April 12: Bulldogs Edged By Northern Michigan In Non-Conference Contest
Despite winning the top three singles flights, the Ferris State women's tennis team dropped a 5-4 non-conference decision to the Northern Michigan Wildcats on Saturday (April 12) at the FSU Racquet and Fitness Center in Big Rapids, Mich.
Ferris, which is ranked 18th nationally in the latest (March 31) Omni Hotels/Intercollegiate Tennis Association Division II National Poll, fell to 15-8 overall with its seventh-consecutive loss. The Bulldogs managed to win only one of three doubles flights before the two Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference rivals split the six singles matches.
"It all came down to the number six singles match and they were too tough," third-year FSU head coach Dave Ramos said.
NMU gained a measure of revenge versus FSU, which had claimed a share of its 18th league title in the last 19 years at the 2002 GLIAC Tournament with a 5-2 title match win over the Wildcats (10/26) at the Midland Tennis Center in Midland, Mich. The two teams shared the league's overall championship as NMU won the conference’s regular-season crown.
Ferris will visit Northwood for its 2002-03 regular-season finale this Tuesday (April 15) beginning at 2 p.m. (EDT) at the Midland Tennis Center.

April 8: Ferris State Falls To Grand Valley State In Non-Conference Home Match
Ferris State lost a 5-4 non-conference women's tennis decision to the Grand Valley State Lakers Tuesday (April 8) at the FSU Racquet and Fitness Center in Big Rapids, Mich.
Ferris, which is ranked 18th nationally in the latest (March 31) Omni Hotels/Intercollegiate Tennis Association Division II National Poll, fell to 15-7 overall with the setback. FSU, which has lost six-straight outings to date, won only one of three doubles flights before the two Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference rivals split the six singles matches.
"We really had our chances to win this one," third-year FSU head coach Dave Ramos said. "Our number three doubles team lost focus after being up 6-3 and our number two doubles team had two overheads for match point."
GVSU's win over Ferris snapped a 21-match Bulldog series winning streak. Prior to Tuesday's tilt, the Lakers had not defeated FSU since registering an 8-1 victory in Big Rapids on Oct. 20, 1980. Ferris still leads the all-time series by a 28-7 margin.
Ferris will host Northern Michigan in a non-league encounter this Saturday (April 12) beginning at 10 a.m. (EDT) at the FSU Racquet and Fitness Center in Big Rapids, Mich.
