Ferris State Earns Berth In Great Lakes Regional Championship Match
Ferris State moved into the 2003 NCAA Division II Great Lakes Region First and Second Round Men's Tennis Tournament title match by posting a 5-0 victory over West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference champion Shepherd (W.Va.) on Friday (May 2) at the FSU Racquet and Fitness Center in Big Rapids, Mich.
The Bulldogs, who improved to 17-7 overall, claimed all three doubles flights and posted wins in number one and four singles play. The Rams ended the 2002-03 campaign with a 20-3 overall record.
Ferris State, which is ranked 26th in the latest (April 25) Omni Hotels/Intercollegiate Tennis Association Division II National poll, will face Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference rival Wayne State in this Saturday's (May 3) 10 a.m. (EDT) championship match. WSU, which dropped a 5-3 decision to the Bulldogs in last season's regional title match held in Big Rapids, advanced to the finals by virtue of its 5-0 opening-round win versus Missouri-St. Louis.
Saturday's regional champion will earn a berth into the 16-team single elimination national championship field slated for May 8-11 at Sanlando Park in Altamonte Springs, Fla.
