Senior outfielder Emily McLean garnered All-GLIAC First-Team recognition for the second straight season.
Ferris State University softball team members Emily McLean (Rogers City), Lindsay Riskovitch (Reese), Jessica Jaroniewski (Millington), and Carissa Quider (Gladwin/Pinconning) were named to the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference's (GLIAC) all-league teams Thursday (May 4) evening as announced by the conference office.

McLean, the 2005 GLIAC Player of the Year, was a repeat first-team selection while Riskovitch achieved second-team honors. Jaroniewski and Quider were named to the honorable mention team. The league's head coaches voted on the honors.

Gannon's Joanna Fergus was chosen as the GLIAC's Player of the Year while freshman of the year accolades went to Ashley Evans of Ashland. The recipient of the "Michael T. Corbett" GLIAC Coach of the Year was Wayne State's Gary Bryce.

McLean, a senior outfielder, batted a career-best and team-high .399 this season with 71 base hits in 178 at bats over a 52-game span. The two-time (2005-06) first-team All-GLIAC performer posted team bests in hits, at bats, RBIs (42), home runs (seven), doubles (19), triples (four), runs scored (32), total bases (119), and slugging percentage (.669). Her 19 second-base hits represented a FSU single-season record. In the field, the leftfielder posted a .978 fielding percentage with 39 putouts and six assists. McLean lead Ferris with 21 multiple-hit games and 10 multi-RBI contests this spring. She paced the league in total bases (119) for all games this season and tied for first-place honors in base hits. McLean ranked second in batting average, slugging percentage, on-base percentage, RBIs and doubles among the GLIAC's hitting leaders.

McLean is listed among Ferris' all-time leaders in eight career categories and five single-season departments. The 2004 All-GLIAC Second-Team pick is presently listed second among Ferris' career leaders in batting average (.355) and home runs (19). She amassed 55 multiple-hit outings in 161 career contests.

A senior second baseman, Riskovitch hit for a team second-best and career-high .319 average (53-for-166) to go with one homer and 25 RBIs in 52 outings. She also belted 11 doubles, one triple, scored 31 runs, and had a .416 slugging percentage. The infielder registered a .960 fielding percentage with 114 putouts and 101 assists.

Lindsay Riskovitch
Senior second baseman Lindsay Riskovitch picked up all-conference second-team kudos.
Jaroniewski finished this spring by hitting .248 with 36 hits in 145 official plate appearances, both personal career bests. The senior outfielder scored 28 runs while notching one triple and a career-high 10 RBIs this year. She shared top team honors with five stolen bases and paced the Bulldogs with a career-leading 16 sacrifice hits. In the field, Jaroniewski had a .933 fielding percentage with 49 putouts and seven assists.

Quider, a senior pitcher, finished this season with a career-best 8-1 record in 22 appearances. She set career highs in earned run average (2.25), innings pitched (84.0), and strikeouts (22). The Ferris hurler tossed five complete games and had three shutouts in 11 games as a starter while earning one save in a relief performance. At the plate, Quider batted .273 with three hits in 11 at bats to go with four RBIs and two runs scored.

Ferris State concluded its 2006 season with a 26-26-0 overall record, which included a 10-10-0 GLIAC mark. The campaign represented the Bulldogs' 34th season of varsity competition.
