Ferris State head coach Keri Becker has presently directed the Bulldogs to a second-place regional ranking.

The nationally sixth-ranked Ferris State University softball team is second in the latest NCAA Division II Softball Midwest Region Rankings, which were released Wednesday (April 29) by the NCAA-II Softball Committee.

The Bulldogs, who were also ranked second in the previous poll (April 22), have compiled a 30-6 overall division II record while producing a 25-6 Division II in-region mark. The only team which FSU trails is Ashland, which is 32-10 overall and 30-6 in the region.

Comprising the top five along with Ashland and Ferris State are Wayne State (third), Saginaw Valley State (fourth), and Indianapolis (fifth) in the 10-team regional rankings.

The top 10 teams in each eight regions were listed in rank order with season records as of April 27.

Ferris State, under 12th-year head coach Keri Becker, began the 2009 campaign by occupying the top place for four consecutive weeks.

On a national scale, Ferris State is currently ranked sixth in the most recent (April 29) National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Division II Top 25 Poll for the third straight week.

The Bulldogs, who are 32-6 overall and posted a second-place tying 18-4 ledger in the GLIAC this spring, open postseason play this weekend (May 1-3) at the 2009 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Softball Championship Tournament in Midland, Mich. FSU takes on Northwood this Friday (May 1) in opening-round action of the double-elimination tournament.
