Outdoor Season
May 25
Junior Farrah Sewell gained All-America honors on May 25 after placing fifth overall in the hammer throw at the 2000 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field Championships held on the campus of North Carolina State University in Raleigh, N.C.
Sewell's best performance at the Nationals was a throw of 170-02 in the hammer. The top eight finishers in the event were awarded All-America status. Sewell was also named FSU's "Outstanding Field Award" recipient for the 1999-2000 season.
The Bulldogs, under fourth-year head coach Jeff Kavalunas, are ranked 18th nationally as a team.
May 15
Ferris State took part in the non-scoring Indiana Wesleyan qualifier on May 13. First-place finishers for the Bulldogs were senior Jamie Sollose in the long jump (17-4.25), freshman Kristyn Buck in the pole vault (9-0), junior Farrah Sewell in the hammer throw (167-8.5) and junior Tianna Kirkland in both the shot put (44-5.5) and discus (140-11). Sewell will be competing in the hammer throw at the 19th annual NCAA Division II Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championships from May 25-27 at North Carolina State University in Raleigh, N.C. Sewell automatically qualified for nationals with a second-place performance (180-9) at the GLIAC Championships on May 5.
May 9
Ferris placed fourth with 97.5 points at the GLIAC Championships (May 5). . .Junior Morgan Buckner won the 100-meter hurdles (15.32) while freshman Kristyn Buck captured first in the pole vault with a conference-record leap of 10-0. . .Senior Jamie Sollose placed first in the triple jump (36-9.5) and freshman Jenny Brogger took first in the javelin throw (116-9.5) to round out FSU's championship performances.
May 1
FSU finished fourth with 203 points at the Saginaw Valley "Team Challenge" on April 29. Junior Farrah Sewell placed first in the hammer throw (171-09) while junior Carla Buechler turned in a first-place throw of 123-07 in the javelin. Senior Jamie Sollose captured first place in the long jump (17-6) and was second in the triple jump (34-7). Junior Tianna Kirkland broke her own school record with a third-place finish in the shot put (45-0).
April 24
Junior Carla Buechler placed second in the javelin with a throw of 113-4 at the Indiana State Pacesetter Invitational, April 22. Junior Farrah Sewell was third in the hammer throw (164-9) and fourth in the javelin (110-3) at Indiana State.
April 18
Ferris participated in the non-scoring Saginaw Valley State Invitational, April 14-15. Junior Morgan Bucker clocked a first-place time of 15.33 in the 100-meter hurdles, while senior Kiesha Jones took top honors in the 400-meter dash at 57.91. Junior Pam Preston posted a time of 42:07.30 to win the 10,000-meter run and junior Farrah Sewell turned in a first-place performance in the hammer throw (163-1).
Indoor Season
February 28
Ferris finished fifth at the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Indoor Championships (Feb. 26) at Grand Valley. The Bulldogs tallied 38 points with Grand Valley winning the title with 128 points.
Junior Morgan Buckner took second in the 55-meter hurdles (8.77) and third in the high jump (5-2), while freshman Samantha Masters led three Bulldog pole vaulters with her second place performance (9-0). Freshman Kristyn Buck (8-6) and sophomore Adrianne Desenzio (8-6) finished a respective fourth and fifth in the pole vault.
Sophomore Melissa Ryan placed fourth in the triple jump (33-10) and fifth in the long jump (17-6.25). Junior Michelle Terry was fifth in the mile run (5:19) for the Bulldogs.
FSU's 1600-meter relay team turned in a sixth place finish at 4:33.
February 20
Ferris competed in the Central Michigan University Open on Feb. 18. First place finishes for the Bulldogs included junior MacKenzie Woodring in the 3000 meter run (10:50.87) and sophomore Melissa Ryan in the triple jump (31-9.5). Freshman Kristyn Buck placed second in the pole vault at 9-6.25.
February 14
The Bulldogs competed at the non-scoring Grand Valley State "Laker Challenge" on February 12. Junior Michelle Terry finished first in the mile run (5:19.80) while junior MacKenzie Woodring was second (5:27.23). Junior Morgan Buckner finished second in both the 55-meter hurdles (8.64) and the high jump (5-2).
February 6
The Bulldogs placed fourth with 129 total points at the USTCA Quadrangular, hosted Feb. 4 by Saginaw Valley. Juniors MacKenzie Woodring and Morgan Buckner led the way with respective second place finishes in the 3,000 meter run (10:44.70) and high jump (5-1).
January 31
The Bulldogs competed at the Grand Valley State Invitational on January 28. First place finishers for Ferris were junior MacKenzie Woodring in the 3000 meter run (10:57.72) and junior Cynthia Walls in the 800 meters (2:22.49).
January 24
The Bulldogs competed at the non-scoring Saginaw Valley State Collegiate Invitational on January 21. Junior Cynthia Walls was FSU's top finisher with a fourth place time of 2:22.25 in the 800 meter run, while sophomore Melissa Ryan was fourth in the triple jump at 31-1.75.
January 17
The Bulldogs participated in the Central Michigan Open on Jan. 14. Freshman Samantha Masters was FSU's top finisher with a second-place in the pole vault (8-6).
December 13
The Bulldogs competed at the Saginaw Valley Holiday Classic last weekend. Senior Jamie Sollose placed second in both the long jump (17-1.5) and triple jump (34-2.5) to pace FSU. The Bulldogs will return to action January 14 at Central Michigan University.
