Senior defenseman and team captain Troy Milam is a major reason why Ferris State is the top choice in a pair of recent Fox Sports.com polls.

The nationally-ranked Ferris State University men’s ice hockey team, which currently is first in the Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA) standings has been the top choice in two recent Fox Sports.com polls undertaken by the Detroit Sports Report on Fox Sports Net-Detroit.

Most recently, the Bulldogs’ first-place showing in the CCHA was picked as the “Most Unbelievable Sports Story in the State Right Now” with 37 percent. The other picks were the Michigan State University men’s basketball with a 1-3 Big Ten Conference record (24 percent); the University of Michigan Wolverines men’s basketball team on an 11-game winning streak (19 percent); and Marty Mornhinweg is still the coach of the Detroit Lions (19 percent).

In a January 10th poll, Ferris State led the way in the question of “Who will win the CCHA?” Forty-four percent picked the Bulldogs while 35 percent chose the Ohio State University Buckeyes. The Northern Michigan University Wildcats received 10 percent of the votes, Michigan had eight percent support and Michigan State noted three percent.

Ferris State, which is presently 17-6-1 overall and 12-3-1 in the CCHA under 11th-year head coach Bob Daniels, will travel to Oxford, Ohio, this weekend (Jan. 24-25) for a two-game league series against the Miami (Ohio) University RedHawks. Opening faceoff for both games is 7:35 p.m. (EST) at MU’s Goggin Ice Arena.
