FERRIS' VESELY GARNERS CCHA ROOKIE OF THE WEEK ACCOLADES
Freshman's Three-Point Game Draws League Attention
Freshman left wing Eric Vesely (Woodstock, Illinois) of the 2003-04 Ferris State University men's ice hockey team has been named this week's Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA) Rookie of the Week for his efforts in last weekend's (Jan. 2-3) home league series against Alaska Fairbanks.
The 5-11, 181-pound forward received the weekly league honor primarily as a result of producing three points in last Friday's 7-5 triumph over Alaska Fairbanks which extended the Bulldogs' unbeaten streak to eight games at that time. Vesely tallied his first collegiate goal in the contest and added two assists for a personal season-high three-point game performance while posting a +2 efficiency rating.
Vesely's honor represents the first for a Ferris State rookie since 2001-02 as no Bulldog skater received Rookie of the Week laurels a season ago.
Vesley has compiled four points with a goal and three assists in seven contests this season.
Ferris State, which is 9-9-2 overall and 5-8-1 in the CCHA to date, is on the road in league play this week, Jan. 7-8, as the Bulldogs go up against the University of Nebraska-Omaha Mavericks. Opening faceoff for both contests is 8:05 p.m. (EST) at the Qwest Center Omaha in Omaha, Neb.
