FERRIS SHUTOUTS NMU FOR SECOND STRAIGHT VICTORY
Junior forward Megan McCabe's (Brighton/Pinckney) early first-half goal was all the scoring the Ferris State women's soccer team would need as the Bulldogs knocked off Northern Michigan, 1-0, Sunday (Sept. 21) afternoon in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) action at the NMU Soccer Field in Marquette, Mich.
The conference victory improves Ferris State to 3-3 overall and 2-1 in the GLIAC this season to date. The Bulldogs now have a current two-match winning streak as a result of the decision.
McCabe netted her second goal of this season and the game winner for the crimson and gold at 3:19 in the opening half which accounted for the match's only goal in the 90 minutes of action. Freshman defender Mekyla Spraggins (Grand Rapids/Forest Hills Central) was credited with the assist.
Sophomore goalkeeper Becci Houdek (Canton), who had four saves in the match, registered her first career shutout at Ferris State and improved her mark to 3-2 this fall. Kara Music, NMU's goalkeeper, also turned in a four-save performance.
Northern Michigan managed to outshoot the Bulldogs, 10-9, and also held a 4-0 advantage in corner kicks.
