Selected Bulldog Athletes Compete In North Central (Ill.) Invitational

The Ferris State University outdoor track and field teams sent selected members to the North Central (Ill.) Dr. Keeler Invitational Thursday and Friday, May 11-12, in Naperville, Ill.

No team scores were kept as this was a "last chance" meet or a final attempt for athletes to qualify for nationals.

The meet included student-athletes from a variety of NCAA Division I, II and III institutions.

Junior Ashley Farr (Detroit/King) won the 400 meters (57.94) while sophomore Kamitra Carroll (Flint/Carman-Ainsworth) captured the shot put (44-0.75) for Ferris State.

Senior Jenny Irwin (Scottville/Mason County Central) took second place in the 800 meters (2:08.95).

Qualifers and final meet competitors for the NCAA-II Outdoor Track and Field Championships slated for May 25-27 in Emporia, Kan., will be announced later this week.

Ferris Concludes Action In GLIAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships

The Ferris State University men's and women's outdoor track and field teams wrapped up action in the 2006 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Championships held Thursday and Friday (May 4-5) at FSU's Top Taggart Field in Big Rapids, Mich.

The Bulldog women placed sixth overall of 10 teams competing with 75 points while the men's squad was ninth with 17 points in the home event. Grand Valley State captured both the women's and men's crowns with 269 and 255 points, respectively.

FSU senior Jenny Irwin (Scottville/Mason County Central) claimed the GLIAC Most Valuable Running Event Athlete Award in the women's competition as she won two individual events and received one runner-up finish.

Irwin took the 800 meters as she clocked 2:11.44 in Friday's (May 5) final round and also emerged victorious in the 1,500 meters (4:39.93). She placed second in the 3,000 meters (10:08.63). All three times were NCAA-II National Provisional Qualification marks.

Junior Ashley Farr (Detroit/King) was second in the 400 meters (57.99) and placed seventh in the 200 meters (26.23).

Sophomore Kamitra Carroll (Flint/Carman-Ainsworth) received runner-up kudos in the shot put (45-11.75) and was eighth in the hammer throw (154-3).

Senior Leanna Wolf (Fountain/Mason County Central) came in third overall in the 800 meters (2:13.63) while sophomore Chandra Robinson (Warren/Mott) took eighth place (2:21.37) in the same event.

Freshman Mikinzie Stuart (Saginaw/Nouvel) earned fifth-place honors in the 1,500 meters (4:47.99), sophomore Dia Price (Mt. Morris/Beecher) was fifth in the triple jump (35-8.50) and junior Elizabeth Engle (Colon) placed eighth in the javelin (101-6).

Ferris State also finished second in the women's 4x400-meter relay (3:51.47) while surpassing the national provisional qualifying mark.

Sophomore Joe Mielke (Westland/Franklin) led the men's squad with a second-place effort in the high jump (6-6.75). He was also fifth in the long jump (21-2.50).

Sophomore Jared Kelsh (Chippewa Lake/Chippewa Hills) took seventh place in the 1,500 meters (4:04.89).

Junior Kyle Schuberg (Big Rapids) came in eighth in the 200 meters (22.38) and Ferris was also seventh in the men's 4x400-meter relay (3:28.82).

Senior Sarah Duesing (Sault Ste. Marie/Sault Area) contributed four points to the Bulldog women's total with her fifth-place finish in the GLIAC Heptathlon, which took place as part of the Hillsdale "Gina" Relays last week (April 27-29) in Hillsdale, Mich.

Both Ferris State teams will send representatives to the North Central (Ill.) Dr. Keeler Invitational Thursday and Friday, May 11-12, in Naperville, Ill.

FSU Opens Action At Home In GLIAC Championships

The Ferris State University men's and women's outdoor track and field teams opened action in the 2006 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Championships Thursday (May 4) at FSU's Top Taggart Field in Big Rapids, Mich.

Both the Ferris men's and women's teams reside in eighth place heading into Friday's (May 5) final day of competition. The field events will start at 11 a.m. (EDT) and the track events at 12 p.m. (EDT) before the awards ceremony rounds out the event at 3:45 p.m. (EDT).

The Bulldog women totaled 10 points in their 10-team field while the men's squad netted eight points. Grand Valley State holds the first-day lead in both the women's and men's divisions with 111 and 73 points, respectively after seven events have been scored.

Sophomore Dia Price (Mt. Morris/Beecher) placed fifth in the triple jump (35-8.50), sophomore Kamitra Carroll (Flint/Carman-Ainsworth) finished eighth in the hammer throw (154-3) and junior Elizabeth Engle (Colon) earned eighth-place honors in the javelin (101-6) for the Bulldog women.

Senior Jenny Irwin (Scottville/Mason County Central) posted the fastest preliminary qualifying time in the 800 meters (2:12.98) for FSU while senior Leanna Wolf (Fountain/Mason County Central) notched the second-best effort (2:16.41) in the same event. Irwin also recorded the top performance in the 1,500-meter run (4:48.70) prelims.

