Nov. 8: Bulldogs Conclude Season With 20th Place Finish At Regional Championships

The Ferris State men’s cross country team concluded the 2003 campaign by taking part in the NCAA Division II Great Lakes Regional Championships Saturday (Nov. 8) at Rolling Hills Golf Course in Hudsonville, Mich.

The Bulldog men’s team took 20th place with 561 points in the competition, which was won by meet host Grand Valley State with 46 points. Wayne State was second (50) and also qualified for the NCAA-II National Championships. The men's race was won by WSU’s Nick Allen in a time of 31:29. The two individuals who will advance to the national championships are Brian Taghon from Southern Illinois and Michael Nikkila of Hillsdale.

Senior Joe Every finished 59th (34:03.2) among 136 runners in the 10K men’s event to lead the Bulldogs. Freshman B.J. Meyers was 114th (36:02.3), freshman Barrington Dykes took 123rd (36:34.2), junior Kurt Kramer was 132nd (37:56.4) and freshman Chase Gibson placed 133rd (38:07.2) for Ferris State.

Oct. 25: Bulldogs Tie For 10th Place At 2003 GLIAC Championships

The Ferris State University men’s and women’s cross country programs hosted the 2003 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Cross Country Championships Saturday (Oct. 25) at FSU’s Katke Golf Course in Big Rapids, Mich.

Ferris tied for 10th place in the 33rd annual men's event with 273 points. Grand Valley State won the men's race with 35 points.

Ferris was led by senior Joe Every's 32nd place performance (26:29.7) in the 8K race. Sophomore Joe Swendrowski took 58th place (27:22.2), freshman B.J. Meyers was 64th (27:28.6), freshman Barringoton Dykes placed 109th (28:58.2) and freshman Chase Gibson finished 116th (29:22.2). Junior Kurt Kramer was 120th (30:10.2) in the 126-runner field.

Ferris State will take part in the NCAA Division II Great Lakes Regional Championships Saturday, Nov. 8, in Hudsonville, Mich.

Oct. 10: Ferris Places 15th Overall At Michigan Intercollegiate Championships

The Ferris State men’s cross country team took part in the Michigan Intercollegiate Championships Friday (Oct. 10) at Rolling Hills Golf Course in Hudsonville, Mich.

In the men’s 8K division, Ferris State was 15th among 17 participating schools with 425 points. Michigan won the team title with 20 points while Michigan State placed second with 69 points.

Senior Joe Every led FSU as he placed 75th overall in a time of 27:31. Freshman B.J. Meyers took 83rd place (28:06), freshman Barrington Dykes was 104th (29:05) and freshman Chase Gibson finished 114th (29:55). Junior Kurt Kramer placed 122nd overall (30:39) in the 139-runner field.

The Bulldogs will host the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Championships Saturday, Oct. 25, beginning at 10 a.m. (EDT). The meet will be held at FSU’s Katke Golf Course in Big Rapids, Mich.

Oct. 4: Ferris Takes Part In Loyola Lakefront Invitational

The Ferris State men's cross country team took part in the 31st annual Sean Earl Loyola Lakefront Invitational Saturday (Oct. 4) at Montrose Beach in Chicago, Ill.

Ferris finished 21st in the men's non-NCAA Division I field with a team score of 619. Edinboro (Pa.) claimed the men's team championship with 98 points.

In the men's 8K race, sophomore Joe Swendrowski took 111th place (26:28) among the 514 competitors. Senior Joe Every was 196th (27:15), freshman B.J. Meyers placed 275th (27:55), freshman Barrington Dykes finished 329th (28:38) and junior Kurt Kramer captured 425th place (30:23) for FSU.

Ferris State will return to action Friday, Oct. 10, as the Bulldogs compete in the Michigan Intercollegiate Championships at Allendale, Mich. The meet is slated for a 4 p.m. (EDT) start.

Sept. 26: Ferris Places Sixth In Annual Home Invitational

The Ferris State men's cross country team totaled 148 points en route to placing sixth at the annual Bulldog Invitational Friday (Sept. 26) at FSU's Katke Golf Course in Big Rapids, Mich.

Saginaw Valley State won the team championship with 36 points, Lansing Community College had 74 points in finishing second and Grand Valley State totaled 84 points to place third. Nine teams competed in the men's division.

FSU was led by senior Joe Every's 16th-place (28:03.30) showing on the 8 1/2-kilometer course. Freshman B.J. Meyers was 24th (28:15.80), sophomore Joe Swendrowski took 36th (28:48.90), freshman Barrington Dykes was 56th (29:58.60) and junior Kurt Kramer finished 75th (31:59.80) in the 91-runner race.

Ferris State returns to action Saturday, Oct. 4, at the Loyola Lakefront Invitational in Chicago, Ill. The race is set for a 11 a.m. (EDT) start.

Sept. 19: Ferris Finishes 11th Overall At Michigan State Spartan Open

The Ferris State men's cross country team placed 11th overall in the Michigan State Spartan Open held Friday (Sept. 19) at Forest Akers East Golf Course in East Lansing, Mich.

FSU tallied a team score of 384 among the 12 schools participating in the 8K event. Michigan claimed the men's team title with 35 points, Ohio State was second (42) and Michigan State placed third (101).

Senior Joe Every finished 83rd overall in the 132-competitor field in a time of 27:19.8 to lead FSU. Sophomore Joe Swendrowski placed 90th (27:36.4), freshman B.J. Meyers was 91st (27:37.1), freshman Barrington Dykes took 118th place (29:02.4) and junior Kurt Kramer finished 131st (30:46.6).

Ferris will host the annual Bulldog Invitational Friday, Sept. 26, at FSU's Katke Golf Course in Big Rapids, Mich. The event is slated for a 5 p.m. (EDT) start.

Sept. 5: Bulldog Men Compete At Northwood Invitational

The Ferris State men's cross country squad took part in the Northwood Invitational on Friday (Sept. 5) in Midland, Mich. No team scores were kept in the meet.

FSU was led by freshman B.J. Meyers' 10th-place finish in a time of 26:59.90 on the 8K course. Senior Joe Every took 13th place (27:08.60) and freshman Barrington Dykes was 23rd (28:56.00) in the 45-competitor field. Junior Kurt Kramer placed 30th (30:11.00) for FSU.

Ferris will take part in the Michigan State Spartan Open Friday, Sept. 19, in East Lansing, Mich. The event is slated to begin at 4 p.m. (EDT).

Aug. 29: FSU Men Open 2003 Campaign At Jeff Drenth Invitational

The Ferris State men's and women's cross country squads took part in the non-scoring Central Michigan Jeff Drenth Invitational on Friday in Mount Pleasant, Mich.

The Bulldog men were led by senior Joe Every's 13th-place finish (17:00) on the 5K course. Freshman B.J. Meyers placed 14th (17:48), freshman Barrington Dykes took 15th place (18:34) and junior Kurt Kramer finished 17th (19:23). A total of 17 athletes took part in the meet, which included both CMU and Ferris along with unattached participants.

FSU will return to action Friday, Sept. 5, in the Northwood Invitational at Midland, Mich. The race is slated for a 4 p.m. (EDT) start.

The Bulldogs are coached by Jeff Kavalunas, who's entering his eighth year as head women's coach and his fifth campaign as the head men's coach.
