May 2: Ferris Falls To Northwood In Great Lakes Regional Final
The Ferris State women's tennis team fell to Northwood by a score of 5-0 Friday (May 2) in the championship match of the 2003 NCAA Division II Great Lakes Regional First and Second Round Tournament at the Midland Community Tennis Center in Midland, Mich.
The Bulldogs were forced to default both the number three doubles and number six singles matches due to injuries. Northwood, which is ranked 16th overall in the latest (April 25) Omni Hotels/Intercollegiate Tennis Association Division II National poll, improved to 18-10 overall and advanced to the 16-team single-elimination national championship field slated for May 8-11 at Sanlando Park in Altamonte Springs, Fla.
Ferris, which made its eighth consecutive regional tournament appearance this campaign, concluded the season with a 16-10 overall record under third-year head coach Dave Ramos. The 28th-ranked Bulldogs also claimed a share of their 18th Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) title in the last 19 years with a 5-2 championship match win over Northern Michigan (10/26) at the 2002 GLIAC Tournament.

May 1: Bulldogs Advance To Great Lakes Regional Championship Match
The Ferris State women's tennis team advanced to the championship match in the 2003 NCAA Division II Great Lakes Regional First and Second Round Tournament with a 5-2 win over Great Lakes Valley Conference champion Indianapolis Thursday (May 1) at the Midland Community Tennis Center in Midland, Mich.
The Bulldogs, who improved to 16-9 overall, won two of three doubles encounters and captured the top three singles flights en route to the victory. Barbora Jilkova, Suzanne Batten and Laura Schaefer all won both their singles and doubles matches for fourth-seeded Ferris State, which snapped an eight-match losing streak. Indianapolis concluded the season with an 18-7 overall record.
FSU, which is ranked 28th overall in the latest (April 25) Omni Hotels/Intercollegiate Tennis Association Division II National poll, will face top-seeded and 16th-ranked Northwood in Friday's (May 2) 10 a.m. (EDT) regional final. The winner of Friday's match will advance into the 16-team single-elimination national championship field slated for May 8-11 at Sanlando Park in Altamonte Springs, Fla.
The Bulldogs, who are making their eighth consecutive regional tournament appearance, have earned three regional tournament championships in the last four years to date and are making their 13th overall tournament bid. FSU has advanced to the NCAA-II Championship round four times, including its last appearance in the 2000-01 campaign.
Ferris, which is coached by third-year head coach Dave Ramos, claimed a share of its 18th league title in the last 19 years at the 2002 GLIAC Women’s Tennis Tournament with a 5-2 championship match win over Northern Michigan (10/26) at the Midland Community Tennis Center. The two teams shared the overall championship as NMU won the conference’s regular-season crown.

April 15: Ferris Drops Regular-Season Finale At Northwood
The Ferris State women's tennis team dropped its 2002-03 regular-season finale to the nationally-ranked Northwood Timberwolves by a 7-0 score Tuesday (April 15) at the Midland Community Tennis Center in Midland, Mich.
Ferris, which is ranked 22nd nationally in the latest (April 11) Omni Hotels/Intercollegiate Tennis Association Division II National Poll, ended the regular-season with a 15-9 overall record. The Bulldogs, who have lost their last eight outings to date, were swept in the six singles flights by 29th-ranked Northwood which improved to 16-10 overall this campaign. The final two doubles flights were not played.
Official parings and opening-round sites for the 2003 NCAA Division II Championships will be released Thursday, April 24. Ferris, which was ranked first in the initial (March 14) NCAA-II Great Lakes Regional poll this spring, is expected to be one of eight regional teams invited to participate in the 64-team national bracket.

April 12: Bulldogs Edged By Northern Michigan In Non-Conference Contest
Despite winning the top three singles flights, the Ferris State women's tennis team dropped a 5-4 non-conference decision to the Northern Michigan Wildcats on Saturday (April 12) at the FSU Racquet and Fitness Center in Big Rapids, Mich.
Ferris, which is ranked 18th nationally in the latest (March 31) Omni Hotels/Intercollegiate Tennis Association Division II National Poll, fell to 15-8 overall with its seventh-consecutive loss. The Bulldogs managed to win only one of three doubles flights before the two Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference rivals split the six singles matches.
"It all came down to the number six singles match and they were too tough," third-year FSU head coach Dave Ramos said.
NMU gained a measure of revenge versus FSU, which had claimed a share of its 18th league title in the last 19 years at the 2002 GLIAC Tournament with a 5-2 title match win over the Wildcats (10/26) at the Midland Tennis Center in Midland, Mich. The two teams shared the league's overall championship as NMU won the conference’s regular-season crown.
Ferris will visit Northwood for its 2002-03 regular-season finale this Tuesday (April 15) beginning at 2 p.m. (EDT) at the Midland Tennis Center.

