Ferris Wraps Up Action In 2007 NCAA-II Track & Field Championships

Ferris State University wrapped up its action in the 2007 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Friday (May 25) at the Irwin Belk Complex on the campus of Johnson C. Smith University in Charlotte, N.C.

Junior thrower Kamitra Carroll (Flint/Carman-Ainsworth) competed on Friday and placed 10th overall of 21 throwers in the shot put with a best toss of 45-6.50 in the event. The top eight earned All-America accolades.

Carroll also narrowly missed earning All-America kudos in the opening day of action Thursday (May 24) in her first event, the hammer throw, where she placed 10th overall of 17 throwers with a toss of 167-03 in the event.

Ferris State men's junior runner Jared Kelsh (Chippewa Lake/Chippewa Hills) failed to qualify for the finals in the 1,500 meters after placing sixth in the first flight of the preliminary round with a time of 3:57.08 on Thursday. He finished 15th overall of the 18 participants in the preliminary round action.

Carroll and Kelsh were FSU's lone representatives at the NCAA-II Championships. The Bulldogs will not have anyone competing in Saturday's (May 26) third and final day of competition at the national meet.

Two Bulldog Athletes Tune Up For NCAA-II Track & Field Championships

Two members of the Ferris State University men's and women's outdoor track and field teams tuned up for what they hope is a berth in the 2007 NCAA Division II Championships by taking part in the annual North Central (Ill.) Dr. Keeler Invitational on Saturday (May 12) in Naperville, Ill.

Bulldog women's junior thrower Kamitra Carroll (Flint/Carman-Ainsworth) won the shot put with a toss of 43-10 at the meet. The field included 20 competitors.

Meanwhile, junior runner Jared Kelsh (Chippewa Lake/Chippewa Hills) of the men's track squad placed fifth of 71 runners in the 1,500 meters with a time of 3:50.35 at the event.

The non-scoring invitational field included teams from a variety of levels of competition along with unattached athletes.

Kelsh and Carroll have both reached national provisional qualification marks for the NCAA-II Outdoor Track and Field Championships, which will be held May 24-26 at the Irwin Belk Complex in Charlotte, N.C., and hosted by Johnson C. Smith University. The final meet selections will be announced Tuesday (May 15).

Ferris Women Fifth, Men Ninth At GLIAC Outdoor Championships

The Ferris State University men's and women's outdoor track and field teams completed action in the 2007 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Championships Friday (May 4) at Northwood University in Midland, Mich.

The Bulldog women's team placed fifth of 10 teams in the two-day event with 76 points while the men's squad finished ninth overall with 19 points. Grand Valley State captured both the men's and women's league titles with 271.50 and 249 points, respectively. Ashland finished second in both divisions.

The Bulldog women's squad had 15 top-six meet performances in the competition.

Junior thrower Kamitra Carroll (Flint/Carman-Ainsworth) placed among the top four finishers in two events as she took second place in the shot put (45-3.75) and fourth in the hammer throw (164-11).

FSU junior Dia Price (Mt. Morris/Beecher) earned third-place honors in the triple jump (36-2.25), sophomore Krystle Wilson (Detroit/Trinity Catholic) was third in the 400 meters (57.12) and senior Kristen Balla (Farmington) placed fourth in the 10,000 meters (38:30.48).

Junior Ebony Franklin (Flint/Southwestern) finished fourth in the 100-meter hurdles (14.83) and was fifth in the 100 meters (12.64), senior Elizabeth Engle (Colon) placed fourth in the javelin (114-11), sophomore Ashley Lehmann (Grand Rapids/Grandville) took fifth place in the 10,000 meters (38:56.42) while freshman Emily Cross (Riley/Armada) tallied a fifth-place effort in the high jump (5-3.25).

Senior Ashley Farr (Detroit/King) came in fifth overall in the 400 meters (58.26) along with placing sixth in the 200 meters (26.15). Additionally, sophomore Mikinzie Stuart (Saginaw/Nouvel) recorded a sixth-place finish in the 3,000 meters (10:25.03) and senior Margot McGlothlin (Traverse City/Suttons Bay) finished sixth in the 800 meters (2:18.71).

