Admission is free although a $2 donation to the little Kevin Courtney Foundation is greatly appreciated. The foundation was established by Kevin and Julie Courtney in honor of their late son and funds raised will help offset costs for underpriviledged kids who wish to be involved in youth hockey. Following the contest, the popular “Skate With The Bulldogs” will be held along with an autograph session involving the Ferris State players and the coaching staff. A $2 charge will be assessed for those needing to rent skates for this post-game activity.
Ferris State, under 14th-year head coach Bob Daniels, returns 18 letterwinners from last season’s 13-22-4 squad. The Bulldogs finished tied for 10th place in the final 2004-05 Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA) standings with a 7-17-4 league mark.
Ferris will host the University of Western Ontario next Saturday, Oct. 8, in a 7:05 p.m. (EDT) exhibition contest at the Ewigleben Ice Arena before officially dropping the puck on its 28th season of varsity competition, Oct. 14-15, at the sixth annual Mutual of Omaha Stampede in Omaha, Neb. The tourney, which is hosted by the University of Nebraska at Omaha, will feature the Bulldogs skating against New Hampshire in Friday’s (Oct. 14) opening first-round game while host Nebraska-Omaha takes on Army in the second game. The tournament’s consolation and championship games are set for Saturday, Oct. 15, with start times of 6:05 p.m. and 9:05 p.m. (EDT), respectively.
