Three FSU Athletes Place At Michigan's Len Paddock Invitational
The Ferris State University men's and women's outdoor track and field teams sent selected members to the University of Michigan's Len Paddock Invitational held Friday-Saturday (May 9-10) at UM's Ferry Field in Ann Arbor, Mich.
The Bulldogs had three athletes finish among the top 12 competitors in the non-scoring season-ending meet.
Senior Jessica Berube took eighth place in the 400-meter hurdles as she clocked 1:05.68. Sophomore Sarah Duesing tied for 10th place in the women's high jump with a performance of 5-3.
In the men's competition, freshman Andrew Hayton finished in an 11th place tie in the high jump (6-3.50).
Duesing and senior pole vaulter Adrianne Desenzio both reached provisional qualification marks for the NCAA Division II Championships, but were not among the final national meet entries announced Tuesday (May 13).

FSU Finishes Seventh At GLIAC Outdoor Championships
The Ferris State University men’s outdoor track and field team placed seventh at the 2003 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Championships held Friday and Saturday (May 2-3) at Saginaw Valley State’s Morley Field in University Center, Mich.
Ferris registered 41 points. Grand Valley State claimed the men’s team championship with 209.50 points while Ashland placed second (138) and Findlay was third (109 points).
Freshman Andrew Hayton attained runner-up honors in the high jump (6-9), junior Kurt Peterson placed second in the pole vault (15-00.25) and senior Eric Hincka took second place in the javelin (167-10) for the Bulldog men’s team. Peterson also finished eighth in the triple jump (41-2.50).
Freshman Scott Pocan added a fifth-place performance in the pole vault (14-4.50) while freshman Ben Petipren was sixth (13-4.50) and freshman Ryan Rouse took eighth place (13-4.50) in the same event.
Junior Scott Carhoun placed sixth in the 400-meter hurdles (54.98), sophomore Tom Swartwood took seventh place in the discus (138-8) and senior Pat Wehrman was eighth overall in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (9:49.14). FSU finished eighth in both the men’s 4x100-meter relay (46.58) and the 4x400-meter relay (3:28.36).
The Bulldogs are scheduled to take part in the University of Michigan’s Len Paddock Invitational Friday-Saturday, May 9-10, in Ann Arbor, Mich. The meet is slated to begin Friday at 3 p.m. (EDT).

Ferris Places Second Overall In Final Regular-Season Home Meet
The Ferris State University men's outdoor track and field team placed second in the third annual United States Track Coaches Association (USTCA) Invitational held Saturday (April 26) at FSU's Top Taggart Field in Big Rapids, Mich.
In the men's competition, Ferris won four events and totaled 141 points. SVSU won the men's team championship with 248 points while Aquinas took second (123) and Lake Superior State finished fourth (69).
Individual champions for the Bulldog men included junior Scott Carhoun in the 400-meter hurdles (55.71), freshman Andrew Hayton in the high jump (6-8) and junior Kurt Peterson in the pole vault (15-1). FSU also won the men's 4x400-meter relay (3:26.48).
Ferris had four runner-up finishes in the men's field. Senior Pat Wehrman attained runner-up accolades in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (10:06.51), freshman Scott Pocan placed second in the pole vault (14-0) and Peterson finished second in the javelin (155-4). Sophomore Tom Swartwood took second place in the shot put (50-1.25).
The Bulldog men's track and field team will take part in the 2003 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Championships May 2-3 at Saginaw Valley State University in University Center, Mich. The meet is slated to begin Friday, May 2, at 3 p.m. (EDT).

Ferris Finishes Second At Saginaw Valley State Collegiate Invitational
The Ferris State men’s outdoor track and field team placed first second overall at the Saginaw Valley State Collegiate Invitational held Saturday (April 19) at SVSU’s Morley Field in University Center, Mich.
FSU scored 119 points in the men’s field, which was won by SVSU with 215.50 points. Athletes from nine different schools took part in the meet.
In the men’s competition, Ferris won three events. Junior Joe Every took the 1,500-meter run (4:16.07), junior Scott Carhoun claimed the 400-meter hurdles (55.27) and FSU also emerged victorious in the 4x400-meter relay (3:29.98).
FSU had four of the top eight performers in the men’s pole vault, including a second-place effort (15-0) from junior Kurt Peterson and a third-place vault (14-0) by freshman Ryan Rouse. Peterson added a third-place finish in the javelin (157-11.50).
Freshman Corey Peyerk took third place in the 800 meters (2:00.11) while freshman Sean Maxwell placed third in the 110-meter hurdles (16.61) for Ferris State.
The Bulldogs will host the United States Track Coaches Association meet Saturday, April 26, at FSU’s Top Taggart Field in Big Rapids, Mich. The meet is slated to start at 11 a.m. (EDT).