The Bulldog women's team also was fifth in the 4x100-meter relay (50.09).

Junior Jared Kelsh (Chippewa Lake/Chippewa Hills) once again led the men's squad as he claimed third place in both the 800 meters (1:54.18) and the 1,500 meters (3:52.79). His time in the 1,500 meters surpassed the national provisional qualifying standard.

Junior Chad Menefee (Sand Lake/Cedar Springs) was seventh in the 400-meter hurdles (57.19) and the quartet of freshmen Mike Golden (Caro/Frankenmuth) and Matt Jozwiak (Berkley, Mich.) along with juniors Brian Williams (Detroit) and junior Phil Doyle (Zeeland) finished fifth in the 4x400-meter relay (3:22.50).

Selected members of the Bulldog track and field team are next scheduled to compete in the annual North Central (Ill.) Dr. Keeler Invitational Thursday and Friday, May 10-11, in Naperville, Ill. The meet begins Thursday at 12:15 p.m. (CDT).

Ferris Wraps Up Action In 41st Annual Hillsdale "Gina" Relays

The Ferris State University men's and women's outdoor track and field teams wrapped up action in the 41st annual Hillsdale "Gina" Relays on Saturday (April 28) at Hillsdale, Mich. The meet was held at HC's Ken Herrick Track.

The three-day non-scoring event included hundreds of student-athletes from a variety of NCAA Division I, II and III schools along with NAIA programs, junior college schools and unattached athletes.

The Bulldog women's squad had five top-eight individual performances in the Gina Relays. Sophomore Krystle Wilson (Detroit/Trinity Catholic) led the way with a fifth-place finish in the 400 meters (56.84).

Junior thrower Kamitra Carroll (Flint/Carman-Ainsworth) placed in two events as she took sixth place in the hammer throw (167-11) and seventh in the shot put (44-6.75).

Senior Ashley Farr (Detroit/King) came in eighth overall in the 400 meters (57.83) while junior Ebony Franklin (Flint/Southwestern) added an eighth-place showing in the 100-meter hurdles (14.96). Sophomore Mikinzie Stuart (Saginaw/Nouvel) recorded a 10th-place performance in the women's 3,000 meters (10:37.09).

Junior Jared Kelsh (Chippewa Lake/Chippewa Hills) paced the Bulldog men's team with a sixth-place effort in the 1,500 meters (3:54.02). He was the only Ferris men's track and field athlete to place in the top eight at the meet.

The second annual GLIAC Championship Multi's (heptathlon, decathlon) were also held in conjunction with the Gina Relays and Bulldog junior Dia Price (Mt. Morris/Beecher) took fourth place in the women's conference heptathlon competition with 3,924 points.

Ferris State will take part in the annual GLIAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships Thursday and Friday, May 3-4, at Northwood University in Midland, Mich. Thursday's opening day of action is set to begin at 2 p.m. (EDT).

Ferris Teams Back In Action At Northwood Invitational

The Ferris State University men's and women's track and field squads returned to action by taking part in the Northwood Invitational Saturday (April 21) in Midland, Mich.

The non-scoring event included participants from several schools including Saginaw Valley State, Northwood, Ferris, Macomb Community College, Northern Michigan and unattached athletes.

The Bulldog women's team finished with 10 top-three individual performances while the men's squad totaled eight such efforts.

Leading the way for Ferris State was freshman Emily Cross (Riley/Armada), who was Ferris' only individual women's winner on the day with a championship performance in the high jump (5-5.75). She added a third-place showing in the 100-meter hurdles (15.63).

Sophomore Krystle Wilson (Detroit/Trinity Catholic) finished second in the 200 meters (25.45), senior Margot McGlothlin (Traverse City/Suttons Bay) was second in the 400 meters (1:00.29) and junior Ebony Franklin (Flint/Southwestern) placed second in the 100-meter hurdles (15.59) for the Bulldog women.

