The Ferris State University men's ice hockey team will begin preparations for its 2004-05 season this Saturday (Oct. 2) as the Bulldogs hold their annual Crimson-Gold Intrasquad Game at FSU’s Ewigleben (pronounced A-VAH-glave-in) Ice Arena in Big Rapids, Mich.

The annual contest will start at 3 p.m. (EDT) and will feature two 20-minute periods with a running clock. A skills competition involving the hockey team members is scheduled to take place between the game's initial two periods.

Admission is free although a $2 donation to the little Kevin Courtney Foundation is greatly appreciated. The foundation was established by Kevin and Julie Courtney in honor of their late son and funds raised will go directly to support those kids involved in youth hockey who are financially challenged. Following the contest, the popular Skate With The Bulldogs will be conducted along with an autograph session involving the Ferris State players and the coaching staff.

Ferris State, under 13th-year head coach Bob Daniels, return 18 letterwinners from last season's 15-20-3 squad. The Bulldogs placed 10th in the Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA) standings with a 10-17-1 league mark.

Ferris will officially drop the puck on its 27th season of varsity competition next weekend, Oct. 8-9, hosting the Colgate Raiders in a non-league series at Big Rapids. A 7:35 p.m. (EDT) opening faceoff is set for next Friday's season opener with a 7:05 p.m. (EDT) start slated for the series' finale on Saturday.

FSU was recently chosen eighth in the 2004-05 CCHA Coaches Poll and tied for ninth in the league's media poll. Tickets for all Bulldog home games this upcoming season are available by contacting the FSU Athletics Ticket Office at (231) 591-2888.