Junior Ashley Farr (Detroit/King) had the second-fastest mark in the opening round of the 400 meters (58.25) to advance to Friday's finals.

Sophomore Joe Mielke (Westland/Franklin) claimed second-place overall in the high jump (6-6.75) to lead the Ferris men's team.

Sophomore Jared Kelsh (Chippewa Lake/Chippewa Hills) won his heat and had the second-best preliminary performance in the men's 1,500 meters (4:07.70).

Junior Kyle Schuberg (Big Rapids) advanced to the finals in the men's 200 meters with the seventh-fastest qualifying mark (22.28) on Thursday.

Admission to the final day of the GLIAC Championships is $5 for adults and $3 for students.

Bulldogs Wrap Up Action In Hillsdale "Gina" Relays

The Ferris State University men's and women's outdoor track and field teams took part in the Hillsdale "Gina" Relays held Friday and Saturday (April 28-29) on HC's Ken Herrick Track inside Muddy Waters Stadium at Hillsdale, Mich.

The 40th annual event included student-athletes from more than 40 collegiate programs from five different states along with Canada.

Senior Jenny Irwin (Scottville/Mason County Central) captured the women's 3,000-meter run (9:43.87) for FSU.

Sophomore Kamitra Carroll (Flint/Carman-Ainsworth) was fourth overall in the shot put (45-4.25).

Junior Ashley Farr (Detroit/King) placed eighth overall in the 400 meters (57.28) and senior Leanna Wolf (Fountain/Mason County Central) took eighth place in the 800 meters (2:15.30).

Sophomore Joe Mielke (Westland/Franklin) tied for fifth place in the high jump (6-6.25) for the Ferris men's squad.

In addition, senior Sarah Duesing (Sault Ste. Marie/Sault Area) placed fifth overall in the women's heptathlon (3,363 points) at the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Multi's, which were held in conjunction with the Gina Relays.

Ferris State will host the GLIAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships Thursday and Friday, May 4-5, at FSU's Top Taggart Field in Big Rapids, Mich. Opening day action begins Thursday (May 4) at 3 p.m. (EDT).

Ferris Student-Athletes Compete In Two Different Weekend Meets

The Ferris State University men's and women's outdoor track and field teams sent representatives to two different meets this past Saturday (April 22). The Bulldogs had student-athletes competing in both the Northwood Invitational in Midland, Mich., along with the Central Collegiate Championships/EMU Twilight hosted by Eastern Michigan University in Ypsilanti.

The meet at Eastern Michigan's Olds-Marshall Track included athletes from EMU, Notre Dame, Michigan, Michigan State, Toledo, Detroit, Findlay, Valparaiso, Saginaw Valley State, Oakland, Spring Arbor and Siena Heights among others. No team scores were kept involving Ferris State.

FSU senior Jenny Irwin (Scottville/Mason County Central) guided the Bulldogs in the Eastern Michigan meet as she captured first-place honors in the 1,500 meters (4:24.13). Junior Ashley Farr (Detroit/King) was fifth overall in the 400 meters (56.86) as six different FSU squad members competed in the meet.

In the Northwood Invitational, sophomore Kamitra Carroll (Flint/Carman-Ainsworth) won the shot put (43-2.50) in leading the remaining Ferris State team members. No team scoring was kept in the event, which included participants from schools such as Aquinas, NU, Northern Michigan, SVSU, Central Michigan and Lansing Community College on NU's Fisher Track at Hantz Stadium.

Freshman Jenelle Keinath (Millington/Valley Lutheran) claimed second place in the 3,000 meters (10:44.55), junior Jennifer Walsh (Wyoming/Kellogsville) was second in the 100-meter hurdles (16.08) and sophomore Dia Price (Mt. Morris/Beecher) finished second in the high jump (5-2).

Junior Larenda Hintz (Kingsford) placed third in the 400-meter hurdles (1:06.61) and senior Jessica Gladding (Fenwick/Central Montcalm) came in third overall in the hammer throw (143-0).

Price took fourth place in the 200 meters (26.04) and freshman Ashley Lehmann (Grand Rapids/Granville) finished fourth in the 5,000 meters (19:23.41).

Ferris also was second in the women's 4x100-meter relay (50.28). Both the men's and women's 4x400-meter relays and the women's discus at Northwood were not completed as the meet was called due to thunderstorm activity late in the day.

In the women's discus, FSU freshman Rebecca Shields (West Muskegon/Whitehall) was leading the competition (118-8), junior Sonya White (Allegan) was in second place overall (103-11) and sophomore Anna Barrington (Jonesville) was fourth (100-6) when the event was called.

