SOFTBALL LISTED SEVENTH IN LATEST NFCA NATIONAL RANKINGS

Amanda Harrington and the Bulldogs are currently ranked seventh nationally in the March 11 NFCA Division II Top 25 Poll.

The 2009 Ferris State University softball team is listed seventh in the latest (March 11) National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Division II Top 25 Poll.

The Bulldogs received 288 points and trailed sixth-place Winona (Minn.) State by two points. Angelo State (Texas) maintained its number one ranking with 393 points and 13 first-place votes. Alabama-Huntsville ranked second with 352 points to go with three first-place votes. Rounding out the top five are defending national champion Humboldt (Calif) State at fourth while North Georgia occupies the fifth-place position.

The NFCA Division II Top 25 Poll is voted on by 16 NCAA Division II head coaches with two representing each of the eight NCAA regions.

Ferris State, which is directed by 12th-year head coach Keri Becker, was ranked sixth in the NFCA's preseason poll before dropping to eighth place in the March 4th poll.

The Bulldogs have started out this season with a current 11-1 overall record. FSU wraps up action at the Florida Rebel Spring Tournament this Saturday (March 14) with a non-league contests against Concordia (Minn.) and Dowling (N.Y.).

Ferris' 2009 season home opener is slated for March 29 versus Grand Valley State at the FSU Varsity Softball Field in Big Rapids, Mich. The doubleheader also will represent the Bulldogs' initial two Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) outings.
