SOFTBALL IS SIXTH IN NATIONAL RANKINGS FOR SECOND STRAIGHT TIME

Ferris State maintained its sixth-place national ranking for second straight week as Bulldogs have aleady surpassed the 30-win season total this spring.

The Ferris State University softball team, which is presently off to its best start ever in the program's 37-year history, is listed sixth in the nation for the second consecutive week in the recently released National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Division II Top 25 Poll. The results of the ninth poll were issued this Wednesday (April 22).

Ferris State earned 306 points in the latest poll, which was eight points behind fifth-place Angelo State's (Texas) 314 points and eight points ahead of seventh-place Valdosta (Ga.) State as the Blazers amassed 298 points.

Alabama-Huntsville continued to occupy the top placing with nine first-place votes and 390 points. North Georgia received 382 points and five first-place votes while Lock Haven and Southeastern Oklahoma garnered the two remaining first-place votes. Lock Haven compiled 365 points while Southeastern Oklahoma posted a 351-points total.

Accompanying Ferris State in the top 25 poll were two other Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) teams in Wayne State and Saginaw Valley State. Wayne State is presently ranked 19th nationally as the Warriors totaled 125 points while Saginaw Valley State's 51 points earned the Cardinals the 25th-place position.

The NFCA Division II Top 25 Poll is voted on by 16 NCAA Division II head coaches with two representing each of the eight NCAA regions.

Ferris State is currently 32-6 overall with an 18-4 conference mark this season under the guidance of 12th-year head coach Keri Becker. The Bulldogs have presently won 11 of their last 13 outings, which includes four victories in the past five decisions.

The Crimson and Gold will wrap up its regular season this weekend (April 25-26) with a pair of GLIAC doubleheaders versus Saginaw Valley State and Wayne State at the FSU Softball Field in Big Rapids, Mich. Ferris takes on Saginaw Valley State this Saturday (April 25), starting at 1 p.m. (EDT) and then squares off against Wayne State this Sunday (April 26) in a regular-season finale series. The first game is scheduled to get underway at 12 p.m. (EDT).