Junior Barrington Dykes (Greenville) placed third in the 5,000 meters (16:27.48) and sophomore Jared Kelsh (Chippewa Lake/Chippewa Hills) finished fourth in the 1,500 meters (4:01.98) for the men's squad.

The Bulldogs will next compete in the annual Hillsdale "Gina" Relays Friday and Saturday, April 28-29, in Hillsdale, Mich. In addition, senior Sarah Duesing (Sault Ste. Marie/Sault Area) will take part in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Multi's (Decathlon/Heptathlon), which will be held in conjunction with the Gina Relays on Thursday and Friday, April 27-28, on HC's Ken Herrick Track.

The league multi events begin Thursday at 3 p.m. (EDT) and continue Friday beginning at 9 a.m. (EDT). The rest of the "Gina" Relays meet will kick off with field events Friday at 12 p.m. (EDT). Saturday's final day of action begins at 10 a.m. (EDT).

Bulldog Women Place First, Men Seventh At Saginaw Valley State Meet

The Ferris State University men's and women's outdoor track and field teams continued their season by taking part in the Saginaw Valley State Outdoor Collegiate Invitational held Saturday (April 15) at SVSU's Morley Field in University Center, Mich.

The Bulldogs women's squad compiled 13 top-four meet performances en route to winning the overall team championship with 137 points. Twleve teams recorded points in the women's division with Aquinas taking second place (129 points) and the host Cardinals finishing third (125.50).

FSU's men's squad netted eight top-six efforts while coming in seventh overall with 44 points. The men's division featured 20 different schools posting at least a single point and was captured by Saginaw Valley State with 204 points. Northwood took second place (95) and Aquinas was third (66.50).

Junior Ashley Farr (Detroit/King) won the 200 meters (25.50) and placed third in the 100 meters (12.66) for the women's squad.

Senior Jenny Irwin (Scottville/Mason County Central) recorded an NCAA-II National Provisional Qualifying mark in winning the 800 meters (2:11.85). Sophomore Kamitra Carroll (Flint/Carman-Ainsworth) also met the provisional standard by finishing first in the shot put (45-5).

Junior Julia Viel (Big Rapids) earned runner-up honors in the 10,000 meters (40:49.59), senior Jessica Gladding (Fenwick/Central Montcalm) was second in the discus (125-2) and senior Leanna Wolf (Fountain/Mason County Central) came in third overall in the 400 meters (59.57).

Sophomore Dia Price (Mt. Morris/Beecher) took third place in the high jump (5-2), Carroll finished fourth in the hammer throw (141-7.50), freshman Ashley Lehmann (Grand Rapids/Grandville) was fourth in the 3,000 meters (11:20.55) and junior Elizabeth Engle (Colon) placed fourth in the 100-meter hurdles (16.09).

Ferris also won the women's 4x400-meter relay (3:58.97) and received fourth-place kudos in the 4x100-meter relay (51.04).

The men's squad was led by sophomore Joe Mielke (Westland/Franklin), who won the high jump (6-8). He also finished second in the long jump (20-7.50).

Junior Kyle Schuberg (Big Rapids) took third place in the long jump (20-2.50) and was sixth in the 100 meters (11.27).

Sophomore Chad Menefee (Sand Lake/Cedar Springs) finished fourth in the 400-meter hurdles (1:00.74), sophomore Phil Doyle (Zeeland) placed sixth in the 400 meters (51.27), sophomore Ray Rollet (South Rockwood/Airport) was sixth in the 1,500 meters (4:12.03) and sophomore Greg Turrell (Marysville) took sixth place in the shot put (43-0.50).

Ferris State will next take part in the Northwood Invitational Saturday, April 22, in Midland, Mich. The event begins at 11 a.m. (EDT). Selected members will also compete in the Central Collegiate Championships hosted by Eastern Michigan the same afternoon beginning at 12 p.m. (EDT) in Ypsilanti, Mich.

Bulldogs Compete In Annual Home Invitational At Top Taggart Field

The Ferris State University men's and women's outdoor track and field teams hosted the annual Bulldog Invitational Saturday (April 8) at FSU's Top Taggart Field in Big Rapids, Mich.

The non-scoring meet included nearly 560 competing student-athletes from 11 schools along with unattached participants. Among the teams taking part were FSU, Grand Valley State, Northwood, Saginaw Valley State, Michigan Tech, Lake Superior State, Cornerstone, Calvin and Aquinas.

Junior Ashley Farr (Detroit/King) captured the 200 meters (25.40) and the 400 meters (58.93) for the Bulldog women's squad.

Senior Leanna Wolf (Fountain/Mason County Central) emerged victorious in the 800 meters (2:18.56), senior Jenny Irwin (Scottville/Mason County Central) won the 3,000 meters (9:51.21) and sophomore Kamitra Caroll (Flint/Carman-Ainsworth) took the shot put (45-8).

