Three FSU Athletes Place At Michigan's Len Paddock Invitational

The Ferris State University men's and women's outdoor track and field teams sent selected members to the University of Michigan's Len Paddock Invitational held Friday-Saturday (May 9-10) at UM's Ferry Field in Ann Arbor, Mich.

The Bulldogs had three athletes finish among the top 12 competitors in the non-scoring season-ending meet.

Senior Jessica Berube took eighth place in the 400-meter hurdles as she clocked 1:05.68. Sophomore Sarah Duesing tied for 10th place in the women's high jump with a performance of 5-3.

In the men's competition, freshman Andrew Hayton finished in an 11th place tie in the high jump (6-3.50).

Duesing and senior pole vaulter Adrianne Desenzio both reached provisional qualification marks for the NCAA Division II Championships, but were not among the final national meet entries announced Tuesday (May 13).

Bulldogs Place Fourth At GLIAC Outdoor Championships

The Ferris State University women’s outdoor track and field team placed fourth at the 2003 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Championships held Friday and Saturday (May 2-3) at Saginaw Valley State’s Morley Field in University Center, Mich.

FSU totaled 84 points in the women’s competition, which was won by Grand Valley State with 233.50 points. Hillsdale took second place (154 points) and Ashland finished third (139) in the nine-team field.

Junior Kristyn Buck garnered runner-up accolades in the pole vault (11-00.25) while sophomore Sarah Duesing finished second in the long jump (17-11.50) for the FSU women’s team. Senior Adrianne Desenzio recorded a third-place effort in the long jump (17-4.50) along with a fourth place triple jump finish (33-4). Duesing also tied for sixth place in the high jump (5-00.25).

Junior Rachel Cox took fourth place in the 5,000-meter run (18:09.11), junior Molly Machinski placed fourth in the 100-meter hurdles (15.59) and senior Jessica Berube was fourth in the 400-meter hurdles (1:04.54).

Junior Angela Herzog placed fourth in the 400-meter dash (1:00.26) while freshman Jamie Lyberg took sixth place (1:01.90) and junior Althea Graham finished eighth (1:31.00) in the same event.

Sophomores Crystal Kuzma and Sharon Smith tied for fifth place in the 100-meter dash as both clocked 12.46 seconds. Smith finished fifth in the 200 meters (25.32) while Kuzma placed sixth (25.52).

Freshman Leanna Wolf added a seventh-place performance in the 800-meter run (2:23.97), freshman Crystal Flutur placed eighth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (12:09.32) and freshman Geneva Jones recorded an eighth-place finish in the 1,500-meter run (4:52.05).

Sophomore Michelle Blanch took seventh place in the javelin (99-11.50) and was eighth in the pole vault (10-00.50). Ferris also placed third in the women’s 4x100-meter relay (49.34) and fourth in the 4x400-meter relay (4:07.07).

The Bulldogs are scheduled to take part in the University of Michigan’s Len Paddock Invitational Friday-Saturday, May 9-10, in Ann Arbor, Mich. The meet is slated to begin Friday at 3 p.m. (EDT).

Ferris Claims USTCA Invitational Championship In Final Home Meet

The Ferris State University women's outdoor track and field team placed first in the third annual United States Track Coaches Association (USTCA) Invitational held Saturday (April 26) at FSU's Top Taggart Field in Big Rapids, Mich.

Ferris claimed nine of the 19 women's events en route to scoring 234.5 points. Saginaw Valley State finished second (157.5 points), Aquinas placed third (90) and Lake Superior State was fourth (45).

Sophomore Sharon Smith won two individual events to lead the Bulldog women's team. She finished first in both the 100 (12.46) and 200-meter (25.35) events.

Freshman Jamie Lyberg claimed the 400-meter run (1:01.45), freshman Geneva Jones took the 1,500-meter run (4:58.38) and junior Rachel Cox emerged victorious in the 3,000-meter race (10:41.90).

Other first place finishers for Ferris included junior Althea Graham in the 100 hurdles (14.98), senior Jessica Berube in the 400-meter hurdles (1:05.63) and sophomore Sarah Duesing in the high jump (5-4.50). FSU also won the women's 4x400-meter relay (4:01.63).