April 8: Ferris State Falls To Grand Valley State In Non-Conference Home Match
Ferris State lost a 5-4 non-conference women's tennis decision to the Grand Valley State Lakers Tuesday (April 8) at the FSU Racquet and Fitness Center in Big Rapids, Mich.
Ferris, which is ranked 18th nationally in the latest (March 31) Omni Hotels/Intercollegiate Tennis Association Division II National Poll, fell to 15-7 overall with the setback. FSU, which has lost six-straight outings to date, won only one of three doubles flights before the two Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference rivals split the six singles matches.
"We really had our chances to win this one," third-year FSU head coach Dave Ramos said. "Our number three doubles team lost focus after being up 6-3 and our number two doubles team had two overheads for match point."
GVSU's win over Ferris snapped a 21-match Bulldog series winning streak. Prior to Tuesday's tilt, the Lakers had not defeated FSU since registering an 8-1 victory in Big Rapids on Oct. 20, 1980. Ferris still leads the all-time series by a 28-7 margin.
Ferris will host Northern Michigan in a non-league encounter this Saturday (April 12) beginning at 10 a.m. (EDT) at the FSU Racquet and Fitness Center in Big Rapids, Mich.

Ferris, which is ranked 18th nationally in the latest (March 31) Omni Hotels/Intercollegiate Tennis Association Division II National Poll, dropped to 15-6 overall with the setback. FSU, which has lost five-straight outings to date, faced four nationally-ranked teams on its spring trip including seventh-ranked AASU. The Lady Pirates improved to 13-4 overall.
Ferris returns home to face Grand Valley State this Tuesday (April 8) in a 3 p.m. (EDT) non-league contest at the FSU Racquet and Fitness Center in Big Rapids, Mich. The Bulldogs will then host Northern Michigan in a non-conference affair Saturday, April 12, beginning at 10 a.m. (EDT).

April 3: Fourth-Ranked Ouachita Baptist Captures Neutral Site Win Over Bulldogs
Ouachita Baptist (Ark.) won all three doubles flights and the top five singles spots in an 8-1 non-league neutral site contest Thursday (April 3) at Pensacola, Fla.
The Lady Tigers, who are ranked fourth nationally in the latest (March 31) Omni Hotels/Intercollegiate Tennis Association Division II National Poll, remained unbeaten this campaign with a 13-0 overall record. The 18th-ranked Bulldogs fell to 15-5 overall and have now lost four-straight outings to nationally-ranked opponents.
"We played better in doubles play even though the score did not show it," said third-year head coach Dave Ramos. "Rachel Prescott won our only point at number six singles and has been a bright spot on our spring trip."
Ferris concludes its spring trip this Friday (April 4) with a neutral site contest versus seventh-ranked Armstrong Atlantic State (Ga.) in Pensacola. The match is slated to start at 9 a.m. (EST).

April 1: West Florida Defeats Ferris State In Non-Conference Contest
Nationally-Ranked West Florida swept Ferris State in both singles and doubles play while posting a 9-0 non-conference victory Tuesday (April 1) in a battle of two of the nation's top 20 women's tennis programs at Pensacola, Fla.
UWF, which is ranked fifth nationally in the latest (March 31) Omni Hotels/Intercollegiate Tennis Association Division II National Poll, improved to 17-2 overall this campaign and ended a two-match losing skid. The 18th-ranked Bulldogs fell to 15-4 overall with their third-straight loss.
Ferris continues its spring trip with two non-league neutral site encounters this Thursday-Friday (April 3-4) in Pensacola. The Bulldogs will battle fourth-ranked Ouachita Baptist (Ark.) this Thursday and then square off against seventh-ranked Armstrong Atlantic State (Ga.) this Friday. NCAA Division I Troy State (Ala.) captured four singles flights and won the doubles round en route to a 5-2 non-conference win over Ferris State in women's tennis action Monday (March 31) at the Lunsford Tennis Complex in Troy, Ala.

