The nationally eighth-ranked Ferris State University softball team's scheduled Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) road doubleheader at archrival Grand Valley State this afternoon (April 14) has been postponed as a result of expected weather conditions in the Allendale, Mich., area.
The league twinbill has been moved back one day and will now be played at the GVSU Softball Field on Wednesday (April 15) with the first game slated to start at 3:30 p.m. (EDT) followed by the nightcap around 5:30 p.m. (EDT).
While Tuesday's afternoon forecast includes rain showers throughout the afternoon, partially sunny skies and higher temperatures are expected for Wednesday afternoon.
Ferris State, which is coached by 12th-year head coach Keri Becker, is currently 26-4 overall this season and 12-2 in the GLIAC standings.
FSU most recently concluded a productive week as the Bulldogs won five of their six GLIAC contests, which included a pair of home doubleheader sweeps over Findlay and Hillsdale this past weekend (April 10-11). Ferris State, which presently ranks first in the NCAA Division II Midwest Regional Rankings, has now won nine of its last 10 outings and 15 of its last 17 encounters to date.
The Bulldogs will enter Wednesday's twinbill ranked eighth in the nation according to the latest (April 8) National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Division II Top 25 Poll. GVSU is ranked eighth in the region and owns a current 30-9 overall record along with a 10-4 mark in league action.
Earlier this season (March 30), the Bulldogs opened GLIAC play by sweeping the Lakers in a doubleheader at the FSU Softball Field in Big Rapids. Ferris won game one with a 3-2 victory in 11 innings and prevailed by a 6-1 count in the second game.
Following Wednesday's outing at GVSU, the Bulldogs are slated to continue their league road swing by traveling to Ohio for a pair of doubleheaders this weekend. FSU visits Tiffin on Saturday (April 18) for two games starting at 1 p.m. (EDT) and will square off against Ashland on Sunday (April 19) with the first pitch in game one set for 12 p.m. (EDT).
