|Rhea Flores is hitting for a team-leading .359 average and has posted at least a base hit in 11 games to date this spring.
Ferris State's 12-2 record this season represents the Bulldogs' best start in the program's 37-year history. FSU, which began the 2009 campaign with a nine-game winning streak, compiled a 6-8 mark in its initial 14 appearances a season ago.
Ferris State is listed seventh in the latest (March 11) National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Division II Top 25 Poll as the Bulldogs received 288 points. FSU began the 2009 campaign ranked sixth in the NFCA's preseason poll and was eighth in the March 4th national coaches poll.
Senior pitcher Sarah Mueller's (Santa Clarita, Calif./Valencia) 10 strikeouts in consecutive appearances versus Upper Iowa (3/12) and Minnesota Duluth (3/13) at the Florida Rebel Spring Tournament in Kissimmee, Fla., matched a career single-season high. Mueller fanned 10 batters in four innings of work in an 8-0 non-conference win against Aquinas in the 2007 season (4/18).
Junior designated player Rhea Flores (Dearborn Heights/Southgate Anderson) has hit safely in 10 of her 11 outings this season and is midst a current four-game (3/13-14) with a hit apiece in those four encounters. Flores, who's batting a team-leading .359 average with a squad second-most 14 hits in 39 at bats this spring, has accumulated three multiple-hit game performances this season to date.
Junior second baseman Amanda Harrington (St. Joseph/Stevensville-Lakeshore) is one base hit shy of registering her 100th career hit. The 2008 All-GLIAC Second-Team performer has amassed 99 hits in 330 official plate appearances in 110 contests. She totaled a career season-high 49 hits in 51 games last season.
Sarah Mueller is four victories shy of moving into a second-place tie among FSU's pitching career wins leaders. Mueller, who has a 44-28 career mark in 75 appearances, trails Niki Moeggenborg (1994-97; 48 career wins) for second place.
The Bulldogs have outscored their opponent a combined 32-10 in the first four innings of a contest, which includes a 14-4 differential in the fourth inning alone. FSU has presently generated 64.0% (32-50) of its scoring production in the initial four frames this campaign.