Junior Dia Price (Mt. Morris/Beecher) earned runner-up laurels in the long jump (16-4.25), senior Elizabeth Engle (Colon) took second place in the javelin (116-10) and the Bulldogs were also second in the women's 4x100-meter realy (49.76).

Additionally, junior Kamitra Carroll (Flint/Carman-Ainsworth) finished second in both the shot put (45-6.50) and the hammer throw (162-9).

In the men's competition, junior Adam Brown (McMillan/Newberry) was the highest finisher as he earned a tie for first place in the pole vault (13-11.75).

Junior Jared Kelsh (Chippewa Lake/Chippewa Hills) claimed runner-up kudos in the 800 meters (1:54.63), junior Phil Doyle (Zeeland) was second in the 400 meters (51.54) and FSU recorded a second-place effort in the men's 4x400 meter relay (3:28.27).

Sophomore Dan Volk (Rockford) placed third in the 400 meters (52.75) and junior Chad Menefee (Sand Lake/Cedar Springs) finished third in the 400-meter hurdles (58.29).

Sophomore Greg Turrell (Marysville) added a second-place showing in the men's shot put (43-8.75) while sophomore Justin Paquette (Manton) took third place in the same event (43-3.25).

Ferris State next takes part in the 41st annual Hillsdale College "Gina Relays" Friday and Saturday, April 27-28, in Hillsdale, Mich. The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Multi Events (decathlon, heptathlon) will also be held in conjunction with the Gina Relays on Thursday and Friday, April 26-27. Thursday's initial action begins at 3 p.m. (EDT).

Bulldogs Track Teams Competed In Two Meets This Past Weekend

The Ferris State University menís and womenís outdoor track and field teams sent student-athletes to two different meets this past weekend. The Bulldogs finished fourth in both the menís and womenís team competitions at the annual Saginaw Valley State Outdoor College Invitational held Saturday (April 14) in University Center, Mich.

Additionally, the Bulldogs had a selected handful of individuals compete Friday and Saturday (April 13-14) in the prestigious University of Tennessee Sea Ray Relays, which took place in Knoxville (Tenn.) and featured some of the nationís top performers from the NCAA Division I level.

Junior Jared Kelsh (Chippewa Lake/Chippewa Hills) posted an impressive showing in the 1,500 meters at the Sea Ray Relays as he clocked 3:53.39 in finishing ninth overall of 43 runners in the field.

Also competing for the Bulldog men down in Tennessee were freshman Mike Golden (Caro/Frankenmuth), who took 39th place in the 400 meters (50.00), and junior Brian Williams (Detroit), who placed 48th in the same event (51.52).

In the womenís competition at the Sea Ray Relays, senior distance runners Kristen Balla (Farmington) and Julia Viel (Big Rapids) competed in the 10,000 meters and placed seventh (38:26.96) and eighth (39:20.86), respectively.

Sophomore Mikinzie Stuart (Saginaw/Nouvel) came in 20th in the 3,000 meters (10:29.76) at the Sea Ray Relays while senior Ashley Farr (Detroit/King) took 50th place in the 400 meters (58.82). Freshman Emily Cross (Riley/Armada) was 29th overall in the high jump (5-1) and 45th in the 100-meter hurdles (16.85).

Meanwhile, junior Adam Brown (McMillan/Newberry) guided the menís team at the Saginaw Valley State Collegiate Invitational with a first-place effort in the pole vault (14-6). Junior Phil Doyle (Zeeland) was third in the 400 meters (52.23) and the Bulldogs placed third in the menís 4x400-meter relay (3:34.12).

In the womenís field, the Bulldogs had seven top-three efforts at the SVSU meet. Senior Elizabeth Engle (Colon) won the javelin (34.28m) and junior Kamitra Carroll (Flint/Carman-Ainsworth) earned runner-up honors in both the shot put (47-9.25) and the hammer throw (47.83m).

The Bulldog women were second in the 4x100-meter relay (50.61), sophomore Krystle Wilson (Detroit/Trinity Catholic) earned runner-up honors in the 400 meters (58.57) and junior Ebony Franklin (Flint/Southwestern) finished third in the 100-meter hurdles (15.68). Sophomore Ashley Lehmann (Grand Rapids/Grandville) took third place in the 10,000 meters (44:33.68).

