FERRIS STATE SOFTBALL APPEARS EIGHTH IN NFCA DIVISION II POLL

The Bulldogs appear eighth place in this week's (April 8) NFCA Division II Top 25 Poll with 285 points.

The 2009 Ferris State University softball team appears eighth place in the latest National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Division II Top 25 Poll, which was released this Wednesday (April 8).

The Bulldogs compiled 285 points in this week's poll after ranking seventh a week ago with a 274-points total.

Ferris State, which is directed by 12th-year head coach Keri Becker, trails Valdosta (Ga.) State by nine points for seventh place and is 14 points ahead of eighth-place Kutztown (Pa.) in the national rankings poll. Alabama-Huntsville now occupies the top-place position with 395 points and 12 first-place votes. Angelo State (Texas) was previously first since the first 2009 regular-season poll and is presently second with 387 points to go with four first-place votes.

The Bulldogs are joined in the national poll by fellow Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC)-member schools, Wayne State and Saginaw Valley State. Wayne State ranks 20th with 100 points while Saginaw Valley State is listed among others receiving votes with 35 points.

The NFCA Division II Top 25 Poll is voted on by 16 NCAA Division II head coaches with two representing each of the eight NCAA regions.

Ferris State, which is presently 21-3 overall and 7-1 in GLIAC action this season, will play a six-game conference homestand this week at the FSU Softball Field in Big Rapids, Mich. The Bulldogs begin play on the diamond this Wednesday (April 8) with a twinbill against the Northwood Timberwolves, starting at 3:30 p.m. (EDT). Ferris State then entertains the Findlay Oilers this Friday (April 10) in a two-game set, beginning at 3:30 p.m. (EDT). FSU then concludes the week's action this Saturday (April 11) versus the Hillsdale Chargers in a doubleheader. Game one is scheduled to get underway at 1 p.m. (EDT).
