Ferris State University junior first baseman Nicki Merchant (Wayland) was named the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference's (GLIAC) Softball Player of the Week for her play this past week as announced Monday (April 14) by the conference office in Bay City, Mich.

Merchant batted .455 with 10 base hits in 22 at bats to go along with a 1.091 slugging percentage (24 total bases) in the Bulldogs' seven games during the week. She also registered a .500 on-base percentage and posted a .981 fielding percentage.

Merchant totaled three multi-hit game performances, highlighted by a three-hit effort against Wisconsin-Parkside at last weekend's (April 12-13) Great Lakes Region Showdown in Battle Creek, Mich. In the contest, she belted two home runs (solo and two-run homer) while driving in three runs. Earlier in the day (April 12), Merchant went two-for-two at the plate versus St. Joseph's (Ind.) with a double, home run, three RBIs and two runs scored.

She presently ranks in a third-place tie among Ferris' all-time home runs leaders with eight career roundtrippers, including a team and personal season-best six this campaign.
