Unsworth recorded a school single-game record five individual goals as the Bulldogs posted a decisive 11-1 victory over Northwood it their 2006 GLIAC opener last Wednesday (Sept. 13) at the FSU Soccer Field in Big Rapids, Mich. She also added an assist for a school-record 11 total points in the contest as Ferris claimed its fourth win in its last five outings this season. Her performance helped Ferris set new school single-game records for goals (11), assists (nine) and total points (31) in the contest.
Unsworth's selection this week marks the second time a Bulldog player has claimed the league weekly honor this season as junior midfielder Kristie Smilanich (Kalamazoo/Christian) previously (Sept. 5) received the award.
Unsworth's 21 points and nine goals this campaign are currently ranked tied for eighth place and tied for ninth place, respectively, on the school's single-season leaders charts to date. Her 36 career points presently is seventh on the school's career scoring leaders list while her 14 goals ranks sixth among Ferris' career goal-scoring performers. In addition, she also has eight career assists to date, which places her seventh on FSU's all-time assists chart.
The 5-1 Unsworth tallied both five goals and five assists for 15 total points as a freshman during the 2005 campaign. She placed second on the squad in assists along with fourth in both goals and points last campaign.
Ferris State, which is currently 5-2 overall and 1-0 in the GLIAC this season, will visit Hope Wednesday, Sept. 20, for a 4 p.m. (EDT) non-league encounter at Holland, Mich.
Following Wednesday's tilt at Hope, the Bulldogs return home to host a pair of league
matches this weekend at the FSU Soccer Field in Big Rapids, Mich. FSU will face Northern
Michigan Friday, Sept. 22, at 4 p.m. (EDT) before squaring off against Findlay Sunday,
Sept. 24, in a 12 p.m. (EDT) home encounter.