Sophomore Chandra Robinson (Warren/Mott) placed third in the 800 meters (2:19.47), sophomore Dia Price (Mt. Morris/Beecher) tied for third place in the high jump (5-2) and junior Larenda Hintz (Kingsford) finished fourth in the 400-meter hurdles (1:07.52).

Sophomore Anna Barrington (Jonesville) was fourth in the hammer throw (136-9) while Ferris State also took first place in the women's 4x400-meter relay (3:58.93).

Sophomore Joe Mielke (Westland/Franklin) earned first-place honors in the high jump (6-10.25) to lead FSU.

Junior Kyle Schuberg (Big Rapids) placed second in the 200 meters (22.38) and third in the 100 meters (11.23) for FSU.

Sophomore Greg Turrell (Marysville) tied for third place in the shot put (46-1.25) and sophomore Jared Kelsh (Chippewa Lake/Chippewa Hills) finished fourth in the 1,500 meters (4:05.16).

Ferris State will next take part in the Saginaw Valley State Invitational Saturday, April 15, in University Center, Mich. The meet is set to begin at 11 a.m. (EDT).

Bulldogs Open 2006 Outdoor Campaign At Saint Joseph's (Ind.)

The Ferris State University men's and women's track and field teams opened the 2006 outdoor season Saturday (April 1) by taking part in the Gene and Rose Edmonds Invitational hosted by Saint Joseph's (Ind.) in Rensselaer, Ind.

The women's squad took second in the five-team field with 146 points as the host Pumas placed first with 183 points. Saginaw Valley State came in third (116 points), Marian (Ind.) was fourth (106) and Indianapolis fifth (51) in the women's team race.

The Bulldog men's squad was fifth overall with 48 points among the six teams competing in their field. SVSU was first (230), Saint Joseph's second (146), Wabash (Ind.) third (56) and Indianapolis fourth (52). Marian rounded out the field with 38 points.

Junior Ashley Farr (Detroit/King) won the 200 meters (25.96), senior Leanna Wolf (Foutain/Mason County Central) placed first in the 400 meters (59.21) and junior Julia Viel (Big Rapids) emerged victorious in the 3,000 meters (11:02.49) for the women's squad. All three individuals set meet records in winning their respective events.

Sophomore Kamitra Carroll (Flint/Carman-Ainsworth) won the shot put (47-11.25), placed second in the hammer throw (146-9) and took third place in the discus (125-11).

Sophomore Chandra Robinson (Warren/Mott) captured runner-up accolades in the 400 meters (1:00.04), freshman Mikinzie Stuart (Saginaw/Nouvel) took second place in the 1,500 meters (4:48.84) and junior Jennifer Walsh (Wyoming/Kelloggsville) came in third overall in the 100-meter hurdles (16.66).

Freshman Jenelle Keinath (Millington/Valley Lutheran) finished third in the 1,500 meters (5:10.19), freshman Ashley Lehmann (Grand Rapids/Grandville) was third in the 3,000 meters (11:18.60) while junior Larenda Hintz (Kingsford) placed third in the 100-meter hurdles (16.75).

Sophomore Dia Price (Mt. Morris/Beecher) claimed runner-up honors in the triple jump (33-8.75) and was third in the high jump (5-0).

Ferris also won the women's 4x400-meter relay (4:04.16) and took fourth place in the 4x100-meter relay (51.49).

Sophomore Phil Doyle (Zeeland) placed second in the 400 meters (50.95) and sophomore Joe Mielke (Westland/Franklin) picked up runner-up laurels in the long jump (21-9.50) while leading the FSU men's squad.

Junior Kyle Schuberg (Big Rapids) took fourth place in both the 200 meters (22.92) and the long jump (20-8). He also was fifth in the javelin (145-8).

Senior Corey Peyerk (Marysville) was fourth in the 400 meters (51.85) and freshman Dan Volk (Rockford) placed fourth in the 800 meters (2:01.58).

Sophomore Jared Kelsh (Chippewa Lake/Chippewa Hills) finished fifth in the 5,000 meters (15:49.37), sophomore Ray Rollet (South Rockwood/Airport) was fifth in the 800 meters (2:02.75) and freshman Chris Moses (Hamilton) took fifth place in the 400 meters (51.88).

Ferris also captured fourth place in the men's 4x100-meter relay (45.15).

Ferris State hosts the annual Bulldog Invitational Saturday, April 8, at FSU's Top Taggart Field in Big Rapids, Mich. The field events are set to begin at 11 a.m. (EDT) with the track events starting at 12 p.m. (EDT).

Ferris Brings Home All-America Honors In Three Events From National Meet

The Ferris State University men's and women's track and field program brought home All-America honors in three different events from the NCAA Division II Indoor Track and Field Championships held Friday and Saturday (March 10-11) at the Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Center in Boston, Mass.

