Wayne State Posts Shutout To Advance To Great Lakes Regional Final
Wayne State posted a 5-0 opening-round win over Missouri-St. Louis Friday (May 2) to advance to the championship match in the 2003 NCAA Division II Great Lakes Region First and Second Round Men's Tennis Tournament held at the Ferris State Racquet and Fitness Center in Big Rapids, Mich.
The Warriors swept the three doubles spots and captured singles victories at the number one and four flights to notch the win in a rematch of last season's first-round contest. WSU improved to 26-8 overall with the win while the Rivermen concluded the season with a 16-8 mark.
Wayne State, which is ranked 33rd in the latest (April 25) Omni Hotels/Intercollegiate Tennis Association Division II National poll, will face the winner of Friday's second match between tournament host Ferris State and West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference champion Shepherd (W.Va.) on Saturday (May 3) at 10 a.m. (EDT).
Saturday's regional champion will earn a berth into the 16-team single elimination national championship field slated for May 8-11 at Sanlando Park in Altamonte Springs, Fla.