Ferris managed to pick up singles victories from senior Suzanne Batten and junior Rachel Prescott. Oct. 26: FSU Claims GLIAC Tournament Championship With Victory
Ferris State claimed a share of its 18th Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) championship in the last 19 years with a 5-2 win over Northern Michigan on Saturday (Oct. 26) in the final match of the 2002 GLIAC Tournament at the Midland Tennis Center in Midland, Mich.
Ferris, currently 13-1 overall, won three of four completed singles matches and two of three doubles outings. With the win, FSU shares the overall league championship with the Wildcats, who claimed the conference's regular season crown.

Oct. 25: Bulldogs Advance To GLIAC Championship Match
The Ferris State University women's tennis team picked up two opening day victories to advance to the 2002 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) championship match on Friday (Oct. 25) at the Midland Tennis Center in Midland, Mich.
Ferris, currently 12-1 overall, defeated seventh-seeded Michigan Tech by a score of 5-0 in the quarterfinal round and posted a 6-1 win over sixth-seeded Grand Valley State in semifinal round action. The Bulldogs will face top-seeded Northern Michigan in Saturday's (Oct. 26) title match at 10:30 a.m. (EDT). FSU will be attempting to earn its 18th league title in the last 19 years.

Ferris State University junior women's tennis player Barbora Jilkova fell in Sunday's (Oct. 6) semifinal round of singles play at the 2002 Omni Hotels/Intercollegiate Tennis Association Great Lakes Championships held at the Indianapolis Tennis Center in Indianapolis, Ind.
The third-seeded Jilkova lost a 6-1, 6-4 decision versus Northwood sophomore Carina Kaempfer, who became the third player in the nine-year history of the Omni Hotels Great Lakes Region Championship to repeat as the singles champion with a 6-3, 6-1 triumph over 14th-seeded Aijana Otunchieva of Michigan Tech in the final. Kaempfer joined Indianapolis' Pamela Rodriguez (1996, 1997) and Ferris State's Jennifer Garvey (1999, 2000) as repeat champions.
The Bulldog women's tennis team will host Ashland this Friday (Oct. 11) at 3 p.m. (EDT) in FSU's Racquet and Fitness Center at Big Rapids, Mich. Ferris is presently 8-1 overall.

Junior Barbora Jilkova of the Ferris State University women's tennis team advanced to this Sunday's (Oct. 6) semifinal round in singles play with two victories on Saturday (Oct. 5) at the 2002 Omni Hotels/Intercollegiate Tennis Association Great Lakes Championships at the Indianapolis Tennis Center in Indianapolis, Ind.
Jilkova, seeded third overall, defeated Emily Blinzinger of Southern Indiana 6-2, 6-2 and posted a 6-0, 4-6, 6-3 win over Tara Tragesser of Charleston in the quarterfinal round. She is slated to face top-seeded Carina Kaempfer of Northwood in Sunday's semifinal round at 9 a.m. (EDT). Kaempfer dealt Ferris' Suzanne Batten a 6-4, 3-6, 6-2 setback in Saturday's round of 16.
In doubles play, Batten and Jilkova advanced to the semifinal round before dropping an 8-3 decision versus Leila Armin and Natalya Natyshak of Wayne State.
The overall singles and doubles champions earn automatic berths into the 2002 Omni Hotels National Small College Championships, which will take place at the H.E. Butts Tennis Center in Corpus Christi, Texas, from October 17-20.

Sept. 28: Ferris Wins Second-Straight League Outing
Ferris State picked up its second-consecutive Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) women's tennis victory on Saturday (Sept. 28) as the Bulldogs dealt Saginaw Valley State an 8-1 defeat at FSU's Racquet and Fitness Center in Big Rapids, Mich.
FSU captured all three doubles flights and won five of six singles contests en route to the win. SVSU's lone victory came at the number six singles spot where Cassie Jastrzebski scored a 6-2, 6-3 win over Ferris senior Amanda Miller. FSU improved to 8-1 overall with the victory.
The Bulldogs will take part in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association/Omni Hotels Great Lakes Regional Championships next weekend (Oct. 4-6) in Indianapolis, Ind.