The Bulldog contigent competing at the national meet included seniors Jenny Irwin (Scottville/Mason County Central) and Leanna Wolf (Fountain/Mason County Central) along with sophomores Chandra Robinson (Warren/Mott), Kamitra Carroll (Flint/Carman-Ainsworth), Joe Mielke (Westland/Franklin) and freshman Mikinzie Stuart (Saginaw/Nouvel).

A total of 400 student-athletes qualified for the meet by reaching the automatic or provisional standards established for each event. Stonehill College and the Reggie Lewis Center at Roxbury Community College are serving as hosts of the championships. The top eight finishers in each event earned All-America recognition.

Irwin earned All-America laurels with a fourth-place overall finish in the mile run as she turned in a time of 4:49.13 in Saturday's final round. She previously posted the sixth-highest qualifying time with a 5:00.81 in Friday's preliminary competition.

Mielke, too, earned All-America recognition as he finished fourth in the high jump with a leap of 6-11 in Saturday's event.

In day one action on Friday, Ferris netted one point as the school's distance medley relay team of Wolf, Stuart, Robinson and Irwin placed eighth overall in a time of 11:50.40 to earn All-America accolades. Wolf, Irwin and Robinson were part of a Bulldog contingent which also placed eighth nationally a year ago.

Wolf clocked 2:16.00 in finishing 12th overall in the preliminary round of the 800 meters on Friday. Carroll took 11th in the shot put competition with a toss of 45-2.50 in Friday's final round of the event.

The Bulldog women totaled six points at the national meet while the men's squad compiled five points with Mielke's performance.

Mielke was the first male performer to represent Ferris State at the national meet since the program was reinstated in 1999. Former Bulldog competitor Chad Smith was the most recent member of the men's program to attain All-America recognition when he took third place in the decathlon at the 1993 NCAA-II Outdoor Championships.

The Ferris State women had eight individual All-America indoor performances in school history along with two top-eight showings in relay events prior to this season's national meet. The school's most recent indoor All-America individual showings before this campaign came in 2002 when former student-athletes Katie Chapman (800 meters), Morgan Buckner (60-meter hurdles) and Tianna Kirkland (shot put) all placed among the top eight individuals.

Robinson, Wolf and Irwin joined former Bulldog runner Geneva Jones to pick up indoor All-America accolades last campaign with a eighth-place performance (11:56.52) in the distance medley relay at the national meet (3/11-12/05) held inside the Reggie Lewis Center.

Women Fifth, Men Eighth At GLIAC Indoor Championships

The Ferris State University men's and women's indoor track and field teams took part in the 2005-06 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Indoor Track and Field Championships Friday and Saturday (Feb. 24-25) in Findlay, Ohio.

The league meet was hosted by the University of Findlay and held in UF's Malcolm Athletics Center.

The Bulldog women's team placed fifth of nine competing teams with 59.50 points while the men's squad finished eighth in the eight-team field with 28 total points.

Grand Valley State captured both the women's and men's titles with 181.50 and 184 points, respectively.

Senior Jenny Irwin (Scottville/Mason County Central) won the 3,000 meters (9:59.86) in a meet-record time and earned runner-up honors in the mile run (4:49.40) while leading the women's squad.

Sophomore Kamitra Carroll (Flint/Carman-Ainsworth) claimed the shot put title with a first-place toss of 47-6.25 in the event.

Senior Leanna Wolf (Fountain/Mason County Central) received third-place honors in the 800 meters (2:13.61), senior Sarah Duesing (Sault Ste. Marie/Sault Area) tied for fourth place in the high jump (5-1.25) and junior Ashley Farr (Detroit/King) placed fifth in the 200 meters (25.81). Freshman Mikinzie Stuart (Saginaw/Nouvel) finished seventh in the mile run (5:09.52) for FSU.

The Bulldog tandem of Irwin, Wolf, Stuart and sophomore Chandra Robinson (Warren/Mott) captured first-place in the distance medley relay (11:43.53) as they set a new meet and fieldhouse record. Ferris also took sixth place in the women's 4x400-meter relay (3:59.18).

Sophomore Joe Mielke (Westland/Franklin) earned runner-up accolades in the high jump (6-10.25) to pace the men's squad.

Junior Kyle Schuberg (Big Rapids) placed third in the long jump (21-6.25) and finished fifth in the 200 meters (22.99). Freshman Joe Myers (Gaylord, Mich./Johanesburg-Lewiston) came in sixth during the long jump (20-4.50) competition.

Ferris was fourth in the men's distance medley relay (10:27.08) and seventh overall in the men's 4x400-meter relay (3:29.19).

Mielke (high jump), Wolf (800 meters), Carroll (shot put), Irwin (800 meters & mile run) along with the women's distance medley relay team have all reached national provisional or automatic qualification marks in their respective events for the NCAA-II National Championships slated to be held March 10-11 at the Reggie Lewis Center in Boston, Mass. The final list of national meet competitors will be announced later this week.

