FERRIS' JEN GAYLOR CLAIMS GLIAC WEEKLY WOMEN'S SOCCER HONOR
Senior Midfielder Honored As League's Player Of The Week
Senior midfielder Jen Gaylor (Roscommon) of the 2005 Ferris State women's soccer team has been named the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Player of the Week in an announcement made today (Oct. 10) by the league office.
The 5-9 Gaylor tallied her second career hat trick in last Friday's (Oct. 7) 4-1 league home triumph over Gannon at the FSU Varsity Soccer Field in Big Rapids, Mich. Gaylor notched three goals, including the game-winner and two markers in the initial half, as Ferris defeated the Knights. She then totaled seven shots but did not score in FSU's 3-1 conference home win over Mercyhurst Sunday (Oct. 9).
Gaylor also previously scored three goals in a single contest against Aquinas in 2001 (9/12) and her performance versus Gannon was one shy of matching former teammate Emily Rogers' school-record total of four goals in a match set against Concordia (Mich.) in 2001 (9/26).
Gaylor had 13 shots, including five shots on goal, as FSU posted a 2-0 mark last weekend. She has tallied a team and personal career-high nine goals to date this campaign. Her nine goals currently represents the program's seventh-highest single-season goal scoring figure.
A 2003 All-GLIAC Second Team honoree, Gaylor presently is listed fourth among the program's all-time scoring leaders with 45 career points on 19 goals and seven assists in 69 career outings. Gaylor's 19 career markers currently places her fourth on the school's career goal-scoring chart. Her recognition this week represents the first time a FSU player has received the conference's weekly honor since Rogers earned the distinction in 2003 (Oct. 7).
Ferris State, which is currently 9-5 overall and 3-1 in conference play this campaign, has presently won eight of its last 10 outings this season under third-year head coach Melissa Lalonde.
The Bulldogs will visit Ashland Saturday, Oct. 15, for a 1 p.m. (EDT) league outing in Ashland, Ohio. Ferris then will face conference foe Findlay Sunday, Oct. 16, beginning at 12 p.m. (EDT) in Findlay, Ohio.