Bulldogs Win Three Events In Annual Home Meet
The Ferris State men's outdoor track and field team hosted the annual Bulldog Invitational on Saturday (April 12) at FSU's Top Taggart Field in Big Rapids, Mich.
FSU won three events in the non-scoring meet. The Bulldog men also posted two runner-up performances and five third-place finishes in the school's first home meet this season.
Junior Scott Carhoun won the 400-meter hurdles (55.57), junior Kurt Peterson attained pole vault (14-6) championship honors and senior Eric Hincka took the javelin (165-5). Peterson added a runner-up performance in the javelin (159-10) for FSU while freshman Scott Pocan attained runner-up accolades in the pole vault (14-6).
Freshman Antoine Austin took third place in the 100-meter dash (11.42), freshman Sean Maxwell placed third in the 110-meter hurdles (16.34) and freshman Andrew Hayton was third in the high jump (6-4). Sophomore Tom Swartwood finished third in both the shot put (46-1.50) and the discus (129-8).
Ferris is slated to take part in the Saginaw Valley State Invitational Saturday, April 19, in University Center, Mich. The meet is slated to start at 11 a.m. (EDT).

Saturday's Michigan State Open Cancelled Due To Weather
Ferris State will not take part in this Saturday's (April 5) Michigan State Open in East Lansing, Mich., which has been cancelled due to weather-related conditions. Heavy rains left much of the track surface and field event areas under water with additional rain forecast for the weekend. The meet will not be rescheduled.
FSU will host the annual Bulldog Invitational Saturday, April 12, at Top Taggart Field. The field events are slated to begin at 10:30 a.m. (EDT) with the running events scheduled to start at 11 a.m. (EDT).

Bulldogs Garner Fifth-Place Honors At Jerry England Invitational
The Ferris State men's outdoor track and field team took part in the season-opening Jerry England Invitational held Saturday (March 29) at Indianapolis, Ind.
In the men's competition, FSU tallied 53 points and placed fifth overall among 20 competing teams. Saginaw Valley State finished first (132.50 points), Indianapolis was second (124.50), Albion took third (94) and St. Joseph's placed fourth (80).
The Bulldog men had 14 top-eight finishes, including two from junior Kurt Peterson. He tied the program's third-best all-time outdoor pole vault mark (15-0) while winning the meet's individual title. Peterson also registered runner-up honors in the javelin (157-7).
Freshman Andrew Hayton took second place in the high jump (6-4), senior Pat Wehrman finished fourth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (9:59.10) and junior Scott Carhoun was fifth in the 400-meter hurdles (57.27).
Senior Steve Picucci placed seventh in the 5,000 meters (15:21.47), freshman Corey Peyerk was seventh in the 400 meters (52.52) and junior Joe Every took eighth place in the 5,000 meters (15:24.60). Freshman Ben Petipren compiled a seventh-place showing in the pole vault (13-0).
Senior Eric Hincka finished eighth in the javelin (137-2.50) and 11th overall in the high jump (5-8) for Ferris State. FSU also took fourth place in the 4x400-meter relay (3:32.29) while sophomore Tom Swartwood placed fifth in the shot put (45-1.50) and eighth in the hammer throw (134-9).
Ferris will return to action this Saturday (April 5) at the Michigan State Open in East Lansing, Mich. The meet is slated to start at 9 a.m. (EST).

Bulldogs Place Eighth At GLIAC Indoor Championships
The Ferris State men's indoor track and field team took part in the 2002-03 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships this weekend (Feb. 28-March 1) at Saginaw Valley State's Ryder Center in University Center, Mich.
Ferris was eighth overall in the men's field as the Bulldogs tallied 18 points. Grand Valley State won the men's crown with 214 points, Ashland took second (121) and Saginaw Valley State was third (82 points).
In the men's competition, FSU had seven top-eight performances. The Bulldogs were led by junior Kurt Peterson, who placed third overall in the pole vault (14-5.25).
Freshman Scott Pocan took fifth place in the pole vault (13-11.25), freshman Andrew Hayton was fifth in the high jump (6-2) and senior Steve Picucci placed eighth in the 5,000-meter run (15:27.10). Senior Eric Hincka added an eighth-place performance in the high jump (6-2) for Ferris State.
The Bulldog men also took eighth place in both the 4x400-meter (3:33.26) and 4x800-meter (8:20.98) relays.