Northern Michigan won the womenís team race at the SVSU Outdoor Collegiate meet with 179.50 points as Saginaw Valley State came in second (164) and Michigan Tech third (101) among 12 competing teams. In the menís competition, host SVSU compiled 207.50 points in placing first, Lake Superior State was second (80.50) and Northwood third (76).

Ferris State returns to action by taking part in the Northwood Invitational Saturday, April 21, in Midland, Mich. The meet is slated for an 11 a.m. (EDT) start.

Bulldogs Open 2007 Outdoor Campaign At Saint Joseph's Event

The Ferris State University men's and women's outdoor track and field teams opened the 2007 outdoor campaign by taking part in the Gene and Rose Edmonds Invitational hosted by Saint Joseph's (Ind.) College Saturday (March 31) in Rensselaer, Ind.

The Bulldogs women's squad earned runner-up honors in the six-team field with 116 points while the men's team placed fourth overall with 62 points.

Kamitra Carroll Earns All-America Honors In Two Events At Nationals

Junior thrower Kamitra Carroll (Flint/Carman-Ainsworth) of the Ferris State University women's indoor track and field squad wrapped up action with a sixth-place overall finish in the shot put at the NCAA-II Indoor Track and Field Championships Saturday (March 10) in Boston, Mass.

Carroll earned All-America kudos in the event with a top toss of 46-5.50. The winner was Bemidji State's (Minn.) Sheena Devine with a performance of 51-0.25 in the event.

Carroll previously claimed national runner-up honors with the weight throw in Friday's (March 9) opening day of action at the national meet.

Her best toss of 59-4 in the weight throw came in second overall behind Winona State's (Minn.) Emily King, who recorded a top throw of 60-9.50 in the event.

The top eight finishers in each event earn All-America recognition at the national meet.

Carroll was FSU's lone participant in the NCAA-II Championships at the Reggie Lewis Track & Athletics Center in Boston.

Ferris Women Fifth, Men Eighth At GLIAC Indoor Championships

The Ferris State University women's indoor track and field team finished fifth while the Bulldog men's squad was eighth overall in the 2007 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Indoor Championships held Friday and Saturday (Feb. 23-24) in University Center, Mich.

The Bulldog women's team netted 49.50 points in the nine-team field. Grand Valley State won both the men's and women's divisions with 215 and 203.50 points, respectively. Ashland came in second overall in both the men's and women's competition.

Sophomore Krystle Wilson (Detroit/Trinity Catholic) reached an NCAA Division II National Provisional qualification mark in earning runner-up honors in the 400 meters (57.57). She also placed third overall in the 200 meters (25.66).

Junior Kamitra Carroll (Flint/Carman-Ainsworth) placed second in the shot put (46-7.50) and was fourth in the weight throw (55-11) while surpassing the national provisional qualification standard in both events.

Freshman Emily Cross (Riley/Armada) tied for third place in the high jump (5-5.25) and took sixth place in the 55-meter hurdles (8.57). Junior Dia Price (Mt. Morris/Beecher) finished fourth overall in the triple jump (35-2.50), senior sprinter Ashley Farr (Detroit/King) came in sixth in the 400 meters (59.42) and senior Chandra Robinson (Warren/Mott) recorded a seventh-place effort in the 800 meters (2:20.53).

The Bulldog women also placed fifth overall in the 4x400-meter relay (4:06.37) with a team consisting of Farr, Wilson, Robinson and senior Margot McGlothlin (Traverse City/Suttons Bay).

Junior Jared Kelsh (Chippewa Lake/Chippewa Hills) paced the men's team with a runner-up finish in the mile run (4:15.03) and a seventh-place performance in the 800 meters (1:56.54). His performance in the mile run was a national provisional qualifying time.

