FERRIS STATE RECORDS SHUTOUT IN SEASON-OPENING TRIUMPH

FSU Women's Soccer
Junior forward Megan McCabe (Brighton/Pinckney) accounted for the only score as her tally seven minutes into the second half propelled the Ferris State women's soccer team to a 1-0 victory over Southern Indiana this Friday (Aug. 29) at the Grand Valley State Tournament in Allendale, Mich.

McCabe, a transfer from Schoolcraft Community College, netted her first goal in a Ferris State uniform on an assist by senior defender Julia Zilan (Wixom) to account for the only scoring in the non-conference match. McCabe's put on a shot on goal which went off USI goalkeeper Stephanie Bodamer's hands into the left side of the net for the game winner.

Despite being outshot by a 14-10 margin, Ferris State sophomore goalkeeper Becci Houdek (Canton) kept the Screaming Eagles off the scoreboard for about 88 minutes before an injury forced her to leave the match. Houdek finished the contest with five saves before junior Kari Alsager (Mount Pleasant) came in relief to play the final 2:05 of the contest but didn't face a shot on net.

The Bulldogs registered four corner kicks, two in each half, while the Screaming Eagles recorded two total with one in each half.
