Seniors Jackie Back (Ortonville/Ortonville-Brandon) and Tammy Unsworth (White Lake/Walled Lake Northern) of the Ferris State University women's soccer team have been selected as captains for the 2008 season in an announcement made by third-year head coach Neathan Gibson.

Back, a 2007 All-Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Second-Team selection, started in all but one of the team's 19 matches last season. The Bulldog defender registered two points on a pair of assists in 2007 en route to receiving FSU's Defensive Player of the Year honors. Back also attained GLIAC All-Academic Team kudos a season ago.

A forward, Unsworth also earned all-conference second-team recognition in 2007 after finishing third in team scoring with 27 points on 10 goals and seven assists as a starter in all 19 matches. Unsworth accumulated nine multiple-point match performances last season and netted at least a goal in eight outings. She concluded the 2008 campaign ranking 79th among the final 2007 NCAA Division II statistical leaders in points per game (1.42 avg.), tied for 87th in assists (0.37), and 96th in goals per game (0.526 avg.). As a sophomore in 2006, Unsworth garnered both second-team all-league and conference all-academic team accolades. She enters her final collegiate season ranking third on Ferris State's all-time leaders list in points (72), goals (27), assists (18), and points per game (1.31) while tying for third place with seven career game-winning tallies.

Ferris State opens its 2008 season this weekend (Aug. 29 and 31) with a pair of non-conference matches at the Grand Valley State Tournament in Allendale, Mich. The Bulldogs face Southern Indiana this Friday (Aug. 29) in their season opener with match time slated for 4 p.m. (EDT). FSU then concludes the weekend's action this Sunday (Aug. 30), going up against Tampa (Fla.) in a 12 p.m. (EDT) tilt.
