Ferris State Women's Soccer Notes

The Ferris State University women's soccer team sent its 2005 senior class out in style with a 2-0 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) triumph Sunday (Oct. 30) over visiting Saginaw Valley State in the regular-season home finale at the FSU Varsity Soccer Field in Big Rapids, Mich.
The annual Senior Day contest was the final home tilt for the senior class consisting of midfielders Kristin Aukeman (Hudsonville/Unity Christian), Britta Dahlberg (Port Huron/Northern), Jen Gaylor (Roscommon) and Andrea Moma (Middleville/Wayland Union) along with forwards Lisa O'Brian (Kalamazoo/Loy Norrix) and Lindsey Pawloski (Royal Oak/Kimball). All six were honored prior to the event.
The Bulldogs have presently won four of their last five outings to date this year. Sunday's victory was also Ferris' fifth consecutive home triumph this season. Ferris State has presently won 10 of its last 13 outings overall this campaign.
FSU is currently 11-6 overall and 5-2 in conference play this campaign. The 11 victories this season currently is tied for the program's most wins ever. FSU also tallied 11 wins (11-5-1) in 2003.
FSU is currently ranked ninth in the latest (Oct. 25) National Soccer Coaches Association of America/adidas Great Lakes Regional Rankings. FSU is one of five Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) schools among the top 10. Grand Valley State is second, Ashland sixth, Mercyhurst seventh and SVSU 10th in the current poll.
Ten of FSU's last 12 outings have been decided by two goals or less. Seven of Ferris' 17 matches this year have resulted in a 2-1 final score with Ferris claiming three of those victories.
Andrea Moma and Kristin Aukeman have both played in 73 career contests, which represents the highest figure in school history and surpasses Kristin Bator's (2000-03) previous school-best total of 71 career appearances. Moma has started a school career-high 70 contests.
The Bulldogs have presently won five of their last six overtime contests dating back to last campaign. FSU was 3-0-1 in extra period action during the 2004 season and is 2-1 to date in overtime contests this year.
Sophomore midfielder Kristie Smilanich's (Kalamazoo/Christian) nine assists to date this year currently ranks as the program's second-highest single season assists figure and is three shy of matching Emily Rogers' school-best 12 assists set in 2003.
Junior goalkeeper Carla Gilbertson (Waunakee, Wis.) presently has 253 career saves and needs 59 more to match Alana Dombrowski's (2000-03) school-record total of 312 career saves. Her 25 victories (25-18-1) to date in net represent the most wins for a goalkeeper in FSU history.
Sophomore forward Heather O'Keefe (Ada/Forest Hills Central) has notched at least one point in three of her last five outings this campaign. She has presently scored a goal in two consecutive contests.
Jen Gaylor and Lindsey Pawloski has a team-leading 10 goals to date this year, which currently ranks tied for fifth place on the program's single-season goal scoring chart.
Ferris State has totaled 36 goals and only given up 19 goals in 17 outings to date this year. The Bulldogs have also currently outshot their opponents 319-199 this season. Ferris has allowed only one goal or less in 10 of its last 13 contests this season.
Lindsey Pawloski has tallied at least one point in seven of her last 11 appearances this season. Pawloski's 21 total points this year (9-3--21) ranks as the squad's seventh-best single-season points production to date.
Lisa O'Brian and Lindsey Pawloski both presently are tied for the program's second-highest all-time points figure with 59 career points. Both players have registered 24 goals and 11 assists in their careers and trail Emily Rogers' school-record 119 points (45-29--119).
Third-year Ferris head coach Melissa Lalonde became the program's all-time winningest coach with FSU's 3-1 non-league win at Charleston (W.Va.) on Sept. 11. She has a current 31-19-2 (.615) mark at the Bulldog helm.
Ferris has totaled more shots than its opponent in 12 of 17 contests this campaign, including eight of the last nine overall. FSU has registered 20 or more shots in nine matches this season. The Bulldogs have outscored their opponents 13-4 over the course of the last five outings.
FSU's 2005 squad features five of the program's top six career scoring leaders in Lisa O'Brian (T2nd-59 points), Lindsey Pawloski (T2nd-59), Jen Gaylor (4th-47), Andrea Moma (5th-37) and Kristie Smilanich (6th-27).
Carla Gilbertson's victory in net versus SVSU allowed her to match her school single-season mark of nine victories (9-8-1) set in 2004. Gilbertson is currently 9-6 overall to date this season. She also holds the school's third-best seasonal effort with a 7-4 mark in 2003.
Ferris' 101 total points this season on 36 goals and 29 assists is the program' second-best single-season total in history to date. FSU tallied a program-best 116 total points on 40 goals and 36 assists in 2003. The 29 assists is presently the second-most in a season while the 36 goals also ranks second to date.
Ferris will visit league archrival Grand Valley State Saturday, Nov. 5, for its regular-season finale beginning at 1 p.m. (EST) in Allendale, Mich.
Ferris fell to 3-3 all-time versus Grand Valley State after last season's (11/6/04) 3-0 season-ending home loss to the Lakers. GVSU has won each of the last two meetings. FSU presently holds a 2-4 all-time mark in its final regular-season contest of the year entering Saturday's showdown.
Both Grand Valley State and Ashland currently lead the GLIAC with 6-1 league marks heading into the final week of regular-season action. SVSU is third overall (6-2) with the Bulldogs a half-game behind (5-2) the Cardinals. Saginaw Valley State has completed its conference slate. Saturday's match between FSU & GVSU is the only remaining regular-season match for both teams while Ashland closes the season by hosting Findlay Saturday (Nov. 5).