In addition to winning nine events, the women's team also tallied 12 runner-up performances. Sophomore Crystal Kuzma and junior Molly Machinski both earned runner-up honors in two events. Kuzma was second in the 100 (12.57) and 200 meters (25.49) while Machinski registered second-place performances in the 100-meter hurdles (15.81) and the 400-meter hurdles (1:06.53).

The Bulldog women's track and field team will take part in the 2003 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Championships May 2-3 at Saginaw Valley State University in University Center, Mich. The meet is slated to begin Friday, May 2, at 3 p.m. (EDT).

Ferris Wins Saginaw Valley State Collegiate Invitational Championship

The Ferris State women’s outdoor track and field team placed first overall at the Saginaw Valley State Collegiate Invitational held Saturday (April 19) at SVSU’s Morley Field in University Center, Mich.

Ferris registered 195 points to edge second-place Saginaw Valley State (133 points) in the women’s field. Athletes from nine different schools took part in the meet.

The Bulldog women’s team won five events and had eight runner-up performances. Junior Althea Graham claimed the 100-meter hurdles (15.31), senior Jessica Berube took first in the 400-meter hurdles (1:06.53) and sophomore Sarah Duesing finished first in the high jump (5-6) while reaching the NCAA-II National Provisional Qualification standard. FSU also won the 4x100-meter relay (49.95) and freshman Crystal Flutur recorded a first-place finish in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (12:40.72).

Junior Molly Machinski was second in both the 100-meter hurdles (16.01) and the 400-meter hurdles (1:06.98) for FSU while senior Adrianne Desenzio attained runner-up honors in the triple jump (35-4.25).

Sophomore Crystal Kuzma placed second in the 100-meter dash (13.04) and was third in the 200 meters (26.95). Sophomore Sharon Smith was third in the 100 meters (13.39) and garnered runner-up accolades in the 200 meters (26.54).

Freshman Leanna Wolf took second place in the 800 meters (2:21.68) while freshman Jenny Irwin placed third (2:22.04) in the same event. Junior Rachel Cox recorded a runner-up finish in the 1,500-meter run (5:01.06) and sophomore Mary Miller finished third in the 3,000-meter run (11:53.10). Junior Kristyn Buck took third-place in the pole vault (10-6).

The Bulldog women also placed second in the 4x400-meter relay (4:10.72).

Ferris State will host the United States Track Coaches Association meet Saturday, April 26, at FSU’s Top Taggart Field in Big Rapids, Mich. The meet is slated to start at 11 a.m. (EDT).

Ferris Claims Seven Events In Annual Bulldog Invitational

The Ferris State women's outdoor track and field team hosted the annual Bulldog Invitational on Saturday (April 12) at FSU's Top Taggart Field in Big Rapids, Mich.

FSU won seven events in the non-scoring competition. The Bulldog women also posted seven runner-up performances in the school's first home meet this season.

Senior Adrianne Desenzio won the women's pole vault while registering a NCAA-II Provisional National Qualification mark (11-3.50) and setting a new meet record. Desenzio also bettered her own school mark while notching her second victory of the outdoor campaign.

Sophomore Crystal Kuzma claimed the 100-meter dash (12.36), junior Rachel Cox emerged victorious in the 5,000 meters (18:26.85) and junior Althea Graham finished first in the 100-meter hurdles (15.13).

Senior Jessica Berube placed first overall in the 400-meter hurdles (1:06.56), sophomore Sarah Duesing won the high jump (5-4) and the Bulldogs claimed the 4x400-meter relay (4:13.53).

Junior Sharon Smith placed second in the 100 meters (12.53), Kuzma attained runner-up honors in the 200 meters (25.55) and freshman Jenny Irwin finished second in the 1,500-meter run (4:56.07). Other runner-up performances for FSU included junior Molly Machinski in the 100-meter hurdles (16.01), sophomore Michelle Blanch in the javelin (87-0), Graham in the long jump (16-10.75) and Desenzio in the triple jump (31-11.50).

Ferris is slated to take part in the Saginaw Valley State Invitational Saturday, April 19, in University Center, Mich. The meet is slated to start at 11 a.m. (EDT).

