Ferris State Women Defeat Grand Valley State In Opening Round

The Ferris State University women's tennis team advanced to the second round of the 2002 NCAA Division II Great Lakes Region Tournament with a 5-0 win over Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) rival Grand Valley State on Friday (May 3) morning at the FSU Racquet and Fitness Center in Big Rapids, Mich.

The Bulldogs, currently 17-8 overall, captured all three doubles matches and won two singles outings to notch the win. FSU will face the winner of this afternoon's 2 p.m. (EDT) contest between Northern Michigan and Michigan Tech in tomorrow's 9 a.m. (EDT) tournament final.

The winner of Saturday morning's championship match will advance to the NCAA Division II National Tournament May 9-12 in Kansas City, Mo. Grand Valley State concluded the 2002 campaign with an 11-7 overall mark.
