Ferris State Women's Soccer Notes
Oct. 13, 2003
Senior forward Emily Rogers (Traverse City/Central) scored the game-winning goal 1:18 into overtime as Ferris State remained unbeaten in league play with a 2-1 victory over Northern Michigan Sunday (Oct. 12) in Marquette, Mich. The contest represented Ferris State's only outing of the week.
Ferris' current 7-2-0 mark ranks as the school's best record in its initial nine outings of a campaign. FSU's 3-0 league start this season is the program's best in its five-year history.
The Bulldogs are one win shy of tying a school record for most victories in a single campaign. FSU previously won eight contests during both the 2000 and 2001 campaigns.
Ferris State is ranked 10th in the latest (Oct. 6) National Soccer Coaches Association of America/adidas Division II Great Lakes Regional rankings.
Emily Rogers matched her own school single-season record set during the 2001 campaign by registering her eighth assist this season versus Northern Michigan. The 5-6 Rogers is Ferris' career leader in both points (105) and goals (40).
Freshman defenseman Teresa Henderson (Walled Lake/Bishop Foley) registered her first collegiate goal against Northern Michigan.
Sophomore forward Lisa O'Brian (Kalamazoo, Mich./Loy Norrix) needs one more goal to tie Rogers' single-season record of 11 goals established in both the 2000 and 2002 campaigns.
Ferris State's current 2.85 goals per game average ranks as the program's highest to date. FSU's best all-time seasonal average was 1.84 gpg in 2001.
The Bulldogs will visit Tiffin (Ohio) this Wednesday (Oct. 15) for a 3 p.m. (EDT) non-league contest. Ferris will then face Olivet Nazarene (Ill.) this Thursday (Oct. 16) in a 4 p.m. (EDT) non-conference encounter at the FSU Varsity Soccer Field in Big Rapids, Mich. FSU continues league action by hosting Gannon this Saturday (Oct. 18) at 12 p.m. (EDT) along with Mercyhurst on Sunday (Oct. 19) for a 1 p.m. (EDT) contest.
