GREG RALLO ADVANCES IN VOTE FOR HOBEY BAKER AWARD


Ferris State Hockey Senior Among 193 Players To Advance In Next Voting Phase

Senior center-right wing Greg Rallo (Gurnee, Ill.) of the Ferris State University men's ice hockey team is among 193 collegiate hockey players who have advanced to the Preliminary Voting Phase in the 2006 Vote For The Hobey Baker Award as college's hockey top player.

Rallo presently leads the Bulldogs in scoring this season with a career single season-high tying 29 points on a team-high tying 12 goals and a squad-best 17 assists in 26 outings. The assistant captain has registered a plus one efficiency rating to go with six power-play goals, one short-handed lamplighter, and a pair of game-winning tallies. Rallo's nine multi-point games this campaign ranks as a team high as does his 17 power-play points (6-11--17). He has been recognized twice (Nov. 14 & 28) this season as the Central Collegiate Hockey Association's (CCHA) Offensive Player of the Week.

Preliminary Voting will continue through Sunday, March 5, giving fans the opportunity to help determine the 10 finalists for the Hobey Baker Award. Fans may cast one ballot per day for the first-, second- and third-place choices for the Hobey Baker Award. THe fans' tally will be combined with the votes of the 59 Division I head coaches to determine the 10 finalists for the award. To reach the Preliminary Voting ballot, players must have received nominations from at least 25 fans during Vote for Hobey's Nominating Phase.

Final Voting, in which fans can cast one ballot for their top three choices among the finalists, will take place from Friday, March 17, through Monday, March 27. The results of the fan vote will be counted, along with the votes of the Hobey Baker Selection Committee, to determine the recipient of this year's award. The 2006 Hobey Baker Award winner will be announced April 7 in Milwaukee, Wis., the day before the championship game at the NCAA Frozen Four. In 138 career contests, Rallo has presently compiled 98 points on 41 goals and 57 assists while recording a +10 plus/minus rating. He also has 16 power-play goals, one short-handed marker, seven game-winning lamplighters and 25 multiple-point games during his collegiate career.

Former FSU standout Chris Kunitz has advanced the furthest of any Bulldog skater in the Hobey Baker Award voting, finishing among the top three in the 2003 balloting for the prestigious award.

Ferris State, which presently sports a 12-8-6 overall record with a fourth-place tying 7-6-5 CCHA mark, entertains the nationally third-ranked Miami (Ohio) RedHawks this weekend (Jan. 27-28) in a two-game league series at FSU's Ewigleben Ice Arena at Big Rapids, Mich.
