2008 NCAA DIVISION II TOURNAMENT NOTES
Ferris State finished tied for fifth place in the final 2008 NCAA Division II Softball Championships with a 1-2 record. Ferris gained a share of fifth with Francis Marion (S.C.), who the Bulldogs defeated 2-0 in the tourney's opening-round play.
The 2008 NCAA-II Softball Championships represented the Bulldogs' third-ever national tournament appearance in the program's history.
FSU claimed its third NCAA Division II Great Lakes Regional Championship title with a 1-0 victory at defending 2007 NCAA-II National Champion and regional top-seeded Southern Illinois-Edwardsville.
Ferris State received a NCAA-II Tournament berth for the sixth time in school history and for the second season in a row.
Pitcher-outfielders Holly Bruntjens and Sarah Mueller were both named to the NCAA-II Great Lakes Regional All-Tournament Team with Bruntjens being selected as the tournament's Most Outstanding Player.
Ferris State didn't allow a single run in the first 48 innings of NCAA-II Tournament action before St. Edward's (Texas) scored a run in the sixth inning in its 1-0 victory over the Bulldogs at the NCAA-II Championships (May 15).
The FSU coaching staff of head coach Keri Becker along with assistant coaches Lesa Bickley and Chad Haberland were selected as the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) NCAA Division II Great Lakes Region Coaching Staff of the Year.
Ferris State's 35 victories for the 2008 season represented the program's highest single-season wins total since 1999 as the Bulldogs have won at least 30 games in a campaign eight times.
