Host Ferris State Moves On In Great Lakes Regional Action

Ferris State won all five completed matches en route to a convincing 5-0 triumph over Shepherd (W.Va.) on Thursday (May 6) in the 2004 NCAA Division II Great Lakes Region First and Second Round Women's Tennis Tournament held at FSU's Racquet and Fitness Center in Big Rapids, Mich.

The Bulldogs, who are ranked 20th in the current (April 29) Intercollegiate Tennis Association Division II National Poll, swept the doubles round and sealed the victory with wins in numbers two and three singles play. FSU improved to 16-7 overall this campaign while Shepherd finished the season at 16-7 overall. Ferris is midst its 14th NCAA Divison II Tournament appearance while the Rams were making their first-ever bid.

Ferris State will square off against fellow Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) member Michigan Tech on Friday (May 7) at 10 a.m. (EDT).

Friday's regional champion will earn a berth into the 16-team single elimination national championship field slated for May 12-15 at Sanlando Park in Altamonte Springs, Fla.