Kelsh also ran a leg on FSU's distance medley relay team, which finished fifth (10:28.14) in the field. The other runners included junior Ray Rollet (South Rockwood/Airport), freshman Matt Jozwiak (Berkley) and sophomore Dan Volk (Rockford). Volk was a part of the 4x400-meter relay team that placed sixth (3:33.66) along with junior Phil Doyle (Zeeland), junior Brian Williams (Detroit) and junior Chad Menefee (Sand Lake/Cedar Springs).

Final meet entries for the NCAA-II National Indoor Championships will be announced this week. The national indoor meet is set for March 9-10 at the Reggie Lewis Center in Boston, Mass.

Ferris Track Tunes Up For GLIAC Indoor Championships

The Ferris State University men's and women's indoor track and field teams tuned up for the annual Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Championships by taking part in the Central Michigan Jack Skoog Open Friday (Feb. 16) evening in Mount Pleasant, Mich.

The event included student-athletes from Ferris, Saginaw Valley State, Oakland, CMU, Alma, Lake Superior State, Northwood along with other institutions.

Sophomore Krystle Wilson (Detroit/Trinity Catholic) paced the Bulldog women in the non-scoring meet with a first-place finish in the 400 meters (57.64). She also came in third overall in the 200 meters (25.93).

Junior Kamitra Carroll (Flint/Carman-Ainsworth) finished third overall in the shot put (44-1.25), senior sprinter Ashley Farr (Detroit/King) took fourth place in the 400 meters (60.33) and sophomore Ashley Lehmann (Grand Rapids/Grandville) was fifth in the 3,000 meters (10:53.02).

Freshman Emily Cross (Riley/Armada) placed in three events as she was third in the high jump (5-4.25), fourth in the long jump (16-6) along with sixth in the 60-meter hurdles (9.10). Junior Dia Price (Mt. Morris/Beecher) took fourth place in the high jump (5-4.25) and fifth place in the triple jump (33-8.50).

Junior Jared Kelsh (Chippewa Lake/Chippewa Hills) led the men's squad with a runner-up effort in the 800 meters (1:57.35).

Sophomore captain Greg Turrell (Marysville) was fourth in the shot put (46-4.75) and fifth in the weight throw (47-6.50). Junior Phil Doyle (Zeeland) placed fifth in the 400 meters (52.34), junior Brian Williams (Detroit) finished sixth in the 400 meters (52.55) and freshman Joe Leppek (Goodrich) took sixth place in the pole vault (12-0). Freshman John Calvert (Lake/Heritage) added a sixth-place finish in the shot put (43-2.25).

Ferris State will take part in the 2007 GLIAC Indoor Track and Field Championships Friday and Saturday, Feb. 23-24, in University Center, Mich. The league meet will be hosted by Saginaw Valley State University and begin at approximately 4 p.m. (EST) Friday.

Ferris Track Teams In Action At Grand Valley State Open

The Ferris State University men's and women's indoor track and field squads totaled 10 top-five performances in the non-scoring Grand Valley State Open held Friday (Feb. 9) evening inside GVSU's Fieldhouse Arena at Allendale, Mich.

The annual event included student-athletes from Ferris, GVSU, Calvin, Hope, Aquinas, Olivet, Alma along with unattached individuals and competitors from several other institutions.

Junior Kamitra Carroll (Flint/Carman-Ainsworth) led the way for Ferris as she captured two individual throwing events in the women's competition. Carroll won the shot put with a toss of 44-7 and also placed first in the weight throw (55-11.25).

Sophomore Krystle Wilson (Detroit/Trinity Catholic) earned runner-up honors in the 200 meters (26.14) while junior Dia Price (Mt. Morris/Beecher) finished second in the triple jump (35-3) for FSU.

Ferris senior sprinter Ashley Farr (Detroit/King) came in fourth overall in the 200 meters (26.29) and freshman Margot McGlothlin (Traverse City/Suttons Bay) was fifth in the 400 meters (1:03.80).

In the men's competition, the Bulldogs placed second in the 4x400-meter relay (3:33.65).

Junior Phil Doyle (Zeeland) and sophomore Dan Volk (Rockford) placed third and fourth, respectively, in the men's 400 meters with times of 52.42 and 52.56 individually.