Ferris Competes At Central Michigan Jack Skoog Open
The Ferris State men's indoor track and field team took part in the non-scoring Jack Skoog Open held at Central Michigan's Jack Skoog Indoor Track last Friday (Feb. 21) in Mount Pleasant, Mich.
In the pole vault, Ferris had four athletes finish among the top 10 competitors. Freshman Scott Pocan was third (14-7.25), junior Kurt Peterson took fourth place (14-7.25) and freshman Ryan Rouse finished seventh (13-7.25). Freshman Ben Petipren placed ninth (13-7.25) in the event.
Freshman Sean Maxwell registered a fourth-place finish in the 60-meter hurdles (9.06), freshman Andrew Hayton was fourth in the high jump (6-4) and senior Eric Hincka tied for seventh place in the high jump (5-10). FSU also placed fourth in the 4x400-meter relay (3:34.23) while Hayton added a ninth place finish in the long jump (19-0.75).
Junior Joe Every took eighth place in the 3,000-meter run (8:49.86), freshman Corey Peyerk placed 10th in the 400 meters (54.26) and senior Steve Picucci was 11th in the 3,000 meters (8:53.10).
Sophomore Tom Swartwood placed 10th in both the shot put (43-4.50) and the weight throw (42-6.25).
FSU will take part in the 2002-03 GLIAC Indoor Track and Field Championships this weekend (Friday, Feb. 28-Saturday, March 1) at Saginaw Valley State's Ryder Center in University Center, Mich.

Bulldogs Record Five Top Eight Finishes At Eastern Michigan Meet
Ferris State sent a limited number of athletes to the Eastern Michigan Track & Field Classic held Saturday (Feb. 15) at EMU's Bob Parks Indoor Track in Ypsilanti, Mich.
The Bulldog women registered four top-eight performances while senior Steve Picucci of the FSU men's indoor track and field team placed fifth in the 5,000-meter run (15:23.26).
In the women's competition, sophomore Crystal Kuzma placed fourth in the 200-meter dash (25.79), junior Jennifer Delamater was sixth in the 200 meters (26.18) and junior Molly Machinski finished eighth (26.67) in the same event. FSU also recorded a third-place performance in the women's 4x400-meter relay (4:06.86).
Ferris will return to action Friday, Feb. 21, at the Central Michigan Jack Skoog Open in Mount Pleasant, Mich. The meet is slated to begin at 3 p.m. (EST).

Ferris Records Six Top-Five Finishes At GVSU Laker Challenge
The Ferris State men’s indoor track and field team took part in the Grand Valley State Mike Lints Laker Challenge on Friday (Feb. 14) at GVSU’s Fieldhouse Arena in Allendale, Mich.
In the men’s competition, the Bulldogs had six top-five performances.
Ferris took the top three spots in the pole vault as freshman Scott Pocan placed first (14-6), junior Kurt Peterson finished second (14-0) and freshman Ben Petipren was third (13-6). Freshman Ryan Rouse tied for sixth place in the event (13-0).
Senior Pat Wehrman placed fifth in the 5,000-meter run (15:50.46), junior Joe Klein took seventh in the 400 meters (57.20) and junior Joe Every finished seventh in the mile run (4:28.27). Freshman Andrew Hayton compiled a fifth-place high jump finish (6-6).
FSU also took third in the men’s 4x400-meter relay (3:34.25).
Ferris will return to action Friday, Feb. 21, at the Central Michigan Jack Skoog Open in Mount Pleasant, Mich. The meet is slated to begin at 3 p.m. (EST).

FSU Records Eight Top 10 Finishes At Division II Team Challenge
The Ferris State men's indoor track & field team took part in the Division II Team Challenge last Saturday (Feb. 8) at Saginaw Valley State's Ryder Center in University Center, Mich. FSU had eight top 10 performances.
Freshman Scott Pocan attained runner-up accolades in the pole vault (14-6) to lead the Bulldogs. Junior Kurt Peterson placed third overall in the pole vault (14-6) and was ninth in the triple jump (40-3).
Junior Joe Every finished fourth in the 3,000 meters (8:54.47), senior Steve Picucci was fifth in the mile run (4:27.48) and freshman Andrew Hayton took fifth place in the high jump (6-6).
In addition, freshman Ryan Rouse registered a fourth-place performance in the pole vault (14-0) and placed 22nd overall in the 400 meters (57.36). FSU also finished fifth in the 4x800-meter relay (8:29.28).
FSU will take part in the Grand Valley State Laker Challenge this Friday (Feb. 14) at GVSU's Fieldhouse Arena in Allendale, Mich. The meet is slated to start at 4 p.m. (EST).

