Bulldogs Place Seventh At GLIAC Outdoor Championships

The Ferris State men's outdoor track and field team took part in the 2004 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Outdoor Track and Field Championships held Thursday and Friday (May 6-7) at Hillsdale, Mich.

The Bulldog men's team finished seventh in the nine-team field with 24 points. Grand Valley State won the men's crown.

Junior Brent Harkness led the men's squad with a runner-up effort in the pole vault (14-9.50). Junior Ryan Rouse was fifth in the pole vault (14-3.50), freshman Kyle Schuberg placed sixth in the long jump (21-6) and sophomore Bryan Dyer took eighth place in the discus (135-3).

Senior Pat Wehrman was eighth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (10:10.96) and the Bulldogs finished fifth in the 4x100-meter relay (44.42) along with sixth in the 4x400-meter relay (3:28.22).

Bulldogs Gear Up For GLIAC Championships At Northwood Open

The Ferris State University men's outdoor track and field team took part in the non-scoring Northwood Open held Saturday (May 1) in Midland, Mich.

Senior Pat Wehrman won the 3,000-meter steeplechase (9:58.06) and junior Brent Harkness claimed the pole vault (14-5.50) to lead the FSU men's squad.

Junior Ryan Rouse tied for second place in the pole vault (13-11.75), freshman Kyle Schuberg was fourth in the long jump (19-10.25) and freshman Steve Haley placed fifth in the long jump (18-10). Sophomore Sean Maxwell recorded a fifth-place effort in the 110-meter hurdles (16.39) while the Bulldog men took third place in the 4x100-meter relay (44.63) and fourth in the 4x400-meter relay (3:32.72).

Ferris State will take part in the 2004 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Outdoor Track and Field Championships Thursday and Friday, May 6-7, at Hillsdale, Mich.

Ferris State Takes Part In Hillsdale Gina Relays Meet

The Ferris State men's outdoor track and field team took part in the 38th annual Hillsdale "Gina" Relays held Friday and Saturday (April 23-24) in Hillsdale, Mich. The event was the largest collegiate meet in the state with more than 3,000 student-athletes competing.

In the men's competition, the Bulldogs registered seven top-25 efforts in the non-scoring event. Junior Brent Harkness led the way with a sixth-place performance in the pole vault (14-6.25). Freshman Darryl Glashauser was 17th in the triple jump (39-2.25), 21st in the 110-meter hurdles (16.70) and 24th in the 400-meter hurdles (58.98).

Sophomore Sean Maxwell was 16th in the 110-meter hurdles (16.15), freshman Kyle Schuberg placed 17th in the long jump (21-6.50) and junior Ryan Rouse took 17th in the pole vault (13-6.75). The Bulldogs also placed 12th in the men's 4x100-meter relay (44.64).

Ferris will take part in the Northwood Open Saturday, May 1, beginning at 11 a.m. (EDT) in Midland, Mich.

Bulldogs Compete In Non-Scoring SVSU Invitational

The Ferris State University men's outdoor track and field team took part in the non-scoring Saginaw Valley State Invitational Saturday (April 17) in University Center, Mich.

In the men's competition, the Bulldogs totaled 10 top-four performances. Freshman Darryl Glashauser took second place in the 110-meter hurdles (16.15) and was third in the 400-meter hurdles (59.39). Junior Brent Harkness claimed runner-up honors in the pole vault (14-6).

Junior Ryan Rouse was third in the pole vault (14-0), freshman Kyle Schuberg placed fourth in the 200 meters (23.11) and freshman Chase Gibson finished fourth in the 1,500 meters (4:05.81). Sophomore Sean Maxwell tallied a fourth-place effort in the 110-meter hurdles (16.85) and freshman Ryan Jensen was fourth in the discus (133-2).

FSU also placed fourth in both the men's 4x100-meter (44.6) and 4x400-meter (3:32.69) relays.

The Bulldogs will compete in the Hillsdale Gina Relays Friday and Saturday, April 23-24, at Hillsdale, Mich. The meet is set for a 5 p.m. (EDT) start on Friday.