Junior Ray Rollet (South Rockwood/Airport) added a fourth-place effort in the 3,000 meters (8:57.92) for the Bulldogs.

The Bulldog men also notched a pair of sixth-place finishes from junior Jon Coeling (Hudsonville) in the 55 meters (6.81) and freshman Conner McGaffey (Troy/Detroit Jesuit) in the long jump (20-3.50).

Ferris State is next scheduled to compete in the Central Michigan Jack Skoog Open Friday, Feb. 16, starting at 5 p.m. (EST) in Mount Pleasant, Mich.

Ferris Women Fourth; Men 10th At Division II Challenge

The Ferris State University men's and women's indoor track and field teams competed in the annual NCAA Division II Team Challenge Friday and Saturday (Feb. 2-3), which was hosted by the University of Findlay in Findlay, Ohio.

The Bulldog women's team placed 4th overall of 11 competing teams with 63.50 points. Grand Valley State took the women's title with 160 points while Ashland finished second (108.50 points).

Junior Kamitra Carroll (Flint/Carman-Ainsworth) paced the women's squad as she earned runner-up honors in the shot put (45-4.50) and finished fifth in the weight throw (52-9.25).

Sophomore Krystle Wilson (Detroit/Trinity Catholic) placed third overall in both the 200 and 400 meters with times of 26.45 and 58.86, respectively.

In the 5,000 meters, Ferris captured three of the top five spots as senior Kristen Balla (Farmington) was second (18:33.45), senior Julia Viel (Big Rapids) came in fourth (18:53.81) and sophomore Ashley Lehmann (Grand Rapids/Grandville) finished fifth overall (18:57.33).

Freshman Emily Cross (Riley/Armada) placed in a pair of events as she tied for third place in the high jump (5-5.75) and was fourth in the 60-meter hurdles (9.14).

FSU also came in third in the women's 4x400-meter relay (4:07.15).

The Bulldog men's team finished 10th of 12 teams with 15 points. Grand Valley State also claimed the men's team title with 150.50 points.

Junior Jared Kelsh (Chippewa Lake/Chippewa Hills) was the only men's individual to place among the top five finishers as he won the mile run in a time of 4:17.43.

Ferris' men's team also was fifth in the distance medley relay (10:30.79) and eighth in the 4x400-meter relay (3:36.00).

The Bulldogs will next take part in the Grand Valley State Open Friday, Feb. 9, starting at 4 p.m. (EST) in Allendale, Mich.

Selected Athletes Take Part In Notre Dame Invitational

Selected members of the Ferris State University men's and women's indoor track and field teams took part in the Notre Dame Invitational Friday (Jan. 26) evening in South Bend, Ind.

Junior Kamitra Carroll (Flint/Carman-Ainsworth) captured the women's shot put (45-6.25) and also took sixth place in the weight throw (45-6.25).

Freshman Emily Cross (Riley/Armada) finished fourth in the 60-meter hurdles (9.44) and finished tied for fourth in the high jump (5-5).

Junior Jared Kelsh (Chippewa Lake/Chippewa Hills) placed 12th in the mile run (4:17.33) for the Bulldog men.

The non-scoring event included student-athletes from schools including Notre Dame, Michigan State, Grand Valley State, Marquette, Loyola and West Virginia Wesleyan.

Ferris State next takes part in the annual Division II Team Challenge Friday and Saturday, Feb. 2-3, in Findlay, Ohio. The event begins Friday evening at 8:30 p.m. (EST).

Bulldog Track Teams Compete In Grand Valley State Open

The Ferris State University men's and women's indoor track and field squads competed in the Bob Eubanks Open hosted by Grand Valley State University Friday (Jan. 19) evening in GVSU's Fieldhouse Arena at Allendale, Mich.

The non-scoring event included participants from FSU, GVSU, Aquinas, Olivet, Tri-State (Ind.) along with various unattached student-athletes.

The Bulldog women's squad won three events and posted nine top-two finishes in the competition.

