NCAA HOCKEY SELECTION SHOW TO AIR AT THE HOLIDAY INN

Bulldogs Hoping To Receive First-Ever Bid To NCAA Tournament

NCAA Hockey The Holiday Inn Hotel and Conference Center in Big Rapids will be the site for fans, alumni and supporters of the nationally-ranked Ferris State University men’s ice hockey team to gather for this Sunday’s (March 23) 2002-03 NCAA Division I Men’s Ice Hockey Championship Tournament Selection Show.

The 30-minute selection show of the 16-team field will be broadcast live on ESPN beginning at 5:30 p.m. (EST). In anticipation of this event, the Holiday Inn along with the Ferris State University Alumni Association and the FSU Blueline Club are sponsoring a “Selection Show” party from 4:30 p.m to 7:30 p.m. (EST).

The event, which costs $5 per person, will feature the ESPN Selection Show on two large screen televisions and several smaller screen televisions. A cash bar will be available and hors d’oeuvres will be served.

All 25 team members of the 2002-03 Bulldog hockey team will be attendance along with the coaching staff, hockey support staff and university administrators. If selected, Ferris State will be making its first-ever NCAA National Championship Tournament appearance.

Claiming its first-ever Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA) Regular-Season title this season with a first-place 22-5-1 league mark, Ferris State’s 29-8-1 overall record is its best ever in the program’s 25-year NCAA Division I history.

The Bulldogs, who earned the number one seed in the 2002-03 CCHA Tournament, have advanced to this Friday’s (March 21) semifinal round contest of the CCHA Super 6 Championships at Joe Louis Arena in Detroit, Mich. FSU will take to the ice for a 4:05 p.m. (EST) opening faceoff versus the lowest remaining seed from Thursday’s (March 20) quarterfinal-round action. That contest will be televised live on Fox Sports Net-Detroit. The champion of this weekend’s CCHA Super 6 Championships receives an automatic bid to the NCAA Championship Tournament.

The four regional sites and dates for the 2003 championships are as follows: Northeast (March 28-29) at the Worcester Centrum Centre in Worcester, Mass., East (March 29-30) at the Dunkin’ Donuts Center in Providence, R.I., Midwest (March 29-30) at Yost Ice Arena in Ann Arbor, Mich., and the West (March 28-29) at Mariucci Arena in Minneapolis, Minn.

The semifinals and championship game of the 2003 NCAA Frozen Four will be held Thursday, April 10, and Saturday, April 12, respectively at the HSBC Arena in Buffalo, N.Y.
