Ferris State Defeats Mercyhurst To Reach Regional Final

The Ferris State men's tennis team advanced to the regional finals with a 5-0 win over Mercyhurst Thursday (May 6) in the 2004 NCAA Division II Great Lakes Region First and Second Round Men's Tennis Tournament held at FSU's Racquet and Fitness Center in Big Rapids, Mich.

The 28th-ranked Bulldogs claimed all three doubles flights and won both the numbers one and six singles spots against the Lakers. FSU improved to 16-8 overall this campaign while MC concluded its season with an 11-7 overall mark. The Lakers were making only their second NCAA-II Tournament appearance.

Ferris State, which is midst its 10th NCAA Division II Tournament bid, will face Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) rival Wayne State on Friday (May 7) at 10 a.m. (EDT). The Bulldogs have edged the Warriors in the regional finals each of the last two seasons to date.

Friday's regional champion will earn a berth into the 16-team single elimination national championship field slated for May 12-15 at Sanlando Park in Altamonte Springs, Fla.