Saturday's Michigan State Open Cancelled Due To Weather

Ferris State will not take part in this Saturday's (April 5) Michigan State Open in East Lansing, Mich., which has been cancelled due to weather-related conditions. Heavy rains left much of the track surface and field event areas under water with additional rain forecast for the weekend. The meet will not be rescheduled.

FSU will host the annual Bulldog Invitational Saturday, April 12, at Top Taggart Field. The field events are slated to begin at 10:30 a.m. (EDT) with the running events scheduled to start at 11 a.m. (EDT).

Bulldogs Open Outdoor Campaign With Third-Place Showing

The Ferris State women's outdoor track and field team took part in the season-opening Jerry England Invitational held Saturday (March 29) at Indianapolis, Ind.

The Bulldog women registered 22 top-eight performances and 107 total points en route to finishing in a third-place tie with Saginaw Valley State. The meet host, Indianapolis finished first (151 points), St. Joseph's (Ind.) placed second (110) and NCAA-I Butler took fifth (61) in the 19-team field.

Senior Adrianne Desenzio won the pole vault (10-6) and garnered runner-up honors in the triple jump (33-1.75) to lead the women's squad. Freshman Jenny Irwin claimed the 1,500-meter run (4:56.85) championship while freshman Geneva Jones added a runner-up finish in the same event (4:57.59).

Sophomore Crystal Kuzma placed second in the 100 meters (12.43) and was eighth in the long jump (15-1.50) for FSU. Senior Jessica Berube took third place in the 400-meter hurdles (1:06.26), junior Rachel Cox finished fourth in the 5,000 meters (18:44.80) and freshman Jaime Lyberg was fourth in the 400 meters (1:02.25).

In the pole vault, Ferris had four of the top six performers. In addition to Desenzio's title, junior Kristyn Buck tied for second place (10-6), sophomore Michelle Blanch took fifth place (9-6) and sophomore Michele Vanderhyde finished sixth (9-0). Blanch added an eighth-place performance (78-11.50) in the javelin.

Sophomore Sarah Duesing received second-place honors in the high jump (5-2) and finished 13th overall in the long jump (14-7.75). Sophomore Sharon Smith was fifth in both the 100 meters (12.91) and the 200 meters (27.20) while freshman Crystal Flutur garnered a seventh-place effort in the 3,000 meters (10:53.00). Sophomore Mary Miller was seventh in the 5,000-meter run (18:59.66) and Ferris State took second place in the 4x100-meter relay (51.10) along with a fourth-place performance in the 4x400-meter relay (4:10.82).

Freshman Jessica Gladding finished among the top 11 competitors in three weight events. She placed sixth in the shot put (35-9.25), eighth in the discus (106-1) and 11th in the hammer throw (71-10).

Ferris will return to action this Saturday (April 5) at the Michigan State Open in East Lansing, Mich. The meet is slated to start at 9 a.m. (EST).

Ferris Finishes Sixth Overall At GLIAC Indoor Championships

The Ferris State women's indoor track and field team took part in the 2002-03 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships this weekend (Feb. 28-March 1) at Saginaw Valley State's Ryder Center in University Center, Mich.

The Bulldog women's squad placed sixth overall in the eight-team field with 42.5 points. Grand Valley State claimed the women's team title with 214.33 points, Ashland finished second (94.33 points) and Hillsdale tied for third place along with SVSU at 80 points.

Senior Adrianne Desenzio placed third in the triple jump (34-0.75) and fifth in the pole vault (10-8) to lead the Bulldog women's team. Junior Molly Machinski added a third-place performance in the 55-meter hurdles (8.80) for FSU, which compiled 14 top-eight finishes.

Sophomore Crystal Kuzma took sixth in the 55 meters (7.37), eighth in the 200 meters (26.87) and ninth in the long jump (16-1.50). Junior Jennifer Delamater finished seventh in the 200 meters (26.41) and was eighth overall in the long jump (17-0).

In the pole vault, the Bulldogs registered a sixth place finish (10-2) from sophomore Michelle Blanch, a seventh-place performance (10-2) by junior Kristyn Buck and an eighth-place (10-2) showing from sophomore Michele Vanderhyde.

Freshman Leanna Wolf was sixth in the 800 meters (2:17.80), junior Angela Herzog took sixth place in the 400 meters (1:00.88) and junior Rachel Cox placed eighth in the 5,000-meter run (19:02.74).