FSU Hosts Annual Bulldog Invitational At Top Taggart Field

The Ferris State University men’s outdoor track and field team hosted the annual Bulldog Invitational Thursday (April 8) at FSU’s Top Taggart Field in Big Rapids, Mich.

The non-scoring meet included student-athletes from Aquinas, Grand Valley State, Michigan Tech, Northern Michigan and Northwood in addition to the host Bulldogs.

Freshman Chase Gibson was second in the 800 meters (1:57.90). Junior Ryan Rouse captured second-place recognition in the pole vault (14-0) while freshman Kyle Schuberg earned runner-up kudos in the long jump (21-3.50). Schuberg also was third in the 200-meter dash (22.3).

Sophomore Ben Petipren finished third in the javelin (133-7), junior Brent Harkness placed third in the pole vault (14-0) and freshman Darryl Glashauser was third in the 400-meter hurdles (1:00.30). Sophomore Sean Maxwell took third place in the 110-meter hurdles (16.0) and sophomore Corey Peyerk received third-place honors in the 400 meters (50.8).

FSU also placed second in both the 4x100-meter (44.10) and the 4x400-meter (3:31.50) relays.

The Bulldogs will take part in the Saginaw Valley State Invitational Saturday (April 17) in University Center, Mich. The meet is set for an 11 a.m. (EDT) start.

Men Finish Fourth In Bluffton Beaver Invitational

The Ferris State men’s outdoor track and field team took part in the Bluffton (Ohio) Beaver Invitational Saturday (April 3) at BC’s Salzman Stadium in Bluffton, Ohio.

In addition to Ferris State and host Bluffton, the meet also included student-athletes from Defiance (Ohio), Albion, Taylor (Ind.), Notre Dame College (Ohio), Tiffin (Ohio) and Bowling Green State.

Ferris' men’s team tallied 73 points while finishing fourth overall. Albion won the men’s division with 198.50 points, Tiffin finished second (176) and Taylor was third (115.50).

Senior Willie Thomas, who played collegiate men’s basketball for the Bulldogs the last two seasons, claimed the high jump (6-2) in his initial collegiate meet. Junior Brent Harkness was second in the pole vault (14-5.25) and sophomore Bryan Dyer placed third in the discus (143-1).

Senior Pat Wehrman attained runner-up accolades in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (10:03.38) while senior Joe Every was third in the 5,000 meters (15:55.81). FSU also finished third in the men’s 4x400-meter relay (3:33.47).

Ferris will return home to host the annual Bulldog Invitational Thursday, April 8, at FSU's Top Taggart Field in Big Rapids, Mich. The meet, which is Ferris' only home outing this campaign, begins at 12 p.m. (EDT).

Men Finish Third In First Outdoor Meet This Campaign

The Ferris State men's outdoor track and field team opened the 2004 outdoor campaign by taking part in the St. Joseph's (Ind.) Gene and Rose Edmonds Invitational Saturday (March 27) at Rensselaer, Ind.

The Bulldog men's team took third place in the three-team field with 75 points. Saginaw Valley State won the men's division with 184 points while meet host St. Joseph's totaled 130 points en route to a second-place men's finish.

Junior Ryan Rouse won the pole vault (14-0) to lead the men's squad.

Sophomore Bryan Dyer earned runner-up honors in both the hammer throw (128-10) and discus (136-1) while junior Brent Harkness took second place in the pole vault (14-0). Freshman Darryl Glashauser placed third in the triple jump (39-9.50).

Freshman Chad Hanson compiled a third-place effort in the shot put (42-0) while freshman Kyle Schuberg was third in the 200 meters (23.34).

Ferris placed second overall in the men's 4x400-meter relay (3:34.95) and third in the 4x100-meter relay (45.13).

FSU will take part in the Bluffton (Ohio) Beaver Invitational this Saturday (April 3) beginning at 10 a.m. (EST) in Bluffton, Ohio. Ferris will then host the annual Bulldog Invitational Thursday, April 8, at Ferris' Top Taggart Field in Big Rapids, Mich. The meet is set to begin at 12 p.m. (EDT).

