Ferris State University junior pitcher Rachel Chartier (Marquette) has been selected this week's Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Softball Pitcher of the Week as a result of her performance this last week.
Posting a 3-0 mark with a 0.50 earned run average (ERA) in 28 innings, Chartier helped the Diamond Dawgs compile a 5-1 record in last week's action. She allowed three runs (two earned) while walking eight batters and striking out nine.
Chartier tossed consecutive complete game victories against Lake Superior State (4/14) and Mercyhurst (4/17). She threw a five-hitter with two strikeouts in a 10-inning game one triumph versus Mercyhurst (4/17). The right-handed hurler proceeded to hold Gannon (4/18) to six hits with four strikeouts in a seven-inning opening game decision and then picked up her first career save in the nightcap by allowing one hit in two and two-third innings of relief.
This season, Chartier has produced a team and career-best 10-5 pitching mark with a 1.35 earned run average in 119 innings. She has allowed 102 base hits, 43 runs (23 earned), 40 walks and 39 strikeouts in 22 appearances.
Chartier has currently registered an 11-10 career mark to go with a 2.15 earned run average in 30 career outings. She has given up 77 runs (50 earned) with 60 walks and 52 strikeouts in 162.2 career frames.
With her selection, Chartier joins junior catcher Melissa Worsley (Midland) as FSU players to receive conference player of the week kudos this spring. Worsley attained the GLIAC Softball Player of the Week honor two weeks ago (4/12).
Ferris State, which is 17-18-1 overall with a second-place tying 12-4 GLIAC record, visits Northwood this Tuesday (April 20) in a league doubleheader at Midland, Mich.
FSU will host Tiffin (Ohio) this Friday (April 23) and Grand Valley State Saturday (April 24) in a pair of twinbills at the FSU Varsity Softball Field in Big Rapids, Mich. The Diamond Dawgs have presently won 16 of their last 21 contests, including five of their past six.
