Sophomore Player Earns League's First Women's Tennis Weekly Award

Ferris State University sophomore Molly Basha (Eau Claire, Wis./Regis) has been named the first recipient of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Women's Tennis Player of the Week Award, which was announced Tuesday (Sept. 21) by the league office.
Basha claimed runner-up recognition at the 2004 Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Great Lakes Regional Championships held last weekend (Sept. 17-19) in Midland, Mich. The 5-7 Basha, who was seeded sixth in the draw, posted a 5-1 singles record and upset defending regional champion and second-seeded Sue Rossano of Northwood 6-3, 3-6, 10-6 in Sunday's semifinals.
Basha, who is presently 10-2 overall this campaign in singles play, also advanced to the second round in doubles competition at the regional event. She presently holds career marks of 22-8 in singles play and 20-5 in doubles action during her two-year Bulldog career.
Last season (2003-04), Basha compiled a 12-6 singles and 13-8 doubles record as she helped guide FSU to the quarterfinals of the NCAA Division II Championships (May 12-15) at Altamonte Springs, Fla.
Ferris State, which is presently both 6-1 overall and in league play this season, will take part in the Bowling Green State Invitational Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 25-26, in Bowling Green, Ohio.
The GLIAC Women's Tennis Athlete of the Week Award is the league's newest weekly award this campaign. The winner is chosen each week by the league's member head coaches.