2003-04 News – Indoor Season

GLIAC Indoor Track & Field Championships Results/Information

The Ferris State women's indoor track and field team placed sixth while the men's squad tied for seventh place at the 2003-04 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Indoor Track and Field Championships held Friday and Saturday (Feb. 27-28) at the University of Findlay's Malcolm Athletic Center in Findlay, Ohio.

The Bulldog women compiled 47 points in the team competition, which was won by Grand Valley State with 185.5 points. GVSU also won the men's division with 185 points. FSU totaled 12 points in the men's team standings.

Sophomore Jenny Irwin (Scottville/Mason County Central) captured the 3,000-meter run in a time of 10:20.78 to lead the Bulldog women. Her performance ranks as the second-best mark in school history.

The Bulldog women also placed second overall in the 4x800-meter relay, which clocked a school-record time of 9:14.16 in the event.

Senior Crystal Kuzma (Wixom/Western) finished third in the 55 meters (7.28), sophomore Leanna Wolf (Fountain/Mason County Central) took fourth place in the 800 meters (2:17.12) and senior Rachel Cox (Gladstone/Battle Creek Lakeview) placed fifth in both the 3,000 meters (10:30.73) along with the 5,000 meters (18:23.66). Cox's times in the 3,000 and 5,000 meters rank fourth and third, respectively, among the school's all-time performers.

Sophomore Geneva Jones (Detroit/Cooley) was sixth in the 800 meters (2:19.19), Irwin placed sixth in the mile run (5:07.59) and junior Michele Vanderhyde (Howard City/Tri-County) finished eighth in the pole vault (10-6.75). FSU also took sixth place in the 4x400-meter relay (4:05.81).

In the men's competition, Ferris was led by senior Kurt Peterson's (St. Louis) runner-up effort in the pole vault (15-3). Sophomore Ben Petipren (Melvin/Brown City) finished eighth in the pole vault (13-9.25), junior Tom Swartwood (Morley/Morley-Stanwood) placed eighth in the shot put (46-10.25) and the Bulldogs took eighth place in both the 4x400 (3:34.29) and 4x800 (8:22.76) meter relays.

Freshman Kyle Schuberg (Big Rapids) was ninth in the long jump (21-6.25) and sophomore Michael Anderson (Farmington Hills/Royal Oak Shrine) finished ninth in the high jump (6-0.75).

The Bulldogs will open their outdoor track and field campaign Saturday, March 27, at the Saint Joseph's (Ind.) Invitational in Rensselaer, Ind. The meet is set for an 11 a.m. (EST) start.

Peterson Wins Pole Vault At Central Michigan Meet

The Ferris State University men’s track and field team competed in the Central Michigan Jack Skoog Open held Friday (Feb. 20) at Mount Pleasant, Mich. The meet included Central Michigan, Lake Superior State, Saginaw Valley State and Northwood in addition to the Bulldogs.

Senior Kurt Peterson guided the men’s team by winning the pole vault (15-6.25) as Ferris compiled 11 top-eight finishes in the men’s division. Junior Ryan Rouse tied for second place in the pole vault (13-11.75), freshman Kyle Schuberg was fourth in the long jump (20-11.75) and junior Tom Swartwood placed fourth in the shot put (46-7.25).

Swartwood added a fifth place effort in the weight throw (44-9.75), sophomore Ben Petipren tied for fifth place in the pole vault (13-5.75) and Schuberg was sixth in the 200 meters (23.49). Sophomore Corey Peyerk took sixth place in the 400 meters (52.55).

Ferris State will take part in the 2004 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Indoor Track and Field Championships Friday and Saturday, Feb. 27-28, at Findlay, Ohio.

Bulldogs Take Part In Eastern Michigan Classic, GVSU Laker Open

The Ferris State men’s indoor track and field team competed in the Eastern Michigan Classic Saturday (Feb. 14) in Ypsilanti, Mich.

Senior Kurt Peterson led the men’s team by tying for second place in the pole vault (15-0.25) and placing fourth in the triple jump (41-0.50). Senior Pat Wehrman was fourth in the 5,000 meters (15:24.68) and freshman Darryl Glashauser finished sixth in the triple jump (38-7.75).