FSU also finished fourth in the 4x800-meter relay (9:25.82) and was fifth in the 4x400-meter relay (4:04.53).

The NCAA-II Indoor Track & Field Championships will be held March 14-15 at the Reggie Lewis Center in Boston, Mass. Desenizo's season-best pole vault performance (11-0.25), which was recorded at the Grand Valley State Laker Challenge (2/14) in Allendale, Mich., is a provisional national qualification mark. The final meet participation list will be released this Tuesday (March 4).

Bulldogs Win One Event At CMU Jack Skoog Open

The Ferris State women's indoor track and field team won one event and finished second in three others at the non-scoring Jack Skoog Open held at Central Michigan's Jack Skoog Indoor Track last Friday (Feb. 21) in Mount Pleasant, Mich.

Freshman Jenny Irwin claimed the mile run in a time of 5:19.85 to lead FSU. Freshman Crystal Flutur finished second in the mile (5:28.31), sophomore Mary Miller placed second in the 3,000-meter run (10:37.96) and the Bulldogs attained runner-up accolades in the 4x400-meter relay (4:06.44).

Freshman Leanna Wolf was third in the 800 meters (2:20.48), freshman Geneva Jones placed fifth in the 800 meters (2:24.28) and freshman Kathryn Lange clocked 5:41.50 en route to a fifth place performance in the mile run. Junior Rachel Cox finished fifth in the 3,000 meters (10:59.52).

Junior Jennifer Delamater placed third in the 200-meter dash (26.01), was fourth in the 60-meter dash (8.02) and took seventh in the long jump (17-2.75) for Ferris State while sophomore Sharon Smith finished fifth in the 60 meters (8.16) and was sixth in the 200 meters (26.63).

Junior Molly Machinski received fifth place honors in the 60-meter hurdles (9.32) and placed seventh in the 200 meters (27.02). FSU also recorded a fourth place finish in the 4x400-meter relay (4:15.50).

Ferris had three athletes finish among the top 10 in the pole vault as sophomore Michelle Blanch placed sixth (10-0), junior Kristyn Buck was seventh (10-0) and sophomore Michele VanderHyde tied for ninth place (10-0).

FSU will take part in the 2002-03 GLIAC Indoor Track and Field Championships this weekend (Friday, Feb. 28-Saturday, March 1) at Saginaw Valley State's Ryder Center in University Center, Mich.

Bulldogs Record Five Top Eight Finishes At Eastern Michigan Meet

Ferris State sent a limited number of athletes to the Eastern Michigan Track & Field Classic held Saturday (Feb. 15) at EMU's Bob Parks Indoor Track in Ypsilanti, Mich.

The Bulldog women registered four top-eight performances while senior Steve Picucci of the FSU men's indoor track and field team placed fifth in the 5,000-meter run (15:23.26).

In the women's competition, sophomore Crystal Kuzma placed fourth in the 200-meter dash (25.79), junior Jennifer Delamater was sixth in the 200 meters (26.18) and junior Molly Machinski finished eighth (26.67) in the same event. FSU also recorded a third-place performance in the women's 4x400-meter relay (4:06.86).

Ferris will return to action Friday, Feb. 21, at the Central Michigan Jack Skoog Open in Mount Pleasant, Mich. The meet is slated to begin at 3 p.m. (EST).

Ferris Wins Four Events At GVSU Laker Challenge

The Ferris State women’s indoor track and field team took part in the Grand Valley State Mike Lints Laker Challenge on Friday (Feb. 14) at GVSU’s Fieldhouse Arena in Allendale, Mich.

The Bulldog women’s team won four events. Freshman Leanna Wolf emerged victorious in the 400-meter dash (59.97) while senior Adrianne Desenzio claimed the pole vault (11-0.25) and finished in a tie for first place in the triple jump (33-7.50). Desenzio also took eighth place in the long jump (15-11).

In the 3,000-meter run, freshman Jenny Irwin clocked 10:49.63 en route to a first-place performance while junior Rachel Cox finished second (10:51.72) and freshman Crystal Flutur placed fourth (10:57.50). Freshman Geneva Jones was sixth (11:01.20) in the same event.