Senior Ashley Farr (Detroit/King) won the 55 meters (7.63) and tied for first place with sophomore teammate Krystle Wilson (Detroit/Trinity Catholic) in the 200 meters as both clocked a time of 26.57 in the event.

Junior Kamitra Carroll (Flint/Carman-Ainsworth) placed first in the shot put (43-5) for FSU.

Ferris also received second-place performances from junior Dia Price (Mt. Morris/Beecher) in the 55 meters (7.71), Wilson in the 400 meters (1:00.38) and senior Kristen Balla (Farmington) in the mile run (5:30.15).

Sophomore Mikinzie Stuart (Saginaw/Nouvel) claimed runner-up kudos in the 3,000 meters (10:22.90) and freshman Emily Cross (Riley/Armada) placed second in the high jump (5-5).

FSU's men's squad was led by sophomore Jared Kelsh (Chippewa Lake/Chippewa Hills), who emerged victorious in both the 800 meters (1:59.13) and the mile run (4:21.40).

Freshman Matt Jozwiak (Berkley) took second place in the 800 meters (2:01.38), sophomore Ray Rollet (South Rockwood/Airport) was third in the mile run (4:30.40) and freshman John Calvert (Lake/Heritage) finished fourth in the shot put (42-2).

Sophomore Phil Doyle (Zeeland) came in fourth in the 400 meters (52.86) while junior Jon Coeling (Hudsonville) placed fourth in both the 55 meters (6.76) and the 200 meters (23.70).

The Bulldog men were third overall in the 4x400-meter relay (3:33.86) and the women's squad also placed third in the same event (4:05.35).

Ferris State will next compete in the Notre Dame Invitational Friday, Jan. 26, beginning at 5:30 p.m. (EST) in South Bend, Ind.

Ferris Opens 2007 Indoor Campaign At CMU Chippewa Open

The Ferris State University men's and women's indoor track and field teams officially opened the 2007 campaign by taking part in the non-scoring Chippewa Open hosted by Central Michigan University Friday (Jan. 12) evening in Mt. Pleasant, Mich.

The annual event was held on CMU's Jack Skoog Track and included student-athletes competing from several institutions including Ferris, CMU, Northwood, Michigan, Michigan State, Detroit Mercy, Spring Arbor, Cornerstone along with unattached individuals.

The Bulldog women's team recorded eight top-five finishes, including a third place performance in the 4x400-meter relay (4:13.07).

Junior Kamitra Carroll (Flint/Carman-Ainsworth) took third-place in the weight throw (51-0.25) along with fourth place in the shot put (43-11.25).

FSU also received a fourth-place effort from freshman Emily Cross (Riley-Armada) in the high jump (5-2.25), a fourth-place finish by senior Chandra Robinson (Warren/Mott) in the 600 meters (1:41.07) and a fifth-place showing from sophomore Mikinzie Stuart (Saginaw/Nouvel) in the mile run (5:16.20).

Sophomore Krystle Wilson (Detroit/Trinity Catholic) was fourth overall in the 400 meters (60.71) in addition to fifth in the 200 meters (26.80) for Ferris State.

FSU's men's squad was led by sophomore Jared Kelsh's (Chippewa Lake/Chippewa Hills) sixth-place showing in the 800 meters (1:59.01). Sophomore Ray Rollet (South Rockwood/Airport) placed ninth in the same event (2:04.86).

Freshman Joe Leppek (Goodrich) finished sixth in the pole vault (11-5.75), sophomore Greg Turrell (Marysville) came in eighth in the weight throw (45-6.50) and freshman Dan Volk (Rockford) took eighth place in the 600 meters (1:26.91).

Freshman Matt Jozwiak (Berkley) wound up ninth in the 600 meters (1:26.92), freshman Joe Myers (Gaylord, Mich./Johanesburg-Lewiston) was ninth in the long jump (15-3.50) and the Bulldogs took 10th place in the men's 4x400-meter relay (3:35.82).

Ferris State returns to action Friday, Jan. 19, at the Grand Valley State Open, which will be held starting at 4 p.m. (EST) inside GVSU's Fieldhouse Arena at Allendale, Mich.
