The seventh-ranked Ferris State softball team scored twice in the sixth inning, but couldn't overcome a three-run deficit in suffering a 3-2 loss to Concordia (Minn.) in Saturday's (March 14) action at the Florida Rebel Spring Tournament in Kissimmee, Fla.

Concordia scored twice in the bottom of the first inning and added a single run in the fifth to claim a 3-0 lead. Ferris State was able to narrow the gap in the top of the sixth to 3-2 as the Bulldogs strung together a pair of runs on three hits in the frame. Senior outfielder Holly Bruntjens (Gladstone) drove in FSU's first run on a fielder's choice to score senior catcher Krystle Bailey (Wyoming/Rogers). The next batter, junior outfielder Kayle Stevenson (Holland/West Ottawa) followed with a one-out RBI double to right centerfield as junior designated player Rhea Flores (Dearborn Heights/Southgate Anderson) crossed home plate with the Bulldogs' second run. However, Concordia pitcher Stephanie Schmikla was able to get the inning's final two outs as the Golden Bears held on for the one-run decision.

Ferris State totaled six base hits in the game as six different Bulldogs posted a hit apiece. FSU left seven runner on base while Concordia stranded six.

Senior pitcher Sarah Mueller (Santa Clarita, Calif./Valencia), whose record dropped to 4-1 this spring, took the loss for Ferris State as gave up five hits and three runs (one earned) while fanning two in six innings of action.

The loss represented only the second one for FSU this spring as the Bulldogs' overall record dipped to 11-2.