Ferris Wins Four Events In CMU Jack Skoog Open

The Ferris State University men's and women's indoor track and field teams took part in the Central Michigan Jack Skoog Open Friday, Feb. 17, in Mount Pleasant, Mich.

The annual non-scoring event was held at CMU's Jack Skoog Indoor Track facility and included participants from a variety of schools including FSU, Central Michigan, Alma, Northwood, Michigan Tech, Saginaw Valley State, Lake Superior State and Oakland.

Senior Jenny Irwin (Scottville/Mason County Central) won the 800 meters (2:11.76) for the Bulldogs as Ferris State captured four individual first-place finishes in the women's competition.

Freshman Jenelle Keinath (Millington/Valley Lutheran) placed first in the 3,000 meters (10:51.26) and sophomore Kamitra Carroll (Flint/Carman-Ainsworth) won the shot put (47-4.50).

Senior Sarah Duesing (Sault Ste. Marie/Sault Area) and sophomore Dia Price (Mt. Morris/Beecher) both tied for second place in the high jump (5-4.25).

Freshman Mikinzie Stuart (Saginaw/Nouvel) captured second place in the mile run (5:14.99), junior Larenda Hintz (Kingsford) took second place in the 600 meters (1:42.02) and senior Leanna Wolf (Fountain/Mason County Central) finished third in the 800 meters (2:14.69).

Junior Ashley Farr (Detroit/King) took fourth place overall in the 400 meters (59.38), Duesing was fourth in the 600 meters (1:55.39) and freshman Ashley Lehmann (Grand Rapids/Grandville) came in fourth overall in the 3,000 meters (11:12.27).

Junior Jennifer Walsh (Wyoming/Kellogsville) placed fourth in the 60-meter hurdles (9.52) while Price took fourth place in the triple jump (33-10.75)

FSU also took first place in the 4x400-meter relay as the tandem of Farr, Wolf, freshman Krystle Wilson (Detroit/Trinity Catholic) and sophomore Chandra Robinson (Warren/Mott) clocked 4:05.66 in the event.

Sophomore Joe Mielke (Westland/Franklin) claimed runner-up honors in the high jump (6-9.75) for the Ferris State men's team.

Junior Kyle Schuberg (Big Rapids) was second in the long jump (21-1.25) along with fourth overall in the 200 meters (22.97).

Sophomore Adam Brown (McMillan/Newberry) finished fourth in the pole vault (14-6) and freshman Joe Myers (Gaylord, Mich./Johanesburg-Lewiston) was fourth in the long jump (20-3.75).

Ferris also was second in the men's 4x400-meter relay (3:30.84).

The Bulldogs will compete in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Indoor Track and Field Championships Friday and Saturday, Feb. 24-25, in Findlay, Ohio. The league meet, which will be hosted by the University of Findlay, is set for a 5 p.m. (EST) start on Friday.

Ferris Teams Take Part In Grand Valley State Open

The Ferris State University men's and women's indoor track and field teams took part in the Grand Valley State Open Friday, Feb. 10, in GVSU's Fieldhouse Arena at Allendale, Mich.

The non-scoring field included participants from a variety of schools including FSU, GVSU, Western Michigan, Aquinas and Hope among others.

The Bulldog women's squad registered eight top-four performances while the men's squad netted five such efforts.

Senior Leanna Wolf (Fountain/Mason County Central) won the 400 meters (1:00.57) while sophomore Chandra Robinson (Warren/Mott) captured runner-up kudos in the same event (1:00.85). Freshman Mikinzie Stuart (Saginaw/Nouvel) claimed second place in the 800 meters (2:21.77).

Junior Ashley Farr (Detroit/King) took second place in the 200 meters (26.87) and fourth place in the 55 meters (7.52) for FSU. Sophomore Dia Price (Mt. Morris/Beecher) earned fourth place in the triple jump (34-2) while sophomore Anna Barrington (Jonesville) was fourth in the shot put (38-6.75).

Ferris State also placed second in the 4x400-meter relay as Wolf, Robinson, Farr and freshman Krystle Wilson (Detroit/Trinity Catholic) clocked 4:05.16 in the event.

Sophomore Joe Mielke (Westland/Franklin) led the men's squad as he won the high jump (6-8).

Junior Kyle Schuberg (Big Rapids) took second place in the 200 meters (23.05), sophomore Phil Doyle (Zeeland) finished third in the 400 meters (51.37) and freshman Dan Volk (Rockford) was fourth in the 800 meters (2:00.34). Schuberg also came in third overall in the long jump (21-11.50).

FSU placed fifth in the men's 4x400-meter relay (3:36.04).

Ferris State will next take part in the Central Michigan Jack Skoog Indoor Open Friday, Feb. 17, beginning at 5 p.m. (EST) in Mount Pleasant, Mich.