Sophomore Crystal Kuzma placed second in the 55-meter dash (7.30), sixth in the long jump (16-4) and ninth in the 200 meters (27.27) for FSU. Sophomore Sharon Smith took third in the 200-meter dash (26.66) while junior Angela Herzog was third in the 400-meter dash (1:01.11).

Sophomore Mary Miller placed third in the mile run (5:27.73), junior Molly Machinski registered a third-place 55-meter hurdle performance (8.70) and freshman Kristen Balla was fourth in the mile (5:46.95).

Junior Jennifer Delamater finished fifth in both the 55 meters (7.41) and the long jump (17-0.50) along with a sixth place performance in the 200-meter dash (26.98).

Freshman Jessica Gladding was fifth in the shot put (38-6) and eighth in the weight throw (35-11). Senior Jessica Berube added a sixth-place effort in the 400 meters (1:03.09).

FSU Posts Five Top-Five Finishes At Division II Team Challenge

The Ferris State women's indoor track & field team took part in the Division II Team Challenge last Saturday (Feb. 8) at Saginaw Valley State's Ryder Center in University Center, Mich. The Bulldog women had five top-five performances in the non-scoring meet.

Senior Adrianne Desenzio placed second in the pole vault (10-6) and was seventh in the triple jump (32-11). Junior Rachel Cox finished fourth in the 3,000 meters (10:46.84), sophomore Mary Miller took fourth place in the 5,000 meters (19:21.84) and sophomore Michele VanderHyde placed fifth in the pole vault (10-0).

Ferris also attained runner-up accolades in the 4x800-meter relay (9:41.72) and was eighth in the 4x400-meter relay (4:11.97).

Junior Molly Machinski came in sixth in the 60-meter hurdles (9.56), freshman Leanna Wolf received sixth-place honors in the 800 meters (2:21.49) and freshman Jessica Gladding finished eighth in the shot put (38-4).

Junior Jennifer Delamater was seventh in the 60 meters (8.14), 10th in the long jump (16-10.5) and 11th in the 200 meters (26.69). Freshman Geneva Jones registered a ninth place finish in the mile run (5:25.32) and junior Kristyn Buck took 10th in the pole vault (9-6) as 10 different FSU athletes placed among the top 10 performers in their respective events.

FSU will take part in the Grand Valley State Laker Challenge this Friday (Feb. 14) at GVSU's Fieldhouse Arena in Allendale, Mich. The meet is slated to start at 4 p.m. (EST).

Bulldogs Claim Five Events At Friday Night Series Meet

The Ferris State women’s indoor track and field team won five events at the Lewis (Ill.) Friday Night Series #2 meet on Friday (Jan. 31) in Romeoville, Ill.

In the 1,000-meter run, FSU took the top three spots as freshman Leanna Wolf placed first (3:07.49), freshman Geneva Jones was second (3:10.15) and junior Angela Herzog finished third (3:25.00).

Freshman Jessica Gladding claimed the shot put (38-3.25) in addition to finishing sixth in the weight throw (39-6.75). Junior Molly Machinski won the 200-meter hurdles (30.05) and took fourth place in the 55-meter hurdles (8.95).

FSU also won both the women’s 4x200-meter (1:47.09) and distance medley (12:45.64) relays. Ferris’ second unit took third place in the distance medley (13:23.24) event.

Senior Adrianne Desenzio was second in the pole vault (10-6), sophomore Sharon Smith garnered third-place accolades in the 200 meters (27.45) and senior Jessica Berube placed fourth in the 200-meter hurdles (30.75) for FSU. Desenzio added an eighth-place performance in the triple jump (30-11).

Junior Jennifer Delamater took fourth place in the long jump (16-10.75) and finished fifth in the 55-meter dash (7.54). Sophomore Crystal Kuzma tied for third place in the 55-meter dash (7.45) and placed 10th in the long jump (15-11).

In the pole vault, sophomore Michelle Blanch placed sixth (10-0) while junior Kristyn Buck and sophomore Michelle VanderHyde tied for seventh place (9-6).

Sophomore Mary Miller was fourth in the mile (5:28.75) and freshman Jenny Irwin placed fourth in the 800-meter run (2:24.02).

