Ferris State Player Hits For A .722 Average In Last Weekend's Action

Ferris State University sophomore outfielder-pitcher Sarah Mueller (Santa Clarita, Calif./Valencia) has been selected as this week's (March 27) Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Softball Player of the Week as announced by the conference office.

Ferris State sophomore Sarah Mueller was named the GLIAC Player of the Week on Wednesday for her offensive performance at the Wayne State Invitational.

Mueller helped lead the Bulldogs to a 4-1 record at last weekend's (March 24-25) Wayne State Invitational in Detroit, Mich., and an appearance in the tourney's championship game. For his efforts, she was one of two Ferris State players named to the 2007 WSU Invitational All-Tournament Team.

In the five WSU Invitational contests, Mueller led Ferris State with a .722 batting average (13-18) and registered at least one base hit in every game. She turned in a five-for-five hitting performance with two RBIs and three runs scored in the Bulldogs' 12-5 victory over Findlay last Saturday (March 24). Mueller then went two-of-three at the plate with a RBI versus host Wayne State in the final game of last Saturday's opening-round tourney play. She also pitched a complete-game one-hitter and notched two strikeouts in the 4-0 decision over the Warriors.

Mueller came back in last Sunday's (March 25) final-round action by producing three hits in as many official plate appearances against Findlay. She totaled two doubles and a solo home run while scoring three times and knocking in three runs in a 15-0 five-inning win versus the Oilers. In the championship game against Wayne State, Mueller collected two hits in four at bats and had two RBIs as the Bulldogs had their nine-game winning streak snapped with a 5-4 loss in eight innings.

Along hitting for a .722 average, Mueller accumulated eight RBIs and scored eight runs. She also posted five extra-base hits and finished the tournament with a 1.167 slugging percentage and a .722 on-base percentage.

This season in 21 contests, Mueller is batting .343 with 24 hits in 70 at bats. She has 15 RBIs, seven doubles, one triple, one home run and scored 17 runs. in the pitching circle, Mueller has a 2-4 record with a 2.48 earned run average in 36.2 innings.

Ferris State, which is presently 12-9 overall and 0-2 in the GLIAC, returns to the diamond this Sunday (April 1) for its 2007 season home opener against the Lake Superior State Lakers at the FSU Varsity Softball Field in Big Rapids, Mich. Game one of the conference doubleheader is set for 1 p.m. (EDT).
