WORSLEY NAMED GLIAC SOFTBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Melissa Worsley (Midland), a junior catcher on the 2004 Ferris State University softball team, has been selected this week's Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Player of the Week after leading the Diamond Dawgs to a 7-1 record in this past week's action.
Worsley was a model of productivity at the plate as she batted .625 over five games with a team-high tying 10 base hits in 16 official at bats. She also compiled a team-leading nine RBIs, scored six runs and reached base safely 12 times in 18 plate appearances for a .667 on-base percentage. Worsley totaled two walks, three doubles, a triple and her first collegiate home run during the week.
Worsley registered multiple hits in four outings, including a three-hit effort at Findlay (4/4) in game one of a conference doubleheader. The FSU backstop smacked a three-run homer to go with a triple in the Diamond Dawgs' 10-1 sixth-inning triumph over the Oilers. She began the week with two hits apiece in her first three contests -- vs. Aquinas (3/31) and consecutive back-to-back games at Wayne State (4/2).
This season, Worsley is presently batting .321 with 18 base hits in 56 at bats for 18 contests. She also has compiled a team highs in both RBIs (14) and multi RBI games (four) while scoring 10 runs. In 91 career games to date, Worsley has recorded a .257 batting average (73-284) with 32 RBIs and 39 runs scored.
Ferris State currently sports a 9-14-1 overall record, which includes a 4-0 GLIAC mark. The Diamond Dawgs have won eight of their last nine outings and are midst a five-game winning streak. FSU visits Saginaw Valley State this Tuesday (April 6) in a conference twinbill before returning home to begin a 12-game homestand, starting this Thursday (April 8) against Lewis in a non-league two-game set.