Ferris will return to action Saturday, Feb. 8, at the Division II Team Challenge in University Center, Mich. The meet, which will be hosted by Saginaw Valley State, is slated to begin at 11 a.m. (EST).

Ferris Wins Three Events At GVSU Laker Open

The Ferris State women’s indoor track and field team took part in the Grand Valley State Laker Open Saturday (Jan. 25) at the GVSU Fieldhouse Arena in Allendale, Mich.

The Bulldogs won three events. Sophomore Crystal Kuzma won the 55-meter dash (7.33), freshman Jenny Irwin emerged victorious in the mile run (5:27.54) and freshman Leanna Wolf claimed the 800-meter run (2:21.66).

Junior Jennifer Delamater placed third in three events including the 55-meter dash (7.35), 200-meter dash (26.54) and the long jump (17-2).

Freshman Geneva Jones finished second (5:32.37) in the mile while junior Molly Machinski attained runner-up accolades in the 55-meter hurdles (8.88) and took fourth place in the 200-meter run (27.76).

Senior Adrianne Desenzio was second in the triple jump (32-5), third in the pole vault (10-6) and fourth in the long jump (15-11).

Freshman Jessica Gladding placed third in the weight throw (40-0) and fifth in the shot put (37-8) for Ferris State. FSU also received fourth-place performances from junior Angela Herzog in the 400 meters (1:01.89), freshman Kathryn Lange in the mile (5:39.40) and freshman Crystal Flutur in the 800-meter run (2:31.05). FSU took third in the women’s 4x400-meter relay (4:19.18).

Ferris State will return to action next Friday (Jan. 31) as the Bulldogs compete in the Lewis (Ill.) Friday Night Series #2 meet at Romeoville, Ill. The meet is slated to begin at 4 p.m. (EST).

Bulldogs Win Six Events At SVSU Cardinal Indoor Open

The Ferris State women’s indoor track and field teams coomplied six first-place finishes in the non-scoring Saginaw Valley State Cardinal Indoor Open held Friday (Jan. 17) at SVSU’s Ryder Center in University Center, Mich.

In the women’s track events, sophomore Crystal Kuzma won the 60-meter dash (8.00), freshman Jenny Irwin took the one mile run (5:25.04) and freshman Leanna Wolf claimed the 800-meter run (2:25.64). Junior Molly Machinski emerged victorious in the 60-meter hurdles (9.66) and sophomore Mary Miller finished first in the 3,000-meter run (10:58.64). The Bulldogs added a first-place field event finish as senior Adrienne Desenzio claimed the pole vault (10-0).

Ferris totaled eight runner-up finishes including Kuzma in the 200 meters (27.20), freshman Geneva Jones in the mile (5:32.66), junior Rachel Cox in the 3,000 meters (11:07.01) and sophomore Michelle VanderHyde in the pole vault (9-6). Junior Jennifer Delamater placed second in both the 60 meters (8.02) and the long jump (16-7.50) while Desenzio claimed runner-up accolades in the triple jump (34-2.50). FSU’s 4 x 400-meter relay team clocked 4:13.74 en route to a second-place performance.

Ferris Records Two First-Place Finishes At SVSU Holiday Open

The Ferris State University women's indoor track and field team recorded two first-place finishes in the 2002-03 season-opening Saginaw Valley State University Holiday Open held Friday (Dec. 6) evening at the Ryder Center in University Center, Mich.

Freshman Jaime Lyberg won 400-meter dash (1:04.12) while senior Adrienne Desenzio placed tied for first in the pole vault (10-6). Desenzio also finished second in the triple jump (30-6.25) and was fourth in the long jump (16-0) while Lyberg took eighth place in the 200-meter dash (28.80).

Junior Molly Machinski clocked 9.75 en route to a third-place 60-meter hurdle finish and added a fifth-place 200-meter dash result (28.03).

Freshman Jessica Gladding was fourth in the shot put (39-4.50), sophomore Michelle Blanch placed sixth in the pole vault (9-0) and sophomore Michelle Vanderhyde finished 11th in the pole vault (8-6).

The next competition for the FSU women's team is Jan. 17, 2003, at the Saginaw Valley State Cardinal Open in University Center, Mich.
