FSU WOMEN’S SOCCER ADDS ANOTHER TALENTED RECRUIT
Holt High School’s Anslee Stuber-Powell Is Bulldogs’ Latest Prep Addition
The Ferris State University women’s soccer program has received a commitment from forward Anslee Stuber-Powell (Lansing/Holt) to attend and compete in women’s soccer at FSU, beginning with the 2004 season. The announcement was made by FSU head coach Melissa Eging, who guided the Bulldogs to a school-record 11-5-1 overall mark in her initial season at the helm last fall.
“Anslee is a crafty player who has shown the ability to score goals,” Eging said. “Her deceptive speed will be a tremendous asset at the college level. She’ll fit in well with our attacking unit.”
The 5-8 Stuber-Powell compiled 10 goals and seven assists while leading Holt High School to its third consecutive Capital Area Conference crown as a junior during the 2003 campaign. Stuber-Powell, who’s presently midst her senior campaign this spring, recorded nine goals and five assists in 2002 following a four goal and three assist effort as a freshman (2001). A three-time honorable mention all-conference selection, Stuber-Powell attained team Most Valuable Player Award recognition in 2001 and has been named to the league all-academic team three consecutive seasons to date under head coach Doris Pipkens. She is a four-year
varsity letterwinner.
“I expect Anslee to develop into a top goal scorer for us as she finds her niche in our system,” said Eging. “She’s an attacking-minded player whose explosiveness should work toward our advantage.”
Stuber-Powell, who’s currently serving as the Rams’ team captain this season, has also played club soccer for the Michigan Hawks and helped guide the squad to a state title and regional berth in 2003. She notched 11 goals and 13 assists at the club level last year.
The daughter of Andrew Powell and Lesha Stuber-Powell, Anslee remains undecided on an academic field. She joins defender Ashley Lukes (Kokomo, Ind./Western), midfielder Andrea Palombi (Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario/St. Mary’s College) and defender/midfielder Ashley Brewer (Dowagiac/Union) as members of FSU’s 2004 recruiting class.
Besides recording the program's best performance in its five-year history last season, the Bulldogs also placed fourth in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) with a 5-3 mark. FSU won eight of its final 11 outings last season after beginning the year with a school-record three consecutive victories. Ferris, which compiled a program-best 5-2-1 road mark in 2003, posted school single-season records for most goals (40), assists (36) and points (116) during the 2003 campaign.
