Mike Brown and Chris Kunitz Named CCHA Players Of The Week


Ferris State Goaltender Receives Defensive Honors For Second Straight Week

Sophomore goaltender Mike Brown (Calgary, Alberta) and senior left wing Chris Kunitz (Regina, Saskatchewan) of the 2002-03 Ferris State University men's ice hockey team have been named this week's Central Collegiate Hockey Association's (CCHA) Defensive and Offensive Players of the Week, respectively as announced by the CCHA office. The pair both played integral roles in Ferris State's league-opening series sweep of Bowling Green State this past weekend (Oct. 18-19) at FSU's Ewigleben Ice Arena in Big Rapids, Mich.

Brown, who received the honor a week ago in the Bulldogs' series split against nationally-ranked St. Cloud State, recorded a .967 save percentage in the series as a result of turning aside 58-of-60 Falcon shots on goal. He registered 32 saves in FSU's 10-1 victory in Friday's league opener and then notched 26 stops in the Bulldogs' 5-1 win on Saturday. The 2001-02 CCHA All-Rookie Team honoree was chosen the Perani Cup second star of the game each night.

Mike Brown In five games this season, Brown has compiled a 4-1-0 record with a 1.60 goals against average and a .952 save percentage in just over 299 minutes of action.

Kunitz, an All-CCHA First-Team pick and the league's top goal scorer last season with 25 markers, totaled eight points in the BGSU series with four goals and assists apiece. The All-America and Hobey Baker Memorial Award candidate collected a personal career-high six points on two goals and four assists in last Friday's contest and then tallied the game's first two goals in Saturday's encounter, including the game winner. He concluded the two-game set with a +6 efficiency rating, including a +5 performance in Friday's outing. Kunitz has compiled a team-leading nine points with five goals and four assists in four games to go along with a team best-tying +7 plus/minus efficiency rating to date this season.

Ferris State takes to the road for the first time this season as the Bulldogs tangle with the Notre Dame Fighting Irish this weekend (Oct. 25-26) in a two-game CCHA series at UND's Joyce Center in Notre Dame, Ind. Starting time for both Friday and Saturday's contests is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. (CDT).
