The Ferris State softball program will recognize its past before and during this Saturday's home doubleheader by holding the first-ever Alumni Day event.
The Ferris State softball program will hold its first-ever Alumni Day this Saturday (April 24) in conjunction with the Diamond Dawgs' doubleheader against Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) archrival Grand Valley State at the FSU Varsity Softball Field in Big Rapids, Mich.

Prior to the first game, a special tailgate will be held near the softball facility starting at 12 p.m. (EDT) with the twinbill opener to follow at 1 p.m. (EDT). The event will be hosted by the FSU Alumni Association and the Ferris State Athletics Department. The Alumni Day will also feature the introduction on the field of all Diamond Dawg softball alumni in attendance between the doubleheader contests.

"We're excited about having this special event," said FSU Assistant Athletics Director Brian Kegler, who teammed up with Ferris State Alumni Director Jeremy Mishler on the idea. "It's our objective to make this an annual event and recognize all those Ferris State softball alumni for their numerous contributions to this tradition-rich program.

"We hope to continue bringing together the softball student-athletes from the past with those Diamond Dawgs of the future," added Kegler.

During its 32-year history, the Ferris State softball program has made three NCAA Division II Regional Tournament appearances (1982, 1998 and 1999) while claiming a pair of regional tourney titles in both '98 and '99. Furthermore, the Diamond Dawgs placed third at the 1998 NCAA-II National Championship Tournament and turned in a sixth-place showing at the 1999 NCAA-II National Championships.
