 | Becci Houdek |
Sophomore goalkeeper Becci Houdek (Canton) has presently registered 86 saves in 12 matches this season, which ranks sixth among Ferris State's all-time saves leaders. She needs 20 more stops to move into a fifth-place tie with junior goalkeeper Kari Alsager (Mount Pleasant), who has 106 career saves in 26 appearances.
All of freshman forward Maegan Smith's (Hickory Corners/Kalamazoo Christian) six points this season have been on goals. She tallied her first collegiate marker at Lewis (9/7) and then scored twice against Northern Michigan on Sunday (10/12).
Ferris State has currently allowed 16 goals in its initial 12 outings this season after giving up 33 goals a season ago following the team's first 12 matches. The opposition has attempted 203 shots this campaign compared to last season's 191 total.
The Bulldogs' five victories (5-6-1 overall record) this season to date is one shy of matching the 2007 team's six wins (6-12-1 overall).
With its 3-0 home win over Northern Michigan Sunday (10/12), Ferris State posted a regular-season sweep of Wildcats. FSU, which notched a pair of shutouts (1-0 on the road and 3-0 at home) versus NMU this fall, was victorious in both meetings despite being outshot by a 28-to-23 margin in the series. Northern Michigan averaged 14.0 shots per match to Ferris' 11.5 shots total.