The Bulldog men’s team also placed seventh in the 4x400-meter relay (3:37.99).

Selected student-athletes also competed in Friday’s (Feb. 13) Grand Valley State Mike Lints Laker Open in Allendale, Mich. Freshman Kyle Schuberg finished sixth in the 55 meters (6.81) and seventh in the long jump (20-9.50) for the men’s team while junior Tom Swartwood placed ninth in the shot put (44-5.50).

Ferris State will take part in the Central Michigan Jack Skoog Open this Friday (Feb. 20) in Mount Pleasant, Mich. The event is set for a 5 p.m. (EST) start.

Ferris' Kurt Peterson Reaches National Standard At Division II Team Challenge

The Ferris State University men's track and field team took part in the Division II Team Challenge held Saturday (Feb. 7) at Saginaw Valley State's Ryder Center in University Center, Mich.

The Bulldogs were led by senior Kurt Peterson's second-place performance (15-6) in the pole vault, which ranks tied for second on FSU's all-time indoor chart and meets the NCAA Division II Championships provisonal-qualifying standard.

Junior Ryan Rouse took fifth place (14-0) in the vault while sophomore Ben Petipren tied for seventh place (13-6) in the same event. In addition to his runner-up effort in the pole vault, Peterson also placed seventh (41-7.50) in the triple jump as Ferris totaled four top-eight finishes.

Freshman Kyle Schuberg placed tied for ninth (23.50) in the 200 meters, senior Joe Every was 10th (9:16.62) in the 3,000 meters and sophomore Joe Swendrowski took 11th place (9:22.47) in the 3,000 meters. Freshman Chase Gibson finished 11th (4:32.25) in the mile run for FSU.

Ferris State also was 10th (3:35.39) in the 4x400-meter relay.

The Bulldogs will take part in the Eastern Michigan Open this Saturday (Feb. 14) in Ypsilanti, Mich. The event is set for a 11 a.m. (EST) start.

Ferris Takes Part In Saginaw Valley State Invitational

The Ferris State University men's indoor track and field team took part in the 15th annual Saginaw Valley State Indoor Invitational held Friday (Jan. 23) in SVSU's Ryder Center at University Center, Mich.

The Bulldogs totaled eight top-10 finishes in the non-scoring event. Ferris was led by senior Kurt Peterson, who placed second in the pole vault (14-6) and sixth in the triple jump (41-5.50).

Junior Ryan Rouse took fifth place in the vault (14-0), sophomore Ben Petipren tied for ninth place in the same event (13-0) and junior Tom Swartwood placed tied for seventh in the shot put (44-10.50).

Sophomore Corey Peyerk was seventh in the 400 meters (53.06) and sophomore Michael Anderson tied for 10th place in the high jump (5-10). Ferris also picked up a third place performance in the men's 4x800-meter relay (8:45.09).

Ferris is idle until Saturday, Feb. 7, when the Bulldogs are slated to take part in the Division II Team Challenge at the Ryder Center in University Center. The meet is set to begin at 11 a.m. (EST).

FSU Opens Indoor Campaign At Grand Valley State Open

The The Ferris State University men's indoor track and field team opened the 2003-04 campaign by taking part in Grand Valley State's Bob Eubanks Open held Friday (Jan. 16) evening in GVSU's Fieldhouse Arena at Allendale, Mich.

In the non-scoring competition, FSU had six top-seven individual finishes highlighted by senior Kurt Peterson's runner-up effort in the pole vault (15-0).

Sophomore Corey Peyerk was fourth in the 400 meters (52.92), sophomore Michael Anderson took fifth place in the 55 meters (6.68) and junior Ryan Rouse finished sixth in the pole vault (13-6).

Freshman Darryl Glashauser placed seventh in the triple jump (40-2.50) while freshman Kyle Schuberg was seventh in the long jump (20-5.25).

Ferris State will return to action Friday, Jan. 23, by taking part in the Saginaw Valley State Invitational at University Center, Mich. The meet is set for a 5 p.m. (EST) start.