Ferris Women Third, Men Eighth In Annual Division II Team Challenge

The Ferris State University men's and women's indoor track and field teams took part in the annual Division II Team Challenge Friday and Saturday, Feb. 3-4, in University Center, Mich.

The event, which was hosted by Saginaw Valley State and held inside SVSU's Ryder Center, featured nine participating men's teams and 10 women's squads.

The Bulldog women placed third in the field with 83 points while the men took eighth place with 41 points. The event is sponsored annually by the United States Track and Field Coaches Association.

Host Saginaw Valley State won both the women's and men's fields with 111 and 118.50 points, respectively.

Senior Jenny Irwin (Scottville/Mason County Central) set a new meet record in winning the 3,000 meters (9:56.36), which included 23 participants.

Senior Leanna Wolf (Fountain/Mason County Central) captured first place among 17 competitiors in the 800 meters (2:16.23) as she posted an NCAA Division II National Provisional qualification mark.

Junior Ashley Farr (Detroit/King) placed second in the 400 meters (59.75), freshman Mikinzie Stuart (Saginaw/Nouvel) earned runner-up honors in the mile run (5:14.91) and senior Sarah Duesing (Sault Ste. Marie/Sault Area) finished second in the high jump (5-2).

Junior Julia Viel (Big Rapids) took third place in the 5,000 meters (19:14.16), freshman Krystle Wilson (Detriot/Trinity Catholic) finished fourth in the 400 meters (1:00.35) and junior Larenda Hintz (Kingsford) placed fifth in the 60-meter hurdles (9.48).

The Ferris State quartet of Irwin, Wolf, Stuart and sophomore Chandra Robinson (Warren/Mott) also won the women's distance medley relay in an arena record and NCAA-II provisional qualifying time of 12:00.45 in the event. FSU also took second place in the women's 4x400-meter relay (4:04.62).

Sophomore Joe Mielke (Westland/Franklin) posted a new meet record in winning the men's high jump (6-10), which is also an NCAA provisional qualifying performance.

Junior Kyle Schuberg (Big Rapids) claimed second place in the 200 meters (22.95) and finished third in the long jump (21-10.75).

Freshman Joe Myers (Gaylord/Johanesburg-Lewiston) placed sixth in the long jump (20-7), sophomore Phil Doyle (Zeeland) was seventh in the 400 meters (51.78) and sophomore Jared Kelsh (Chippewa Lake/Chippewa Hills) finished seventh in the mile run (4:27.59).

Ferris was third in the men's distance medley relay (10:33.92) and seventh in the men's 4x400-meter relay (3:37.28).

The Bulldogs will take part in the Grand Valley State Open Friday, Feb. 10, beginning at 5 p.m. (EST) in GVSU's Fieldhouse Arena at Allendale, Mich.

Selected Student-Athletes Compete In Notre Dame Invitational

Five Ferris State University men's and women's indoor track and field athletes took part in the Notre Dame Invitational Friday (Jan. 27) in South Bend, Ind.

The non-scoring meet, which was held at the Loftus Sports Center, included student-athletes from a variety of schools including Notre Dame, Marquette, Grand Valley State and Loyola of Chicago.

Senior Jenny Irwin (Scottville/Mason County Central) placed first among 16 competitors in the women's one mile run as she clocked 4:54.71 in the event to better her own school record. Freshman Mikinzie Stuart (Saginaw/Nouvel) took 13th place (5:20.11) in the same event.

Sophomore Joe Mielke (Westland/Franklin) recorded a first-place effort (6-11.50) in the men's high jump, which ranks as the third-best indoor performance in Bulldog history.

Junior Kyle Schuberg (Big Rapids) finished sixth in the men's 200 meters (22.80) while senior Leanna Wolf (Fountain/Mason County Central) earned sixth-place recognition in the women's 800 meters (2:15.76). Wolf's time presently is listed fifth among the program's all-time top five indoor performances in the event.

The Bulldogs will next take part in the Division II Team Challenge slated for Friday and Saturday, Feb. 3-4, in University Center, Mich. The meet, which will be hosted by Saginaw Valley State, begins at 5 p.m. (EST) the first day.

Bulldogs Compete In Annual Mike Lints Laker Open At GVSU

The Ferris State University men's and women's indoor track and field teams competed in the annual Grand Valley State Mike Lints Laker Open Friday, Jan. 20, in Allendale, Mich. The meet was held in GVSU's Fieldhouse Arena.

The Bulldog women's team won two events and claimed four second-place finishes in the non-scoring event, which included participants from Ferris, GVSU, Olivet, Northwood, Tri-State and various unattached student-athletes.

Senior Jenny Irwin (Scottville/Mason County Central) led the Bulldogs by winning the 800 meters (2:14.67) in a NCAA-II National Provisional Qualifying time.