Ferris Takes Part In Lewis Friday Night Series Meet
The Ferris State men’s indoor track and field team took part in the Lewis (Ill.) Friday Night Series #2 meet on Friday (Jan. 31) in Romeoville, Ill.
Junior Scott Carhoun emerged victorious in the 1,000-meter run (2:41.83) for the FSU men’s team. Freshman Andrew Hayton finished second in the high jump (6-0) and was ninth in the long jump (19-0.25).
In the men’s 5,000 meters, senior Steve Picucci attained runner-up accolades (15:45.15) and junior Joe Every finished third (15:49.03).
Senior Eric Hincka was third in the high jump (6-0) while freshman Corey Peyerk took fifth place in the 400 meters (54.40). Junior Kurt Peterson finished fifth in the triple jump (40-8.50) and eighth in the pole vault (14-0).
Sophomore Tom Swartwood placed fourth in both the weight throw (44-4.25) and the shot put (44-11.50). In addition, freshman Sean Maxwell was fourth in the 200-meter hurdles (28.70) and sixth in the 55-meter hurdles (8.46).
Freshman Scott Pocan registered a sixth place pole vault (14-0) performance and a seventh-place triple jump (37-4) finish.
The Bulldog men also took third place in the distance medley relay (11:13.39) and fourth place in the 4x200-meter relay (1:39.89).
Ferris will return to action Saturday, Feb. 8, at the Division II Team Challenge in University Center, Mich. The meet, which will be hosted by Saginaw Valley State, is slated to begin at 11 a.m. (EST).

Bulldogs Compete At GVSU Laker Open
The Ferris State men’s indoor track and field team took part in the Grand Valley State Laker Open Saturday (Jan. 25) at the GVSU Fieldhouse Arena in Allendale, Mich.
In the men’s competition, Ferris had three third-place performances. They included freshman Antoine Austine in the 55 meters (6.87), freshman Sean Maxwell in the 55-meter hurdles (8.40) and freshman Andrew Hayton in the high jump (6-5).
Freshman Ryan Rouse took fourth place in the pole vault (13-6) while junior Kurt Peterson finished fifth (13-6) in the same event.
Senior Eric Hincka placed fifth in the high jump (5-11), freshman Corey Peyerk was fifth in the 400 meters (52.99) and senior Steve Picucci took seventh in the 3,000-meter run (8:51.55). Junior Scott Carhoun added an eighth-place finish in the 800 meters (2:03.23) while sophomore Tom Swartwood was ninth in the shot put (43-5) and 11th in the weight throw (42-4). FSU also recorded a second-place performance in the men’s 4x400-meter relay (3:34.72).
Ferris State will return to action next Friday (Jan. 31) as the Bulldogs compete in the Lewis (Ill.) Friday Night Series #2 meet at Romeoville, Ill. The meet is slated to begin at 4 p.m. (EST).

Bulldogs Win One Event At SVSU Cardinal Open
The Ferris State men's indoor track and field team won one event in the non-scoring Saginaw Valley State Cardinal Indoor Open held Friday (Jan. 17) at SVSU’s Ryder Center in University Center, Mich.
Ferris' lone individual champion was freshman Ben Petipren, who claimed the pole vault (13-6). FSU junior Kurt Peterson and freshman Ryan Rouse also reached 13-6 in the same event, but finished in a tie for third place.
Junior Joe Every placed fourth in the mile (4:34.58), senior Steve Picucci took fourth in the 3,000 meters (9:04.84) and junior Pat Wehrman was fifth in the mile (4:35.03). Freshman Andrew Hayton added a fourth-place high jump finish (6-4) while freshman Sean Maxwell placed fifth in the 60-meter hurdles (9.20).
Senior Eric Hincka tied for fifth place in the high jump (5-10) and freshman Scott Pocan tied for fifth place in the pole vault (13-0).

Ferris Records Three Top Three Finishes At SVSU Holiday Open

The Ferris State University men's indoor track and field team recorded three top-three finishes in the 2002-03 season-opening Saginaw Valley State University Holiday Open held Friday (Dec. 6) evening at the Ryder Center in University Center, Mich.
Sophomore Shane Ballard won the triple jump (41-8), placed second in the high jump (6-4) and was eighth in the 60-meter dash (7.34) for FSU. Junior Joe Every finished third in the 3,000 meter run (8:56.13).
Freshman Sean Maxwell was fourth in the 60-meter hurdles (9.20) while senior Eric Hincka and freshman Andrew Hayton tied for fourth place in the high jump at 6-2. Senior Steve Picucci took fifth place in the 3,000 meters (9:05.39), freshman Ben Petipren placed fourth in the pole vault (13-6) and junior Scott Carhoun finished ninth in the 800-meter run (2:03.02).
Sophomore Tom Swartwood added a seventh-place finish in the weight throw (40-8) and placed 10th in the shot put (37-9.50) while junior Joe Klein finished 14th in the 800 meters (2:10.35).
The next competition for the FSU men's team is Jan. 17, 2003, at the Saginaw Valley State Cardinal Open in University Center, Mich.
