TIFFANY RHEYNARD PICKS UP GLIAC WEEKLY AWARD LAURELS
Ferris Sophomore Chosen As This Week's Top League Performer
Ferris State University sophomore Tiffany Rheynard (Kalamazoo, Mich./Gull Lake) has been named this season's first recipient of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Women's Tennis Player of the Week Award as announced Tuesday (Sept. 9) by the league office.
The 5-7 Rheynard helped key the Bulldogs' season-opening 6-3 league win over Saginaw Valley State by winning two matches on Saturday (Sept. 6) at the FSU Racquet and Fitness Center in Big Rapids, Mich. Rheynard, who moved up in both singles and doubles play from her spots in the FSU lineup last season, recorded a convincing 6-3, 6-2 triumph at the number three singles flight.
She also teamed up with fellow sophomore Amy Ingle (Battle Creek, Mich./Hastings) to register an 8-6 victory in number one doubles play, which helped the Bulldogs take a 2-1 lead following the doubles portion of the contest. She was one of two Bulldog players to claim both singles and doubles wins in the triumph. Rheynard evened her career mark to 7-7 overall with her singles win against the Cardinals' Danielle Coldren.
"Tiffany moved up a spot in our lineup from last year, but played well and was able to start the season successfully by winning a pair of matches," said second-year FSU head coach Alex Palladino.
As a freshman in 2007, Rheynard closed the year by winning four of her final five completed singles encounters and was 4-4 overall at the number four flight in the lineup.
Ferris State next takes part in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Midwest Regional Championships slated for Sept. 19-21 in Midland, Mich. FSU resumes GLIAC action by visiting Lake Superior State Friday, Sept. 26, for a 1:30 p.m. (EDT) league tilt at Sault Ste. Marie, Mich.
