GREG RALLO NAMED FERRIS' CCHA SCHOLAR-ATHLETE OF THE YEAR

Bulldog Senior Recognized For Academic Success

Senior center Greg Rallo (Gurnee, Ill.) of the Ferris State University men's ice hockey team has been named the Bulldogs' 2005-06 Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA) Scholar-Athlete of the Year as announced Tuesday (March 7) by the league office.

Rallo was among 12 outstanding student-athletes to have been designated as their team's 2005-06 Scholar-Athlete of the Year and from this group of nominees, the CCHA Scholar-Athlete of the Year will be selected with the winner being honored at the 2006 CCHA Awards Banquet Thursday, March 16, at the Fox Theatre in Detroit, Mich.

The faculty representative at each CCHA-member school, in consultation with the head coach, selected the institution's Scholar-Athlete of the Year. Each school's Scholar-Athlete of the Year serves as the school's nominee for CCHA Scholar-Athlete of the Year.

Nominees must have a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.25 through the fall term of the selection year to receive their school's Scholar-Athlete of the Year Award. The CCHA Scholar-Athlete of the Year will be selected by the 12 faculty representatives with voting based on a system awarding five points for a first-place vote, three points for a second-place vote and one point for a third-place vote.

The 2006 CCHA Awards Banquet, slated for March 16 in Detroit, Mich., is open to the public and tickets are $15 apiece. The evening commences with a social hour at 7 p.m. (EST), followed by the presentation at 8:15 p.m. (EST). Rallo, who joins junior defenseman Joe Van Culin (Monticello, Minn.) as Ferris State's CCHA Scholar-Athletes of the Year the past two seasons to date, is a marketing major at FSU.

The assistant captain has been the Bulldogs' leading scorer this season with a career single-season best 37 points on 16 goals and 21 assists in 38 contests to date. His season goals and assists totals also represent personal career highs. The two-time CCHA Offensive Player of the Week (Nov. 14 and Nov. 28) honoree has compiled a squad-leading 11 multi-point games and team-high 21 power-play points (8-13--21) this campaign.

In 150 career games, Rallo has produced 106 points with 45 goals and 61 assists to go with a plus seven efficiency rating. He also has amassed 27 career multiple-point games and seven career game-winning goals. The 5-11, 192-pound forward presently ranks tied for 29th place among the school's all-time points leaders and is 26th on the Bulldogs' career goal-scoring leaders list.

Ferris State, which currently sports a 17-13-8 overall record this season, has advanced to the CCHA Playoff's Quarterfinal-Round best-of-three series this weekend (March 10-12) against the nationally-ranked Michigan Wolverines at UM's Yost Ice Arena in Ann Arbor, Mich. Starting time for all games is 7:35 p.m. (EST) and this Friday's (March 10) encounter will be shown live on FSN Detroit.

The Bulldogs are presently ranked 19th nationally in this week's (March 6) U.S. College Hockey Online/College Sports Television's (CSTV) poll.
