Host Ferris State Moves On In Great Lakes Regional Action
Ferris State won all five completed matches en route to a convincing 5-0 triumph over Wayne State on Thursday (May 5) in the 2005 NCAA Division II Great Lakes Region First and Second Round Women's Tennis Tournament held at FSU's Racquet and Fitness Center in Big Rapids, Mich.
The Bulldogs, who are ranked 18th in the current (April 27) Intercollegiate Tennis Association Division II National Poll, swept the doubles round and sealed the victory with wins in numbers one and three singles play. FSU improved to 16-2 overall this campaign while WSU finished the season at 16-8 overall. Ferris is midst its 15th NCAA Divison II Tournament appearance.
Ferris State will square off against fellow Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) member Grand Valley State on Friday (May 6) at 10 a.m. (EDT) in the regional final.
Friday's regional champion will earn a berth into the 16-team single elimination national championship field slated for May 11-14 at Sanlando Park in Altamonte Springs, Fla.