The Bulldog women’s tennis team defeated Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) rival
Northwood by a score of 5-4 Tuesday (Sept. 24) at the FSU Racquet and Fitness
Center in Big Rapids, Mich.
Ferris won two of three doubles matches and split the singles round to notch the win. FSU improved to 7-1 both overall and in league action with the win.
“It was a great match,” head coach Dave Ramos said. “Suzanne Batten, a senior, came through to win the match in a third set tiebreaker. She has been a great captain and team leader
for us this season.”
Batten, freshman Laura Schaefer and sophomore Elena Blackman picked up singles victories. Ferris’ number two and three doubles teams also were victorious.
The Bulldogs will host Saginaw Valley State in GLIAC action this Saturday (Sept. 28) at 10 a.m. (EDT).

The Bulldog women’s tennis team split two Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) road
matches this weekend (Sept. 20-21) in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. FSU dealt Michigan Tech an 8-1 loss Friday
at Houghton before dropping an 8-1 decision Saturday versus Northern Michigan
in Marquette.
Ferris, which defeated Lake Superior State last Thursday (Sept. 19) by a score of 8-1 in Sault Ste. Marie,
Mich., won five of six singles matches and swept the three doubles flights
against Michigan Tech. The Bulldogs' lone win at Northern Michigan came in number one singles action, where junior Barbora Jilkova defeated Kris Koopmann 6-4, 6-1.
FSU will return to action this Tuesday (Sept. 24) versus Northwood at the FSU Racquet and Fitness Center
in Big Rapids, Mich. Match time is slated for 3 p.m. (EDT).

victory Thursday (Sept. 19) versus Lake Superior State at Sault Ste. Marie, Mich.
With the win, the Bulldogs improved to 5-0 overall and remained unbeaten in Great Lakes Intercollegiate
Athletic Conference (GLIAC) action. The lone LSSU win came at number three doubles where Tiffany VanBeek and Sarah Geske scored an 8-3 win over FSU’s Elena Blackman and Tessa Miller.
The Bulldogs will face GLIAC foe Michigan Tech this Friday (Sept. 20) at 3 p.m. (EDT) in Houghton, Mich. Ferris

Sept. 15: Ferris Improves To 4-0 Overall With Three Road Wins
The Ferris State University women’s tennis team improved to 4-0 overall with three Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference road wins this past weekend.
Ferris defeated Findlay by a score of 9-0 on Friday (Sept. 13) in Findlay, Ohio, and edged Wayne State 5-4 Saturday (Sept. 14) at the WSU Tennis Courts in Detroit, Mich. The Bulldogs defeated Hillsdale 9-0 in an indoor match Sunday (Sept. 15) at Battle Creek, Mich.
Eight Bulldog players saw action in the win over Findlay, including junior Rachel Prescott and senior Amanda Miller who each picked up their first victories of the season. In Ferris’ triumph at Wayne State, the Bulldogs captured two of three doubles matches and won three of six singles flights.
FSU will return to action this weekend (Thursday, Sept. 19-Saturday, Sept. 21) in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. The Bulldogs will battle Lake Superior State this Thursday in a 2 p.m. (EDT) match and face Michigan Tech this Friday at 3 p.m. (EDT). The Bulldogs will also visit Northern Michigan this Saturday (Sept. 21) for a 10 a.m. (EDT) contest.

Sept. 7: Bulldogs Open Season With Victory At Grand Valley State
The Ferris State University women’s tennis team won its first match of the 2002-03 campaign on Saturday
(Sept. 7) as the Bulldogs defeated rival Grand Valley State 7-2 in a Great
Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) match at Allendale, Mich.
Ferris won five of the six singles matches and captured two of three doubles encounters en route to the
victory. Junior Barbora Jilkova handled GVSU’s Marie Cameron 6-1, 6-2 at the number one singles slot while senior Suzanne Batten was a 6-3, 6-2 winner versus Nikki Fairchild at the number two flight. Senior Sarah Jane Johnston, freshman Laura Schaefer and sophomore Elena Blackman also picked up singles wins.
FSU will return to action next Friday (Sept. 13) at Findlay in a 3 p.m. (EDT) match.
