Southern Indiana Beats Shepherd (W.Va.) In Great Lakes Regional Play

Southern Indiana swept the doubles round and claimed both completed singles flights to defeat Shepherd (W.Va.) 5-0 Thursday (May 5) in the opening round of the 2005 NCAA Division II Great Lakes Region First and Second Round Men's Tennis Tournament held at Ferris State University's Racquet and Fitness Center in Big Rapids, Mich.

The Screaming Eagles, who are the region's third seed, picked up singles victories at both the numbers one and two spots to ice the win. USI improved to 13-6 overall this campaign while the Rams ended the year with an 18-4 record.

Southern Indiana will face the tournament host and the nation's 35th-ranked squad in Ferris State Friday (May 6) at 2 p.m. (EDT) for the regional title.

Friday's regional champion will earn a berth into the 16-team single elimination national championship field slated for May 11-14 at Sanlando Park in Altamonte Springs, Fla.
