Ferris State split six outings this past week. The Bulldogs swept Cornerstone in a non-league doubleheader last Wednesday (March 29) in Grand Rapids, Mich., and split a league twinbill with Saginaw Valley State Sunday (April 2) in University Center, Mich. Ferris dropped two games in its league opener at Northwood Saturday (April 1) as the Bulldogs fell by a single run in the first game before losing a 7-5 nine-inning decision in the nightcap.
FSU has presently won 10 of its last 16 outings to date this campaign. The Bulldogs have netted eight runs or more in seven outings this season.
Senior outfielder Emily McLean (Rogers City) has totaled a team-leading 11 multi-hit games this season, which includes three four-hit single-game performances. McLean hit two home runs in the second game of FSU's sweep over Cornerstone last Wednesday.
Emily McLean's 151 career base hits presently ranks 10th on Ferris State's all-time hitting leaders list. She also is ninth among the program's all-time RBI leaders with 80 career RBI's.
Emily McLean tallied 11 hits, 10 runs batted in and scored six times in Ferris' six outings last week. The 5-5 McLean posted a .500 batting average in 22 appearances at the plate while hitting two doubles, one triple and three home runs. McLean also drew two walks and stole a base besides recording a 1.091 slugging percentage and a .542 on base figure.
Ferris has compiled as many hits as its opponent or more in six of its last nine encounters to date this season.
Ferris State freshman pitcher Sarah Mueller (Santa Clarita, Calif./Valencia) recorded a 2-1 mark on the mound in three appearances last week as she gave up only three runs on 16 hits in 20 and two-thirds innings of action. Mueller tallied a 1.02 earned run average while notching two complete game performances.
Junior first baseman Laura Crower (Midland) currently has 82 career hits and is 18 shy of recording her 100th career hit.
Senior pitcher Carissa Quider (Gladwin/Pinconning) has moved into 18th place on FSU's all-time pitching victories leaders list. Quider has registered a career 16-11 mark in 61 appearances, including a squad-best 5-1 mark to date this campaign.
FSU will visit Wayne State Wednesday, April 5, for a 3 p.m. (EDT) non-conference doubleheader in Detroit, Mich. The Bulldogs' first home outing will be Saturday, April 8, versus West Michigan rival Grand Valley State in a 1 p.m. (EST) league doubleheader at the FSU Varsity Softball Field in Big Rapids, Mich.
Six home dates are included on FSU's 2006 schedule, including five conference matchups.