Sophomore Allison Schultz (Bridgman) took second place in the 55 meters (7.80), senior Leanna Wolf (Fountain/Mason County Central) claimed runner-up honors in the 800 meters (2:18.22) and senior Sarah Duesing (Sault Ste. Marie/Sault Area) finished second in the long jump (15-10). Senior Jessica Gladding (Fenwick/Central Montcalm) received runner-up recognition in the shot put (37-11.25).

Freshman Lauren Rose (Lake Orion) placed third in the 55 meters (7.95), junior Ashley Farr (Detroit/King) finished third in the 400 meters (1:00.21) and freshman Mikinzie Stuart (Saginaw/Nouvel) was third in the mile run (5:24.61). Sophomore Anna Barrington (Jonesville) took third place in the shot put (37-7.75) while junior Sonya White (Allegan) claimed third place kudos in the weight throw (46-10.75).

Sophomore Chandra Robinson (Warren/Mott) came in fourth overall in the 800 meters (2:27.30), sophomore Dia Price (Mt. Morris/Beecher) placed fourth in the high jump (5-0) and junior Larenda Hintz (Kingsford) took fourth place in the 55-meter hurdles (9.01).

The Ferris group of Farr, Robinson, freshman Krystle Wilson (Detroit/Trinity Catholic) and Wolf also teamed up to win the women's 4x400-meter relay (4:05.41).

The men's squad had one individual champion and five top-four performances in the annual event.

Sophomore Joe Mielke (Westland/Franklin) posted a personal-best in winning the high jump (6-10.50), which also ranks as the third-best indoor performance in school history.

Junior Kyle Schuberg (Big Rapids) received runner-up laurels in the long jump (21-10.50), sophomore Ray Rollet (South Rockwood/Airport) placed second in the 800 meters (2:01.75) and sophomore Jared Kelsh (Chippewa Lake/Chippewa Hills) took third place in the 3,000 meters (9:02.28).

Freshman Daniel Volk (Rockford) finished fourth in the 800 meters (2:05.88).

Ferris State was seventh in the men's 4x400-meter relay (3:39.87).

Friday's meet was the second of FSU's five regular-season outings prior to the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Indoor Track and Field Championships slated to be held Feb. 24-25 in Findlay, Ohio.

Ferris State Opens Indoor Track Season At CMU's Chippewa Open

The Ferris State University men's and women's indoor track and field teams opened the 2005-06 campaign Friday (Jan. 13) evening by taking part in the Central Michigan Chippewa Open at CMU's Jack Skoog Indoor Track in Mount Pleasant, Mich. The non-scoring meet featured participants from CMU, Ferris, Cornerstone and Michigan State.

Freshman Mikinzie Stuart (Saginaw/Nouvel) won the 800 meters (2:24.29) while sophomore Kamitra Carroll (Flint/Carman-Ainsworth) captured the shot put (48-4) for the Bulldog women's team. Carroll's toss bettered her own school record and surpassed the NCAA Division II Provisional Qualifying standard in the event.

Sophomore Dia Price (Mt. Morris/Beecher) took second place in the triple jump (32-8.25), freshman Jenelle Keinath (Millington/Valley Lutheran) placed third in the 3,000 meters (11:10.48) and sophomore Chandra Robinson (Warren/Mott) finished third in the 600 meters (1:43.38).

Junior Sonya White (Allegan) received fourth-place honors in the weight throw (46-2.75), junior Ashley Farr (Detroit/King) placed fifth in the 200 meters (26.49), senior Leanna Wolf (Fountain/Mason County Central) was fifth in the 400 meters (61.16) and sophomore Jackie Green (Portage/Nortern) captured fifth-place in the 3,000 meters (11:26.20).

FSU also earned runner-up honors in the women's 4x400-meter relay (4:06.28).

Sophomore Joe Mielke (Westland/Franklin) emerged victorious in the high jump (6-8) to lead the men's squad. Sophomore Chad Menefee (Sand Lake/Cedar Springs) finished third in the 60-meter hurdles (9.36) and junior Kyle Schuberg (Big Rapids) took third place in the long jump (21-4.25).

In the men's 200 meters, FSU took three of the top five spots as Schuberg was third (23.13), sophomore Phil Doyle (Zeeland) finished fourth (23.62) and freshman Chris Moses (Hamilton) took fifth place (24.22).

Senior Corey Peyerk (Marysville) was fourth in the 400 meters (56.56) while freshman Joe Periord (Saline) placed fifth in the same event (56.58). Sophomore Greg Turrell (Marysville) finished fifth in the shot put (40-0.75) along with fifth in the weight throw (43-1).

Ferris was fourth overall in the men's 4x400-meter relay (3:34.95).

The Bulldogs will next take part in the Grand Valley State Mike Lints Laker Open Friday, Jan. 20, beginning at 5 p.m. (EST) inside GVSU's Fieldhouse Arena at Allendale, Mich.
