FERRIS STATE'S FLAMMINIO NAMED TO CCHA ALL-ROOKIE TEAM

Bulldog Defenseman Receives Honorable Mention Plaudits

Freshman defenseman Giovanni Flamminio (Prince Albert, Saskatchewan) of the 2003-04 Ferris State University men's ice hockey team was one of 12 individuals selected to the Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA) All-Rookie Honorable Mention Team in an announcement made by the league office Monday (March 8).

Flamminio, who was the only FSU skater to be named to either the all-rookie or honorable mention teams this season, ranks second among the Bulldogs' defensemen with seven points on three goals and four assists in 31 contests. His season points total presently is fourth highest in team rookie scoring.

Prior to Ferris, Flamminio spent two seasons (2001-02 and 2002-03) playing for the Kindersley (Saskatchewan) Klippers of the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League (SJHL). He was a 2002-03 All-SJHL DirectWest First-Team pick after placing third among the league's top scoring defensemen with 62 points (17-45--62) in 59 contests.

Defenseman Giovanni Flamminio picked up honorable mention laurels which represents the third straight season in which a Bulldog skater has attained a CCHA All-Rookie Team honor.

Joining Flamminio on the honorable mention CCHA All-Rookie Team were forwards Tommy Goebel of Michigan State, Darin Olver of Northern Michigan, Alaska Fairbanks' Curtis Fraser, Ohio State's Andrew Schembri, Scott Parse of Nebraska-Omaha and Western Michigan's Paul Szczechura. Defensemen chosen were Wes O'Neill of Notre Dame and Bowling Green State's Jonathan Sigalet along with goaltenders David Brown of Notre Dame, Lake Superior State's Jeff Jakaitis and Brandon Crawford-West of Miami (Ohio).

Comprising the six-member league all-rookie squad were Miami (Ohio) forwards Matt Christie and Marty Guerin, forward T.J. Hensick and defenseman Matt Hunwick both from Michigan, and Michigan State defenseman A.J. Thelen along with his teammate in goaltender Dominic Vicari.

Ferris State sophomore defenseman Jeremy Scherlinck earned all-rookie honorable mention accolades a season ago while a pair of juniors, defenseman Matt York and Mike Brown were both CCHA All-Rookie Team selections in the 2001-02 campaign.

Ferris State, which is 15-18-3 overall and finished 10-17-1 in the 2003-04 CCHA regular season standings, starts a best-of-three CCHA Tournament First-Round series this weekend (March 12-14) against the Michigan State Spartans at MSU's Munn Ice Arena in East Lansing, Mich. This Friday's contest commences at 7:05 p.m. (EST) while Saturday's encounter is scheduled for a 7:35 p.m. (EST) opening faceoff due to being televised live on Fox Sports Net Detroit. Sunday's game, if necessary, will revert back to a 7:05 p.m. (EST) starting time.
